The fact that it has reflections.  The live version of AH does not do reflections.

So our version is dead and doesn't show a reflection.  That would explain it sucking the life out me for the last 10 years.

The three options look like he's covering Main Arena staged or multi flight missions and Custom Arena missions. Populating the custom arena to play by yourself. Or a custom arena with joinable missions running all day long. So AI planes in the custom arenas will be part of the next release? That would be logical since we already have them as a function of Offline missions. This might also be offline instant action rather than drones in the circuit. One can only wish.

Thats a pretty nice reflection. The F6f could use a rear view mirror. I keep backing over my trash cans parking mine.... :)

Now that we have been delightfuly surprised and warned of the new GPU demanding eyecandy. How many of you will sign up with the "Cut HiTech and Pyro some Slack Club" when those reflections eat our FPS during regular game play?

Climber,

We are circling a reflective plastic canopy that has never existed in Aces High before now. Go offline and pull up a fighter on the runway. Turn on all the graphics bells and whistles if you have them shut off to improve your FPS online. F3 and look at the canopy from different directions. No shiney glossy sheens and mirror like object reflections.

Wonder what it will be like to up into a 40 plane hoard base take with everything turned on after the next release?

Stutter, stutter, HuH, stutter, HuH, dern where'd that come from, stutter, freeze, stutter, freeze, tower...HuH what??

I'm not sure what you mean.
What I mean was, obviously the Stuka doesn't show a near mirror image like the B29 does. Does this have something to do with the specularity mapping, some other mapping, or is it hardcoded into the model?

It is done in realtime based on the actual surroundings of the reflective surface.

I understand how the reflections are rendered (conceptually), basically what I'm asking is how the game determines how reflective any given surface is supposed to be.

Btw I don't believe most understand that the mission system has nothing to do with the current online mission system. That does not change.

The staged mission system is the current offline mission system that we wrote for TOD.

With the next release people will be able to upload mission in the same manner as terrains.
These missions can then be played in the custom host arenas, or the special events arenas. (all arenas are capable but CM privileges are needed to load one.) The AI fills the mission spots that players do not .

So it would be possible to have a missions where most bombers are flown by AI in a scenario.

Since AI is now available we also have added a reconnect ability.
If you disco, an AI will fly your plane for a period of time until you return or the time runs out.

Also we do not have any plans on implementing mirrors. Do to how environment mapping works. It would not create the image from the correct view point that mirrors need to work. The other reason is we try our best to not provide any advantage to faster computers.

How about if we just want to join the AI plane and watch what they do and how they fight? Maybe even man the guns (in a bomber).

So it would be possible to have a missions where most bombers are flown by AI in a scenario.

Planes only I assume? It would prove more of an issue for GV's, since the distances of travel are far smaller, range of engagment is far longer (upwards of 3 times as long as it is for aircraft), and theres a lot more crap that AI would have to dodge unless you want your 68ton Tiger II to end up on its back.

Also, will AI keep you from smashing into a mountian, or will it essentially just be level auto-pilot?

Also we do not have any plans on implementing mirrors. Do to how environment mapping works. It would not create the image from the correct view point that mirrors need to work. The other reason is we try our best to not provide any advantage to faster computers.

Wow, you really are a bit grumpy lately.

Although I probably should have expanded that question.

Will it fly around or above each individual mountian or terrain irregularity, and then return to your origional altitude and heading? will it leave you hanging at 23,000ft and flying south, when you wanted to be at 10,000ft flying NNW? Will it circle around the point you were at when you discoed?

Could/Would you consider it for the MA?  Anti/pro hordeing/fight feature on large maps, possibley... if nothing else, a novelty admin tool or something to add flavor to the MAs on aniversaries like Pearl Harbor, Doolittle's Raid, Battle of Britain, etc...

Or if I were to rephrase, is this just "Phase 1" of online AI/combatants and where it may eventualy go?

That's along my thought, in its current form it probabley couldn't be used for much in the MAs, certainly not regularly without severely impacting things.  But what if for Halloween HTCs wanted to launch a legion of jackolanterns, flyign in formation.  They can take Christmas off (for once) and have the Santa flight scripted to run every hour and also fly over every single airfield on the map?  Battle of Britain Day, settup each country getting its HQ/factories raided by Stukas, 110s, Ju88s (eventualy the He111 :pray ) and lots of 109s every 2 or 3 hours.

The BoB thing you could do in the AvA, but if you wanted to do something nostalgic/easy/casual/baby-seal-clubbing-AIs-as-a-team/"mainstream"-publicity-for-the-AvA-&-scenario-teams.  C'mon, everyone in AH loves/dreams of stumbling upon that low and slow enemy Stuka raid one day.

In the case of massed-bombers in a mission, where many/much of the bombers are AI, will the AI aircraft drop ord simultaneous with actual pilot?
(I'm thinking of carpet-bombing simulations, and thinking ahead a bit to understand if/how ord-drop may or may not be syncronized)

So if our squad wanted to setup a Staged Mission in a custom arena so we could run a particular scenario, we'd have to get a CM to upload it?  Unlike the arena settings which we can upload our selves?

I have a sneaking suspision this will happen, you have CM prives and it takes a CM to make it happen. The only place I dont see it is the mains, unless Hitech and company deciede to treat us to something special, like at Xmas etc.

Yes, Bustr is right.  Anyone who bought a computer in the last year or upgraded will think they can run everything maxed out, and then complain about how terrible the coad is.  What they don't know that I have discovered, is that I can keep my graphics and eye candy limited while in game, film my flight and turn the eye candy on later before I enter filmviewer.

I get the best of both worlds.  :aok

And even though I was pointed to this thread to read about the possibility of AI entering the Custom Arenas, the reflection of the #2 engine was the first thing that caught my eye.  The new glass reflections are even more exciting.  I am expecting this to also include reflective surfaces on the planes which already have mirrors in place?????

Nice work folks!! See even FiFi was curious to take a peek.

It means a lot of things. But we also need to temper the gameplay of scripted AI flights so that people can actually engage them.  Nothing causes slide shows better than a swarm of buffs on older PC's.

Of course, it could give you an excuse to show the supreme being (wifie) that your PC is outdated and needs  we hardware. :D

I confess to wishing for AI pilots to practice against that are good enough to shoot me down just about every time as long as they stay within the capabilities of each aircraft... because I know the real top pilots get bored of shooting me down over and over.  :frown:

Looking forward to seeing what these AI pilots are made of especially in varying scenarios/missions.   :)
