So I love Aces High. My Fiance's hate for this game will without doubt support my claim of love for this game. However, there are somethings that seem to discourage me about this game. I love the rooks, and I'll be the first one to say that. They are some great guys. However, I can also look at the rooks, and Aces High, in a objective way. Rooks are not very organized, and its hard to get all of us together to defend bases when we get horded. LORD KNOWS I"VE TRIED! The knits and the bish are very good at exploiting that weakness, which is completely within their right. Salute to them and their ability to fly together. However, this takes away from at least a third of the players in this games fun. It occurred to me this morning something that will help with just about everything in this game that I hear other drivers talk about. At no point in time, did any airbase have an unlimited amount of pilots or planes that could just up from one field at any time. So I have a historic suggestion I would like to have taken into consideration.
My thought is to limit the amount of planes that can up from a field at one time. That drastically cuts down on the amount Horders that can NOE onto an enemy field at one time. allowing all 3 sides to mount somewhat of a defense. This will end the same old furballs that occur between certain fields on certain maps. This opens up the opportunity to create new fights, even if they are side by side, its not 56 rooks, fighting 61 bish/knits over the same air space for hours on ends. It will aid in the "Historical Aspect" of the game in that a field will be limited to the amount of planes it will have available.
You could limit a field to say 15 planes at 1 time. That way the Bish/Knits can still have their hordes in which they so do love, which will keep them happy. While providing somewhat of a chance of defense, in which my beloved rooks do so badly need.
Once again, I'm not bad mouthing any side on their tactic, I'm simply trying to incorporate something into this MMO that will increase the strategic wants of certain players, while providing a certain shakeup for the game. Thanks for your all's time! <S>!

Would be an interesting change however most players will not agree. :salute

First, this complaint about the disorganization and unwillingness to defend could have been written by A Bish or a Knight to. In fact, you will read the very same complaints on every country channel at least once per day - each time time when it's their turn to get whacked. So the intial premise on which all this seems to based is... wrong. ;)
Second, I will just pick that line:
My thought is to limit the amount of planes that can up from a field at one time. That drastically cuts down on the amount Horders that can NOE onto an enemy field at one time. allowing all 3 sides to mount somewhat of a defense.
It actually cut's down only the amount of planes the defender can up, as usually it would be not a big problem for the attacker to come from two or more fields at once. It just takes a bit of coordination, which will inevitably come after a few weeks.
The defender, however, could not chose to do so.

Respectfully I would have to disagree with you about. I have never seen more than 10-15 pilots up to defend a base when someone calls out on country "ALERT A34". 10 is about what youll get. As for the part about about which team could have written this. Im not for sure how to access these statistic but I would to see a graph of maps won, along with who was the winning team. Bish/Knits just about always win, and they run these maps but hordes. People talk about the maps getting old, which I do agree we badly need new maps, but alot of the issue with the maps feeling stale is because Bish/Knits can run these maps in just a couple of hours. Ive seen maps change 3 times in a 24hour period. Force the maps to play out longer and then when you do get a new map it will refreshing longer.
Once again, <S> all. Not trying to start a war thread, just taking a new angle to look at the game.

All countries are the same when its about "all working together". Bish have the Jokers-Vs-Alcoholist confederation, the knits have Jayro's-überhorde, also the rooks have their "work together, the more is better" squads. Im not telling names, but they exactly know who im talking about. The truth remains the same.
Its fairly common, an attack situation will be more popular than a defense one: even a counterattack will face an already up formation of boogeys (not as easy) while an organized attack mostly gonna face with a couple low, slow cons trying to climb up (easy picks, if anyone, you must know). Its in the nature of this game, you cant change it.
Lets say, 15 planes/minute. What would you do if you were a mission planner?
For example, up with DTs, circle NOE over your base til enough friendlies are alowed to up, then team up and strike. It doesnt matter if a mission starts at 10:12 or 10:15 if they are headed towards a quiet area. The whole mission wont killed in one minute, so the reinforcements will be able to up in the same way as they do nowadays. So money for nothing.
How would it effect a defense?
If you see a horde coming, you tell: ALERT XY!! You have like 2 mins from when the first dot pops on the radar... Also, the low, slow uppers are very likely to get chewed up by a 10 pony mission, their uppage would be ruined badly. If youre organizing a counter fightersweep, one thing you want to avoid is the waiting time, right? One minute can stop a horde by killing its goon just in time, you know.
This is why this idea gets a -1 from me.
Yea, and i luv you too.

This is absolutely the same what is being talked on every country. When I was on Knights the last time, about two weeks ago, the whole country channel was in total agreement Knights do suck, are disorganized and haven't won the war in many months.
Once again, <S> all. Not trying to start a war thread, just taking a new angle to look at the game.
For a new angle to look on the game, fly for all 3 countries for extended periods. You might me surprised what you will learn about your disorganized and non-hording home team :)

My thought is to limit the amount of planes that can up from a field at one time.
We had this in AW, it was called 'Zone Limits'. Each base had 20 free slots, when those slots were full then you were placed in a queue if you wanted to take off from that base. So when someone that had a slot was shot down, it freed up a slot and you were then able to take off. The only way you could keep your spot was to successfully land a sortie and then you'd be able to reup again but if you were shot down or crashed and the zone limit was full, you had to wait in line or fly out of another base that wasn't full.
Unfortunately, HiTech many years ago nixed any idea of zone limits in Aces High and I haven't seen anything recently that he's changed his mind. Sadly, I wish he would at least consider revisiting the idea instead of just rejecting it out of hand.

Best thing HiTech ever did to discourage the hoards was put the DAR minumum to 65ft and expand all of the DAR circles to cross each other. The first two weeks players upped to defend in droves because they could see the hoard coming almost from gear up. Acted like a dinner bell for vulchers and pickers because they had a bit of an unfair advantage by knowing the moment missions upped anywhere. While some squads worked at adpating to the new situation, many resorted to the time honored custom of whining about how unfair it was and threatening to hold their collective breath untill the game died or they did. Then the whines here in forum became their usual Norse Epic Saga's about doom and gloom. The end of the game as we know it, and HiTech relented.
I think he was laughing so hard he relented so he could get some work done.
Eventualy posts like this one get started because the OP thinks something about the game is personly unfair to their sensabilities. Then they come here and open their position as a man of the people thinking only of the greater good. In all honesty the only person who 99% of the time thinks of the greater good of the WHOLE community is the owner of the game. He is betting his mortgage and new baby's future on knowing how to balance this mad house and keep customers paying their monthly subscriptions.
In the MA we pay our montly subscription to be able to have unlimited lives and ability to up unlimited rides at any available feild before the hangers are destroyed. I have only witnessed a handful of players since I first started this game who were skilled enough at persuading others to follow them. This seems to be the unspoken this post suggests is lacking in your chess peice country. The hoards you complain about from the other countries are a general expression of that need in players to follow "SOMEONE", somewhere, who can deliver a consistant good time.
Over the years I have noticed the most consistant defeater of base taking hoards has been large cohesive squads. Even one or two of the better know members of these squads upping to defend inspires other players following because they trust good things will happen around those players. All of this unfortunatly takes time for you to develop your presence in this community. Then to accept the community is what it is and focus on finding those moments in each night around the map that you can enjoy or help to make better with your skill.
ACK-ACK is very good at this.
Othere wise you are asking HiTech to control other peoples actions to make you happy. This seems to be the core of 99% of whines in this forum over the years.

ROFL.
Expanded dar circles was the best thing ever happening FOR the horde.

I have to agree with that that statement.
Rather than developing new tactics or skills to replace the smaller hordes or the NOE missions, they were simply replaced by more numbers in the missions instead.

In the end, I don't know why people don't spread out more on the map. 5 v 5 in a sector is about the perfect density for me. But it's usually feast or famine these days. People flock to a croud. If I move to the next base and fly over to an empty enemy base I can fly for 40 minutes and not see any action. Where are all the like minded folks? My Squad has two people in it, and we're almost never on together. So I'm essentially un-affiliated. What do I find when someone finally ups? Oh crap it's a dog fighting squad and they've decided to wing up to kill poor little old me. well that was no fun.

Rather than developing new tactics or skills to replace the smaller hordes or the NOE missions, they were simply replaced by more numbers in the missions instead.
The main advantage: Overlapping dar circles that reached far into enemy territory do very much favor the offensive side, particularly with 65 ft dot coverage.
When the sector has full red darbar, I don't need no frigging dot to see there's a horde ib, nor do I have any trouble to fins them near the base they are smashing. They however do have a mighty big advantage: They are all able to see this lone player trying his luck in a fast plane looking for a goon or at least some bombers going for the hangars. With short dar circles, a single player might have a chance, swooping in and out, dropping low to kill the noe goon then wiggle away from the main raid to get some alt again outside icon range.
With overlapping extended dar, that was almost impossible. The horde could easily track the lone rider.
But it speaks a lot that this went almost unnoticed by the majority with their usual statements by reflex... ;)
-
What an excellent idea.
Not only is capping the number of AC available from a base more realistic, but it spreads out the horde some without preventing anyone from playing.
Different size bases and CVs could also have a different zone limits depending on size. Large bases then become greater assets, as they should be.
Larger missions would eventually rally up or be coordinated to arrive on target at the same time, but I still think this is a far cry from the kind of unlimited hording that goes on now.
+1000 for "Zone Limits"

Bad idea, bases would never be taken and everything would stagnate, what you'd have is furballs everywhere, where vets would flourish and less experienced would be sent to a tower they now could not up from! This would promote more timidness than already exists cause those lucky enough to get in good fights would fly soft for fear of not being able to reup, or they sit in the tower till someone else is shot down, it would be horrible

Didn't have that effect in AW and if a base reached it's zone limit you were free to take off from another base that was nearby.

Hmm... rather than a numbers limit or waiting in a queue, why not an increase in ENY? Localised ENY has been mused over in the past.
Rather than a limit of 20, why not unlimited players can up but with every upper the ENY increases for that base?
-
It's quite a mystery to me. Everyone seems to complain about hordes, but in the MA no one avoids them.
Last night I upped away from the horde and flew to an abandoned enemy base 1 sector away. No one came up or over the engage. I then anounced on 200 several times that I was all alone, and if someone or two folks want to have a fight away from the horde, come to A81. No one came.
So what people want is lost of targets and fast action so they are drawn to action (horde) like Michael Moore to the all you can eat Pizza buffet.
We should start a new moto....
"It can't be a horde without you."
As far as this base taking problem, (vGuys and Jayro Missions, you know who you are), so what? I've found they show up with 30 people, and it still takes them 30 minutes to take a base. Let them have it. Once the base is taken they move on to the next base and you can come back with one airacobra and an M3 and take the base back in 5 minutes. The Base takers aren;t interested in holding, just taking. Go in behind them and just take it back.
Point being...Just ignore the horde and will go away.
It doesn't require a code fix that prevents lots of planes from getting together in one place. It just takes those us not flying there. :salute

There is no "solution" that can be implemented when the rest of your teammates just can't seem to connect growing enemy dar bars in 3 adjacent sectors with an imminent attack.
They arrive only after the enemy cap is established and end up feeding enemy vulch score.

It's absolutely horrible, but can't do nothing but agree with this statement :uhoh
I can't even remember how often there was a multi-sector darbar slowly wandering across the map, and no matter how often I pointed that it, almost nobody was responding.
But when the target base is flat 30 minutes(!) later, there's much ballyhoo about it: "WTF? Where did they come from suddenly?", "alt monkeys", "toplshedders" "hordelings" :lol

Hitech actually responded in the Wishlist about this sort of idea. He stated very clearly that it will not be implemented as it is too easy to circumvent (up from a near base and you can get around it).

Been a Rook since I signed on. :salute the Real Rooks. So I don't know much about the other countries. But the Rooks failing to pork the ords is the major problem there. Pork the Ords stop the Horde. Only a few will regularly (Myself being one) take down ord because most times it may be a oneway mission. Can't be afraid of losing score but many are.
I do notice many in the other countries making it a priority to attack the enemies ability to make war. The new Horde style is to totally take all hangers and guns down so there will be no oposition to capture. The massive attacks have detered defenders from upping just to get vulched on the runway by those seeking easy kills.
Don't be selfish, Take out an Ord bunker, run some supplies, do a strat run. Is this really a WAR Game or a Dogfight Game?

Last night Pandora, a very nice quiet spoken lady with a british accent asked a knight bomber squad, a fighter squad and her own POTW to help her take bases from the rook. We all upped climbed on the way to the base she wanted and pounded it to rubble. No NOE nonsense just picked a fight at each base. The rook each time had the ability to see our DAR bar growing and stop us. Our bombers never got above 12k and just came flat out into the target.
We took 5-6 bases before she logged for the night rearming at each base and climbing at the next base. We finally stalled at A8 because the muppets rescued the rooks from the knights who were willing to fight above NOE and below 15K. She never used the mission planner, just gave us our support roles on range channel, targets, we rearmed and went. Just her years of good relationships with different squads. Because she asked nicely we flattened every target she wanted with no bickering or confusion on our support roles. There were always multiple C47 inbound to insure troops got in the map room.
Me thinks it's not the game which has a problem but, the expectations, perceptions and relationships of some of the players in the game.

As the USMC puts it: Adapt and Overcome.
As a Sergent Chef asked me once: You afraid of dieing or just enjoy talking like a girl?
It's sad that in a game full of men whining about how each other's way of playing the game is making their personal way of playing the game impossible to enjoy. And for every philosophicaly narcasistic reason possible. A single older british woman can calmly ask 24 men to please destroy 6 bases for her. To which they all suddenly know how to work together and capture 6 bases for the nice lady. With no interpersonal conflicts or whining matches during the process and very littel foul language on range. And we get pissed when women treat us like littel boys.
Could any of you imagine your mothers listening to or reading some of your conversations related to this game? Mine having retired from the NSA after 25 years and now in her 80's. Would probably ask me if I enjoyed talking like a girl if I whined about this game in her presence the way many do in this forum. My wife only gives me 3 minutes to "whine" about any game in her presence after 12 years. I followed her suggestion and detuned ch200 this year. Not much to complain about with this game anymore.
Whining is very cathartic and addictive when you can get away with it. After awhile it's easier and a quicker self reward than doing a reality check to see if you need to find a like minded support group or a completely fresh point of view.

I guess maybe I'm just thinking of a different Pandora :pray
or someone with a similar name
or your squaddie just sounds like a bloke
(btw I'm tied down with a top bird and a young son, I don't think they'd be too happy if I met somebody ;) )
I'd argue they would probabley be a lot happier with your lack of social vibrance and fortitude if you did go out and learn to properly socialize with people. To each their own.

:old: Yeah....what he said! :neener:

:headscratch: err yeah OK
Clearly, based on what I've posted in this thread I 'probabely'[sic] have less 'social fortitude' than the guy e-knighting for a girl from an online game by randomly attacking someone after an innocent comment/misunderstanding
I salute your chivalrous vibrance :salute :old:

Analysis like this one makes the big mistake of comparing a game to real life. A game is a voluntary effort by all parties for the purpose of having fun. If all parties are no having fun, there won't be a game after a while because people will choose not to participate.
Careful about treating the game like real life [i.e. Marines, and NSA]. Choosing to crush the 'enemy' with no consideration to the other's competitor's fun, could make you and the game victims of your own success when the game dies. Calling people whiners when they try to convey the idea that sportsmanship and fun are integral to any game seems a bit closed minded.
It's tough sometimes to sort out sore-loser whining from someone with a legitimate complaint about gameplay, but try. Some whining is legit, and will help the game thrive. :salute

As a pattern from observing this forum for a number of years, the whining starts when the learning blush wears off and the whiner makes others responsible for his lack of fun, skill or imagination. This for no better description is a sand box with toys free for every kid who enters to play with. Restrictions are limited allowing them to play in almost any manner they choose within the restrictions. A simple but brillient strategy. Encouraging imagination, free will, and individual initiative. Create your own happiness with your own two hands and imagination so to say.
The most aggressively imaginative kids have the most fun with anything available in the sand box. They were the kids who were happy making toys from twigs and rocks in preschool. They don't need new toys every week or the school yard nanny imposing exotic rules of play on the other kids to keep them from kicking down someone elses sand castles. Whining to have the game changed is like following the money when a politician proposes a new law. Who is the ultimate benifactor of the law or the restrictions it imposes on the majority? That is the true definition of becoming a victim of your own success, once changed the process stomps on everyone including the beneficiary. Who being unhappy again wants another law to address his new unhappiness. Once catered to Whining is it's own reward.
Games like life work best with the least amount of external regulation by tyranny of the minority. At some point you will loose in life and get your feelings hurt the same as in a game. Once you go down the path of regulating the outcome of Wining so everyone gets a trophy and happy feelings. Then only the whiners value the trophy and have the sandbox to themselves. Then the cycle starts up all over again in a new sandbox somewhere else because the whiners follow the fun. You want failure by ones own success? Just start handing out trophys for showing up.
Who wants a trophy for showing up to play? Hold your hands up now and be counted.......
The game moderators nor HTC staff watch the game from an adminstrator's console and choose the winners and loosers each day. It's up to each of us to do that for ourselves. The whines in this forum over the years, 99% have been a request that HTC pick winners and losers by changing the game or other players conduct in the whiners favor. 1% has ever asked HiTech to change the game for the whole community. Follow the money as they say in politics and social engineering.
-
OK Bustr, using your sandbox, say half a dozen kids are using the toys to build roads and racetracks and little towns and they are having fun. Two new kids show up, grab the biggest bulldozers in the box and plow everything under. As soon as one of the other tries to make a new road, the bulldozer roll over it. In real life some of those kids will either leave, or band together to beat the crap out of the two ruining the fun for the others. In the game there is no options. You either leave, or follow the bulldozers. There is no way to curb the bad game play. Well maybe "bad game play" is not the right term for our game, but it amounts to the same thing as one type of game play overwhelms another type of game play.
-
Then HiTech plays god like he always does whether we like the outcome or not.
Then we get back to playing while the highly imaginative kids adpat and overcome the new restriction. Or others whining for more trophy's to be handed out for successful potty runs and other kids ability to drive bulldozers crippled because they are too good at bulldozing or getting others to help them build roads. If you can't compete with them straight up or just don't like them and the way they do buisness, make a law or regulation to cripple them. In this game that's called whining, in the real world thats called social engineering.
Whining is still it's own self serving reward if catered to.
A show of hands guys. How many of you want a trophy for logging into the game every day or taking a potty break.........
-
as long as people feel there is safety in numbers it's always going to happen, period. i guess to many are just worried about dying in a cartoon game or feel they need 30 others around them to feel successful.
-
The problem is the imaginative kids don't get any one to play along any more. Some one comes up with a great play using buffs from a couple of bases coming in at different alts. Fighter cover meets to in-bound buffs to provide covers. GVs are launched to create a diversion, or actually make the run for the capture. Mean while a defensive corp ups to intercept a fighter group thats on its way to provide cover for a buff group, or just as a diversion to draw the cap away from the intended target.
While all of the above would sound interesting, and fun to a lot of people it won't happen. Why? Because it's too much trouble. Why co-ordinate a number of smaller groups to come together to accomplish a mission when you can just grab the biggest bulldozer and get the job done.

:rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl....oh man.... :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl...stop please.............. :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl..........it hurts..... :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl :rofl

Far as hording - I hate it but it is intelligent. As a rook we don't hoard and if we do, rarely. We've done some great missions with our Halloween Nikki Pumpkin raids and the night we had 20-25 110s and tore up and took a bunch of bases quickly.
The one compliant about being in a horde that I have heard is people saying "I wont get my kills." Well guess what - the purpose of the horde is to take a base and your kills are 2ndary. There a tons of kills to be had everyday. Oh no your stats might go lower - who cares that you went from 213 to 256 because you landed 1 kill and not 3.
Only a few will regularly (Myself being one) take down ord because most times it may be a oneway mission...
This is one thing that pisses me off. July or June that is all did was attack runs to pork ord and troops. Actually tired of it and at times I don't really give a hoot what happens. The one thing I will never understand is the person that told me what is the point of porking base? They will just resupply it with 5 guys and have it back up within minutes. If so we take 5 people out of the fight for 5 minutes but it slows the advance of the enemy. Not a hard concept. So I agree with you - porking has benefits and it is not a means to the end but creates an issue that needs to be addressed by the porkies.
mission. Can't be afraid of losing score but many are.
That one drives me up a wall too....woo you took out radar at some base no one gives a hoot about. Congrats. why don't you stay and take the ord down too. But now you might get killed by the ack or some that ups and takes you out. That's part of the game and part of fun. Can I beat the system.
I've changed how I think about the game - I play to enjoy it and do not really care about stats. Or if get my butt handed to me over and over. It's a game. It's fun. Figure out how to counter the big raids as others have suggested. Next thing you know we changing the game to make it feel good for everyone and it turns into little kid Tball where no one strikes out, scores aren’t kept and everyone gets ice cream after the game. This a game – have fun – enjoy it for what it is and if you are in a horde and there is one pour sap upping and everyone is chanting “mine mine mine” then just laugh because the first time I heard that being chanted I couldn’t stop laughing.

Ok, well some of these are true points when talking about life. They just don't apply to every whine about the game. :salute
games need rules to create fun competition. Football without a limit on the number of players on a field would be a useless game that no one would play. Dispite it forcing the sides to be even, it's a tremendously complex game, that requires a variety of skills, and strategy, for a team to win.
In a team game, if numbers are never constrained at all, a horde will always be the "strategy" chosen because it is the most effective to achieve the objective. That's not a lot of imagination or creativity. So it's the opposite of what you want too. :salute

-Killer-T :rock
You can't use number of wins as the measure. The bish have pilots like me so winning comes easy. But it does not mean that they are organized better or anything else. It only means that I am "that" good.
Carp, I sued to be Knight. Never mind.

I have to laugh out loud at this. I played a little on sunday and at a certain field that had support of a CV "that you could run to" I think you were #56 in the 60 plane horde, HAHA
Good luck :aok
