The one where you said you would stay off 200 for a week if I could land 10 kills in a spit, one sortie, no rearms?
Well...
...I did it ;)
And as soon as i figure out how to post the film, you can see for yourself.
P.S.

:O Watched the film. 10 landed kills. All appear legitimate. All in one sortie. No ream.
As a man of my word, I will keep my side of the deal. No ch 200 until Fri Jan 20th. :cry
I would like to make some observations though:
1) All were M16 or flak kills at a the same spawn point. No air cons killed. :huh
2) 7 were the same guy bj112011, 2 viper27, and 1 dodgebat. :huh
3) 3 were bombed, 7 were a few cannon rounds per gv.
4) I have never done this or come close but will try it. :headscratch:
5) The real intent here was air con kills but I did not specify that. I should have.... or at least that the majority were air con kills.
6) I learned that it only takes a few cannon rounds to kill an M16 or flak... I tend to use 30 or 40 for one. Will now use less rounds. :aok
None of the above invalidate the deal, so I'm keeping my end of it. :uhoh
Wtg MK84. I learned something (on how to kill GVs better and to be more clear on future deals to specify air cons).
:salute
PS: Good bye channel 200. I will miss you. See you on Jan 20th. :cry :cry :cry :frown: :frown: :cry

I tried for several hours primarily against aircraft and found this.
the ammo load is very light for 10 aircraft kill, you would need to have perfect aim, which I am having trouble with.
If you take bombs you will likely run out of fuel unless you get extremely lucky in a furball, because no droptank, and also you have to get fairly low to use the bombs making for either a lengthy climb out or putting you at risk from higher opponents.
Against gv's also notice that 2 or 3 times the m16 or flak started to fire on me and i immediately broke away.

Midway staying off 200 or my kills?

looking at the Stats it took me 14 try's before i was able to do it, and that was with pretty optimal conditions imo.

Listen to me singing on 200, on occasion.
Keep bragging rights in the closet.
Deny me the opportunity to learn how to kill GVs better.

Soooo. Does this mean that i can look forward to next friday. You know that glorious time when Midway is "demuzzled"
and returns triumphantly to ch 200 with a 168 hours of locked up <tweets>, rants, banter & general "words of wisdom" to be released with such force the AH world has never seen before.
Grab the popcorn and sit back gents...January 20th is going to be epic.
Does anyone else recall Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto's final words in "Tora Tora Tora": I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.
:salute Midway

m16s and flaks, really? Mostly the same guy, really?
That sucks Midway... <S> for being a good sport. I would've accused him of using a shade to achieve that.
-
LOL.......he gamed the bet and thinks it's a legit accomplishment?
-
You know... As much as I would like Midway to stop with the constant ch200 blathering, this is clearly not in the spirit of the original wager. MK84 knows it. Shame on you MK84.
If I were Midway, I would not honor it until someone completes the challenge as intended.

Was wondering who Banana was. Since coming back, there's a bunch of people in the arenas that I have never heard of, that fly real well. Banana certainly knows what he's doing, so it could be Midway.
In my opinion, pinging a GV and getting the kill on him later on shouldn't count towards the bet, but hey, Midway didn't specify. I would invite him to remain in 200 though. He puts on a good show!

I would not honor that bet. Those kills were not in the spirit in which the bet was made. Sure, you didn't specifiy they needed to be air to air kills, but since there are no lawyers and binding toon bet contracts in Aces High, there was no need to get into the nit and gritty specifics of the bet in the first place. I would redefine the challenge to him, that is, 10 air to air kills in a Spit, which should have been implied by the spirit in which Midway plays the game in the first place. No one is going to think less of Midway for not honoring the way in which those 10 kills were recorded.
Bombing GVs, and strafing GVs in a spit, 7 of which were the same guy makes me Laff.

I made a bet and will keep my end of the bargain although I suppose I proved my point anyways. It is hard to land 10 kills in a Spitfire, air to air, no rearms. The fact that it took so many hours of trying for MK84 to land ten and then only via gv kills, and most of which are the same guy over and over, shows he could not easily land ten air to air kills. Bet he has lots of films trying and dying and eventually took the easiest route he could think of.
:old: flying in solitude can be relaxing and fun too.

I agree it was not cool to get GV kills to collect the Debt, and I actually think more of Midway because he is honoring the agreement even though the win does not seem to be in the spirit of the competetion.

I agree, I think to ANY AH player the "reasonable expectation" was air to air kills.
This makes me think I could pay my rent with bushles of corn as long as the "monetary value" was equal at the time, this is ok, isn't it?
Me thinks mk84 might be an attorny, any loophole no matter how silly will do :huh

In other words, MK84 is cashing in a bet that violated the obvious spirit of the wager itself. 10 GVs? MK84 should be embarrassed to claim that bet...because he knows that GVs were not the intent.

There was no violation of anything "obvious" Midway added the one sortie bit later for example, and I went along with it. But you didnt know that, because you were not there.
As for being embarrassed, I think 10kills of anything in one sortie is quite difficult. Especially in a plane that I very rarely fly. As for GV kills, I simply found a creative solution to the problem.

You found a way around the original intent and spirit of the bet and that makes you silly for accepting the payout. You do look better in the pink skirt though. You should leave the one with the blue pony at home...its less unbecoming than taking the payout

Even then is was quite hard, once again it took 14 tries, and in the film the last 2 kills were without cannon
-
as a tank buster I don't mess with M16's nor any kind of flakk so I can't say much, I also don't fly the spitfire.
gotta also agree when you say it's not easy to land 10 kills on anything. at least for me... only if the guy is upping one lvt and again and again....
the bet had the conditions of getting 10 kills with no rearm, seems like a smart way to win. you did not cheat.
but then again I am Brazillian :noid flame suit on

:O You just made my original point. Landing ten kills in a Spitfire is not easy. Few can do it. That's the reason we made the bet in the first place! Hah! :x
:old: If the Spitfire was so easy to land kills in anyone can land ten, preferably air to air though.
I win  but then again I lost. :cry

Haven't watched the film but for those that did: Did the flak's and m16's shoot back at the spit? If so it's still a feat to get 10 kills, now if he got those kills by being lost in a crowd its not quite that impressive. It's still a technical win, as I have to tend to agree with the Muppets on this one. Nice thread horde btw Muppets :D

They very much did shoot at me. You will also see though in the film I tried to guess when they diverted their attention away, and time my attack. That being said there were a couple of times i had to break off my attacks, and i think i took a a couple of hits.

What makes getting 10 kills in a single sortie in a Spitfire is the ammo load, those that have good gunnery skills will have a better chance in getting those many kills in a single sortie than someone of average or below average gunnery skills.

:O You just made my original point. Landing ten kills in a Spitfire is not easy. Few can do it.
10 kills in a spitfire is only difficult due to limited ammo. Landing 5 w/ no rearm in a spit (spit 8,9,14,16 that is) is cake.
Quit trying to justify flying the most easymode plane in the game. Land 3 air-to-air kils in a p-40c in 1 sortie with no rearm (I did it against a D pony, N1k2-J, and A6M5 in mine, granted I surprised the zeke and flamed him before he could react), then I'll be impressed. Or shoot down a FPH's LA7 with P-39d and I'll be equally impressed.
Funny thing is Midway, as much as you bbble on about getting better, learning, and aspiring to be a good pilot, you'll actually learn a lot faster if you'd get out of the trainer and get into a 35 or 40 eny plane, and go charging in. You're gonna die a lot more, but if you can become dangerous in one of those, you'll find you've gotten good enough to be pure murder in that Spitfire. That is, if you feel like putting a skirt and heels on and getting back into a Spitfire.*
* I have to add, Spit I and Spit V are exceptions here, as the LW goes..... These are the only spitfires that one should not feel shame for flying in LW.

Spitfires are also somewhat fragile and not as fast as runners like LA7 or 190s or Ponies. Bad SA or letting your opponent get a shot on you can end your sortie very quickly. Which is why I like them and intend to get good enough with shooting and SA to land ten at least once a day or two. All the easymode talk and anyone can land kills in a spitfire talk does not apply when you try to land ten with limited ammo, less than the fastest aeroplane, and where a few rounds landed tends to kill you. :)
:old: Top Spitfire pilots are awesome.

I agree with midway that a spit is not exactly easy mode.
-
I agree with midway that a spit is not exactly easy mode.
What late Spits have going for them is that while they are not the absolute best at much of anything, they do more things very very well than just about any other plane.. they're the best combination of capabilities in the game. There's a reason 99% of the vets recommend them to 2 weekers who ask "what plane is good to learn in?"
No, they're not the most uber in every single fight.... but they're the easiest in the most of them.
-
there is no such thing as one easy mode airplane. that's something the squirrel's put in all your minds and you absorbed it like culture :noid
-
I agree with midway that a spit is not exactly easy mode.
It is a relatively easy mode plane because of one of its greatest characteristics, it's easy to fly and will allow someone that is average and even below average to be competive in the MA enviroment against others.
ack-ack
-
I think a better way of phrasing it would be:
The spitfires overall flight performance is a good match for a new player who is unaccustomed to flying in AH.
-
Spitfires are ridiculously easy mode. Nuff said.
Against an average spit pilot i can take one small mistake and be instantly dead. In a spit whatever tactic youre following you simply cant lose.
The only /relative/ weaknesses are the:
-pretty average speed, short WEP. Acceleration and climb is top notch tho, also the spit16 is fairly fast.
-poor response to aileron control inputs over 380mph. Also improved on the spit14/16
-relatively weak structure, but heck dont pull more than 7-8Gs.

1) if he can do it in a 109 g6, he can do it in a spit in his sleep
2) you couldn't do either if you tried, so don't talk.

LAND 10 KILLS IN A STORCH, POST FILM.

Here i got something to confess:
i cant and will never ever land ten in a spitfire. Heck ill never ever land two in a spitfire.
I try not to pick and very rarely vulch. Also im flying an eny30 ride near the deck, without constant 10 squaddies to help me. My ride cant outturn cheit and cant run from a spit9.
I dont have anything to prove.
I effin dont care what your DAM Flying Possible Husband is doing, as long as he gives me a long, fun, even dogfight, i dont care if i win or lose, whatever he is flying. I get what i want, im happy.
Stay away from me with your BS.

Geez, I thought 10 M16's and Wirble's was pretty impressive, considering they're dedicated anti aircraft

Not being mean, but 10 kills in a spitfire? and Midway rolling his eyes at debrody as if its getting kills in a spit 9 is something worth considering...

Enough of the Spitfire bashing, especially from the 109 crowd, in particular the k4 guys :)
It's all classic cartoon fighter pilot talk, taken right from the way the real guys talked. If the other guys bird is better then yours, then getting a kill makes you that much better of a pilot
A good stick in a good bird will beat an average stick in a good bird, etc etc.
All the guys claiming the Spit is easy mode, are guys who know what they're doing and in a Spit they'd probably clobber just about anyone they run into. Problem is they clobber just about anyone they run into anyway in their birds of choice.
Since the very good sticks are a minority, bashing folks for flying Spits is silly. It's a good bird to learn in. If folks stick around long enough, they'll probably challenge themselves to take on a bird that's less forgiving. But who cares if they fly Spits. At least Spits tend to stick around and fight :aok

If you bagged some Whirbles then I'll give you credit. I hate those things almost as much as that damn Brewster.

You found a way around the original intent and spirit of the bet and that makes you silly for accepting the payout. You do look better in the pink skirt though. You should leave the one with the blue pony at home...its less unbecoming than taking the payout

I mean me wearing a pink skirt...because I mean what guy wears a pink skirt? I totally get the joke, and it's PINK...totally shows more feminity than a skirt alone. BRILLIANT!!!
And then BAZAAM!!! I have a uhh..blue pony at home, not sure if thats a skirt too, or an actual pony, but hilarious grownup material right there! :aok
And to top it all off...wait for it...a PLUS ONE!!!!!
With Zingers like that, who cares about content, or any worthwhile material to present argument, just go to the assumptive close, and then Bring it home with ponies and pink skirts...I was done before I started!!

An intersting thing I thought of...Is I bet most people that are commenting have not actually seen the film...since you have to download it as it is not posted on youtube. That thought occured to me when someone made fun of me killing trucks
I still do not understand the hate, Midway even agreed, and a :salute to him. I hope the film proves (if you actually watch it) that it would be extremely difficult to get 10 kills/no rearms period, which is exactly what it shows, and is exactly what Midway was suggesting. 14 attempts until I got it, and I had to get creative.
I was most concerned about fuel, if I had a greater range I would have had a much better ability to plan my attacks.
Ammo was second for me, I knew that if I could knock out 3 GV's with 3 bombs, then I would only need 7 aircraft down, this was my original plan actually. And 7 is a whole lot easier than 10 by guns alone. 10 gun kills only allows for 24 cannon rounds per kill, and 2.50's is not a whole lot of backup. (although those made up for my last 2 kills)
An opportunity existed...you may complain that it was against GV's but think of it this way, I am essentially HO'ing a stationary target that has equal if not superior armament, and has superior edit:armor. I actually believe this to be much more dangerous than most aircraft, but it helped solve the ammo issue, and it was quicker then hunting aircraft, which solved the fuel issue. But then there were enemy fighters to contend with, while trying to pay super close attention to the wirble or M16, to guess where his attention/guns were pointed. Then you have set up an attack properly, come in from the top so since the sides of these GV's have a tleast some armor, and we cant waste ammo.
...There's alot that goes into it. So hate away, thats fine, but make something more constructive, then "I wear pink skirts"

My memory fades with age, but I thought I recalled a thread some years ago where someone got 10 air kills with a Spit on a challenge. Well, I went looking and found the thread where Moot did it on his second sortie.

The film is not available, but I remember seeing the film. I believe Moot is still around, maybe he or someone else has the film. I for one thought it was quite amazing, especially since I mainly fly a Spit.

Every kill a spit can score on a wirbly is a proxy. You ping him once, disable the turret while hes shootin on another aircraft then he towers out realizing he has no business anymore.
This happened?

But did he do it naked?

The truck comment was downplaying the killing of GVs. It , like most of what I post, was in jest. I will note not to engage you again as you obviously don't get it nor can you take it.

The spirit of the wager was air-to-air. You found a weak way to win the wager and choose not to admit. Take your medicine like a man and you won't get called a skirt.....and you won't have to come up with all this drivel to hide your embarrassment.

:O So moot was a FPH back then, huh? I remember fighting him once, winning, and then he said on ch 200 " God, I hate Spits!", if it's the same moot. To go out and do it on a second try and get more than ten air to air kills I think is very impressive. Awesome even. That's my goal, to have the SA and shooting skills to be that good. :salute moot, wherever you are.

Okay, so it's not a Spit, but I went even more noobish (http://www.mediafire.com/?w5ecc4qhlcacn7e). No doubt the Luftwaffe guys would have gotten twice that many, but I tried my best.
Oh, and don't mind Glasses. He was such a foul-mouthed complainer that we wound up booting him from the squad shortly after this film. Good riddance.

Geez, I thought 10 M16's and Wirble's was pretty impressive, considering they're dedicated anti aircraft
I didn't watch the film, but did you actually kill the wirbles? Or did you just hit them and get the kill from either a .ef capture proxy or someone finishing them off? Not to mention seven of which was on the same noob. How is any of that "pretty impressive"? And what does any of that have to do with a Spitfire? You can do that in any plane with bullets. Find a noob in a tank, hit him a few times and get a proxy/credit. How was your epic accomplishment exclusive to the spitfire?

LOL. I was expecting vulches, but instead he killed m16's and he cashed in on turreted in wirbles that would bail out to get a new working turret.
I know this because I was by him when he got these kills.

Why are you attacking me so much on this?
I never said anything about skill. I did say that in order to win our bet I had to get creative. I did say what problems I had with trying to win, and I did say how I planned to accomplish it.
I figured I'd get some flak for the post, I didnt think it would be from you, sheesh

Mutter.. the other day I took out a spit9.. didn't really think to film... ended up a few miles from a knit base, with maybe one other bish... no vulches, not really "takeoff pattern" camping either, as they were able to get some manuvering speed (plus base/town ack close.) :joystick:
Anyway, friendly died eventually and I decided it was time to try and saunter home (a spit can't really run) with about 5 20mms and 400 .303's and two peeved knits coming after me. :airplane:
I got one of the knits with some help about 1/2 way home... the ummm "help" would have been better going after the jug instead of the lala i was cicrling with (bingo ammo)... he finishied off the lala giving me 8 kills (all vs planes, all in air)... the jug got me... :bhead
In any case, 10 is doable in any of the spits except maybe the mk1 and it does help if you choose your shots carefully. :aok
I did film the attempt to run home, showing the 8th kill... I just wasn't expecting to have such a tally. See how easy the spit is?
On a side note, yesterday 1/14 was a good day, I was getting 4-5-6 kills per sortie in the lala, helping me to achieve my short-term goal of getting a 2:1 k/s) :ahand

:huh Spit8, that is. Spit9, you wouldn't be bragging. I'm still learning the Spit8, she's more awkward turning slow, especially with fuel heavy wings. :headscratch: :salute
Anyways I never said ten landed is not doable. Very good pilots, like Bruv :rock, Levi :rock, and Kazaa :rock can do it often. I just said it is not easy.
Shane, did you land ten and post the film? No. :)

Yarbles always told me the 8 was a larger and heavier airframe then the 9.

Very hard for me to fight Shane's LA7 in a Spit8. The Spit9, he's no problem at all, none, except on rare occasions, that is. :P Shane
-
Yarbles always told me the 8 was a larger and heavier airframe then the 9.
The 8 has wing loaded tanks, the 9 doesn't so the roll is heavier until the weight is unloaded. Airframes are virtually identical. 8 has a larger motor if memory serves from a Guppy/Corky thread...he's the resident Spit knowledge base. The Seafire has the heaviest spit airframe but has no wing loaded fuel tanks which is why it turns spectacularly if you keep your speed up...Spit V frame with CV rated undercarriage.
The 9 turns better...period.
-

You are turning the 8 too much...the 8 below 10K should be flown a lot like Shane's LA7 is below 10K...my bet is that you are flying the 8 against Shane like you would fly your 9 against my 9.....Shane's making you turn yourself into a knot....fly that 8 vertically against Shane and don't worry about the angles until you get him slower....make him miss on passes by just enough so you keep your speed up....when you get him below 200 indicated, then start getting more aggressive with you turns and angles....if you let him keep his speed up, he'll eat you alive in the 8 because you get slower quicker than he does...my problem with Shane is I never know its Shane until its too late, lol
-
Calling a Spit8 an insufficient turner compared to the Spit9 is like calling a Camaro a slow car because you are used to driving a Lamborghini.
-
8 is a bit heavier due to the retractable tail wheel and the two leading edge fuel tanks. It also has the larger rudder. In terms of turning, I think it would depend on what alt the fight was at, as the Spit IX engine we have is the Merlin 61 geared for more high altitude flying and the VIII has the Merlin 66 which was best suited for medium to low alt flying. Later IXs also had this same engine. The XVI has the American made Packard Merlin 266 which is the same as the Rolls Royce made Merlin 66.
Personally I'd take the VIII over the IX because of the better engine suited to the AH altitudes where there fights. In the end I'd say the winner of a VIII vs IX fight would be determined by the pilot, not the plane.

Maybe....but the camaro is a slow car compared to the Lamborghini....whether your used to it or not. I never said it was insufficient...unless its flying against the Wmaker super-redesigned, vastly improved, HGH injected Finnish Brewster Buffalo.

I haven't been able to get the 8 to perform that way on the deck yet...it's probably just flight time I guess...I don't have much time in the 8. The 8 is certainly faster on the deck...I haven't caught one in a 9 yet either, lol

Land 5 air kills in a c47 and I will change my handle to Midssqueak...post the film and they have to be from the MA and not squaddies on other side "giving" the kills.

Take the 8 up at furball lake some time and play with all the 16s. They think they can turn with you right until they drop a wing and you kill em :)

It was the most wtg's and <S>'s I've ever gotten after landing kills.

The rules are you have to get gv's to auger and all your planes to disco. Of course it's only 5 instead of 10 so you should be able to use creativity like the first bet. Be ready for all the whines and advise about how you done something wrong or not worthy to be considered a bet pleaser. :rofl I think you get my drift......
