Title: Another Earth?
Post by: F22RaptorDude on December 05, 2011, 06:07:42 PM

By the time we think about going there i'm sure we will have warp drives or whatever, one day it may be possible

nice to know they finally confirmed it as habitable. was annoying that they found this last year without confirmation....

hmm come to find out NASA's been busy finding candidates... this isnt the same planet they found earlier  :)

id like to know what makes those scientists think that the entire galaxy that we live in isnt moving. for all we know we could be going right for a massive black hole and all die. if the galaxy is moving, im pretty sure we wouldnt notice much. but the bad thing is that its impossible to be 100% sure.

The Galaxy is exspanding.  They have ways to know these things.

We are on a collision course with the Andromeda galaxy http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/science-news/4128018/Milky-Way-and-Andromeda-will-collide-sooner-than-expected.html

It's a very long time ago billions of years I believe but its going to happen and as far as our galaxy not moving, they don't believe that our galaxy is traveling 600,000 mph also in the above link

Saw a picture of the new planet like Earth, wow! awesome find it looks beautiful 2.5 times the size of Earth average 72 degrees sounds nice

The universe is expanding.  No evidence that our galaxy (The Milky Way) is though, unless you mean it gobbling up neighboring smaller galaxies, or being gobbled up by the Andromeda galaxy in the not-so-near future.  So "our" galaxy might be acquiring new stars, but it isn't expanding so to speak.

The galaxy is moving, and spinning, and they have a good idea of how fast.

The planet isn't confirmed to be habitable, they just think the temperature is right.

I wish the Andromeda galaxy was a lot closer.  It would be awesome to see the view from the ending of The Empire Strikes Back in the night sky every clear night.

By the time we collide with Andromeda, everyone and everything on this Earth right now would be nothing but recycled atoms. No need to worry about that stuff, not yet anyway. ;)

Don't get me wrong, I love astronomy and the idea of future/outer space things, but to worry about things so far/long away doesn't make sense to me. But it's still cool to think about.

Now, devising an easy space traveling technique or new technology or even setting foot on Mars, that stuff gets me intrigued. Let's start small and work our way out of the solar system first. :aok

Then comes Proxima Centauri and nearby planets, then the whole of the Milky Way, Andromeda, then the universe. :) if only I could live to see the day we set foot on Andromeda.

To think about space and about other planets like ours blows my mind...

Is space endless?

We are too small, somethig must be out there, watching us also:  I've read this story last week about UFOs disrupting CERN experiments; Are we playing with dangerous unknown stuff and need to be stoped by our babysitters?

I remember watching this show, interesting discussion seems true, why are UFOs interested in nuclear missile ? :headscratch:

Read this and tell me how thats possible, theres so much about our past we don't know, technology like this 8000 years ago didnt come from humans http://www.rense.com/general3/8000.htm  research it many more sights and pictures tell about this ancient event.

Even if atmosphere is human friendly, what about gravity?  The planet's supposed to be something like twice Earth diameter.  IE 8 times Earth mass

Muscle Monster Aliens could walk around there, otherwise life maybe only in Water?  If Kepler-22b's radius is really 2.4 times that of Earth,
we could not walk one step there.

We're barely scratching the surface of our technological potential, not just medium or long term but especially short term.  The politicoeconomics are what's stopping us from going to Mars now.  Look at Elon Musk.  One of these humans is enough to show how feasible a short term path to Mars is here and now.  Imagine if there were a hundred Musks going at it.  There are others (Bigelow, Carmack, Greason, etc), but he's probably the best example for the purpose of the conversation.  Rockets and spaceships fit for NASA's needs, at a fraction of established prices.  And he's a believer.

Next you have all the accessory technologies.  Medical, materials, energy, etc.  We have been making progress.  Just not as directly and explicitly as we could've been.

Probably not.. 8 times Earth mass is assuming same density.. But even in most optimistic/favorable difference of density, it's probably no walk in the park for humans.  Would be real interesting to see what native life looked like though.  Maybe they couldnt survive Earth gravity natively either.

8 times Earth mass is assuming same density..

We discussed this today, nobody knows what material the planet is of, it could be just gas that means less density as earth but with a the bigger radius.
I really hope they find out what this planet is made of.

Cool..  Could make for swimming/flying lifeforms.  That'd make for pretty awesome human survey trip.

I wonder what the mass of this planet is.  We can't assume it's identical to Earth.

Maybe not ive pulled two and a half g's and while yes moving is harder is certaintly is not impossible so we would have to be in very good shape but we would could pull it off and we would probably work an hour rest an hour work an hour etc etc.
2.4 times the radius with earth material = more than 8 earth gravity
