What should I do when Police Pull me over???
She saw a (nydailynews) article about a woman being body slammed twice for opening her door
during a traffic stop.. A woman, 5'4" tall, registered nurse, yanked out of her seat, and beat
up for nothing, by two Thug Cops.. "Policemen", who celebrated their brutality on this woman,
with a triumphant sporting "Fistbump"...! This incident was captured on private surveillance camera!
So she reads links in the article, that show recent stories about cops beating women for no reason..
Kicking them in the face.. Even beating people to death for nothing.. Unarmed and shot to death, Oops huh???
She says, "They Protect Us?, Well who protects us from them?"
My Answer: They cannot be trusted.. When flashed by the police, call 911, put on your E flashers,
drive slowly to a well lighted and populated area.. Memorize Badge# and Names.. We are investing in
a hidden onboard vid system, to record these possible events..
Sadly, another American institution has fallen into disgrace..

Open the window just enough to hand over your papers and keep the doors locked.
-
Ummm, pull over.
Put hazards on.
Lock doors.
Keep hands on wheel so officer can see them.
Do not reach for anything such as license, registration, etc (known as "forward motion" and considered to be enough probable cause to search the vehicle without a warrant in my state, anyhow) until the officer asks for it.
If the officer asks if you know why you were stopped, admit to nothing.
Above all, stay the &*#% in the vehicle.
-

This.
Know your rights when an officer asks if tey can look in your car or asks if they can do anything really. They really are asking you can simply say NO.
-
not that the cops in that incident were totally within their authority with their actions but, the supposed "victim" was plain stupid. she was beligerent and confrontational, cursed at the cops and got out of her car, not to mention she was breaking a local ordinance by talking on the phone while driving. she should have just stayed in her car and did what the officers asked...she might have gotten off with a warning.
if she had the intelligence to use a hands free device the incident would never have happened.

You mean if she would have obeyed the law this might not have ever happened? No, no way, we all know that they would have singled her out and beat her up anyway, because that is what they do.

Idiot. :old:

I would tell your wife that 173 law enforcement officers were killed in the line of duty last year. In 2010 there were 53,469 officers that were assaulted while on duty. Cops have to deal with idiots all of the time, some of whom want to assault or kill them, so on occasion you might encounter a cop who isn't as polite or cordial as you think he/she should be.
Screaming and verbally berating a law enforcement officer that is simply doing their job, like pulling over a woman for violating the city of Los Angeles' ban on cellphone use while driving, will do no good. The officer did not enact the law you violated, your government representative did.
Know your rights. But I find that 'Yes sir/ma'am, No sir/ma'am' goes a long way. Be respectful. Don't blab on the cellphone while the officer risks their life standing in traffic waiting for you to respond to them. Don't be an bellybutton because YOU got caught breaking the law.
The fact that someone gets their news from NYDailyNews says a lot about how they might have a hostile view of law enforcement.

Well, if that Jackanapes can't maintain an even strain in that situation, he doesn't need to be carrying a badge and gun..
End of Story!
This is the reaction of an egotistical wife beater.. Pretty common among police..

I saw pieces of the footage on yahoo. I am pretty sure the woman aggravated the situation. Probably a lot of caffeine consumed on both sides (officers and woman).

Just curious, where did you find this information, or is it based on your in-depth knowledge of police officers?

What I, personally, would like to see, are the parts of the video that were not included in the news media broadcast.
Specifically the parts immediately before they tossed her to the ground so can I see what kind of behavior she was exhibiting.
I will reserve any judgement until then.
Carry on...

This.

This is right. It's worked for me in court after they did it anyway and forgot to lie about me giving consent in their report.
Have a look at this officer, who is now a felon over this but is still sewing to get his cop job back. The incident was caught on camera.

Have a look at this jailer checking to make sure this guy actually needs a wheelchair if you want to be disgusted.

I never cooperate but I am friendly and otherwise courteous. Never argue, never verbally back them into a corner. Cops are trained to never back down in any way and escalating is generally a bad idea.
-
As an ex-cop, I'll tell you flat out- you never see the whole story, 90% of people who get involved in 'police brutality' were the instigators, and in retrospect of those situations NOBODY did the right thing. We're all human.
Most people curse cops for not being around when they see someone else doing something illegal without getting caught, then curse them more when they're the ones who get caught doing the same thing. It's a thankless, high stress job. and noone who's not done it has any idea what it's really like.

Mine wanted to grow up to be like me, big tough soldier, now he is dead.. KIA 2004..
He had some early difficulties, but my council kept him in, when he was planning on
shipping out, before 9/11 and the "War".. Well, he got his stripes, now he's gone..
For nothing, absolutely nothing! Now I bear responsibility for that, for the rest of my life..

I'm going to interject a few things here and very likely going to ignore the rest of it. I've been in too many cop bashing threads to have any tolerance to the narrow minded folks who generalize their own bias on everyone involved in the profession. As if they had a chance to even meet the vast majority of the hundreds of thousands of LEOS in this country.
The nice thing about being a retired LEO is that I no longer am required to suffer fools gladly.
In my career I have found that most folks talk themselves into a ticket. Rather than being polite or even just plain courteous They take the opportunity to verbally unload on the Officer / Deputy / Trooper that had the GALL to pull them over. Rather than act like a normal human being interacting with another they instead get abusive, arrogant, demanding and even physically confrontational in their tantrum. I used the word tantrum on purpose as that is what it is in a lot of cases. Perhaps it is a reaction based on fear because being stopped is a very unusual event in their lives but it is out of the bounds of normal human interaction and totally out of bounds in dealing with others in a society. Perhaps it's because they heard a lot of stories from folks who have their own axe to rind and love to vent their bias and tend to believe the exaggerations instead of making up their own mind based on experience.
I have long past lost count of the times I walked up to a car or even a doorway on a call to be greeted by "what the f*** do YOU want?" or "who the h**l do you think you are stopping me?" or "What the f*** is YOUR problem?" before I can even say hi or hello.
Cops, Deputies, Troopers are human beings. How long do you think you would like to put up with that kind of thing every working day? How would you like to be treated like that by strangers who have never met you before. How about when they threaten to follow you home, find out where you live then come rape or beat up your wife. Yep I have heard that one more than once. One of the most memorable times I heard it was right after I peeled the SOB off of his wife while he was thumping her. She then jumped me because he started to cry saying I hurt him while I was cuffing him.
I'm not going to absolve the Officers in the video. I'm also not going to condemn them either until I see the entire situation, assuming it was filmed from the beginning or not just edited or at least see other witness observations. If they were wrong they deserve to be punished and lose their jobs. If she struck one of them or tried to assault them she just escalated a traffic situation to a felony. Just like you would not figure a LEO would have the right to just punch you for no reason, you also have no right to try to punch them because you got stopped.
A few words of advice. If stopped in your vehicle stay calm. Try to act like the other person is just that, another person, not a uniform. Move slowly, provide the required documents when asked. I don't care if you do not want to admit anything or not, If I had not had a solid violation anyhow I would not have bothered stopping you. Just answer the questions required like confirming the address and name on the license. A lot of times folks don't change the address and women don't get a new license after marriage / divorce.
In short, treat the other person like you would like to be treated. If you can't do that then don't be surprised when they do not let you off with a warning. I seriously doubt you would tolerate your kid talking to you in the manner I posted above and then decide to let them go. Why should you expect the LEO to let you off when you go off like that?

I would consider this some solid advice, folks.
Considering the numerous times that a LEO pulls over or has to interact with strangers, keeping the situation civil and not doing anything to make the LEO stressed will make for a much more pleasant interaction for everyone.
If you want to contest the situation, the side of the road is not the place to do it.

Quick question, would offering them a snack or something to that effect be a bad or good idea? Even if it wasn't meant as a bribe, just as a kind gesture?

Have gotten out of a small speeding ticket by offering the officer an Oreo. It went something like this:
"sir, can you tell me why you where speeding?"
"yeah, sorry. I was reaching for an Oreo." *holds up bag* "want one?"
He had to look away to hide a smile, then he let me off with a warning.

WOW, all I was asking was the source of the quote. You stated it was an old saying, and I have never heard of it, so I was a bit curious. Happens to us retired folks with a little to much time on their hands.
As for you loosing your son, any of us that has lived any length of time have lost a loved one. It really doesn't matter how they passed, but feelings are the same for each of us. I guess you are blaming the police for it, I am not sure, but in the end it will do nothing but bring more grief to your life. That is my opinion, and I don't expect you to accept it.

Read a very good book years ago. Think the title was "How to avoid a speeding ticket" written by a former State Trooper.
Like others have said you need to put the Officer at ease for he has never met you and will think the worse until he finds out otherwise.
Pull over calmly and safely if possible. Leave both hands on the wheel there will be plenty of time to get your Id later while he watches. Nothing is worse than fumbling around while he's walking up. Don't lie that will just piss him off.
I was traveling on a local highway at night and went by a hidden trooper. He hit his lights as I passed and I knew it was me he was after. I pulled over and waited for him. Got off with a warning for being honest and friendly.
You may run into an irate cop but taking the ticket and driving away is better than spending time at thier place.

The suggestion was made that I don't live in "Reality", so I describe my reality..
The hardest thing I have ever had to do is deal with that.. Yes I have a grip on Reality..
I said cops have a tendency to beat women.. Some took offense to that, OK..
It would offend me too.. And the suggestion was made about lack of reality..
Here is some reality..
First, My sister dated a county deputy for about 5yrs or so.. He beat her occasionally..
Also, Back in the 80's, we lived in a nice Cul de Sac neighborhood, suburbs of the big city..
One of our neighbors was the owner of a well known strip club in the Area.. We became
friends, BBQ's Birthdays Holidays kinda thing.. Wifey and She became very close friends..
We were not part of the whole strip club thing tho.. The only time we went there was
invitations for birthdays.. But she used to unload on my wife about all the dirty stuff that
goes on behind the stage and office.. Off duty police were worked the door, and providing
"escort" for the girls, on high dollar "Special Showings".. In short, the cops were pimping the girls..
So yeah, we have seen it ourselves, hot chicks with the cut lips and black eyes, and a cop boyfriend!
Seen em Smackin em around for kicks, drag them by their hair.. Like showin off..
And laugh about it, cuz they're cops.. So yeah, I do know something about it..
Do you think I LIKE THAT???
I HATE IT, wish it wasn't so..

You said "This is the reaction of an egotistical wife beater.. Pretty common among police..". So you know one police officer that may have assaulted his girlfriend. Since this relationship went on for five years, and they were never married, I wonder why it happened more than once. I assume that you did not witnesses any of the assaults, you were only told about it. One in a hundred thousand does not mean most or that it is common.
As for the sex clubs, that is interesting, since most police agencies do not allow their officers to work side jobs at sexually oriented businesses. If this was going on, did do anything about it? Did you report these law breaking activities to your Sheriff's Department, if it was Sheriff's Deputies involved, did you report it to the State Police? Is this a case that you know about it, but are unwilling to do anything about it? Funny how you can come here and speak of all these rouge cops, yet you were unwilling to do anything about it. If it is was that bad, a simple call to the media would have done something. Even in the 80's they would have jumped through hoops on a story involving pimping cops.
Even by your own statement, " I HATE IT, wish it wasn't so.." it appears you did not feel it was important enough to make one phone call. I guess it is easier to just come onto an open forum and gripe about it.
My Opinion, and again I don't expect you to agree or accept it.

Well, it is True that I didn't do anything about it, other than call the police when things got out of control in the street..
Police came, didn't do anything, things just went on.. Eventually they moved away, and we let the association die..
Later there was a RICO investigation in the papers involving the police.. I assumed it had something to do with that..
But we were involved with our own life, and didn't really pay much attention..

Well said Rob...a police officer physically attacked responds physically up to, and no further than, the point the threat is neutralized. A police officer verbally attacked without any direct threat of physical harm must not respond physically.
Those are the hallmarks of a true professional police officer and anyone outside of those lines doesn't deserve a badge. ...and yes, I speak with experience.

Fred
here's a news from a police department close to where i live. this is a small city and they only caught 6 of them. but it was well known that 1/2 the police department was getting freebies at this club.

not that the cops in that incident were totally within their authority with their actions but, the supposed "victim" was plain stupid. she was beligerent and confrontational, cursed at the cops and got out of her car, not to mention she was breaking a local ordinance by talking on the phone while driving. she should have just stayed in her car and did what the officers asked...she might have gotten off with a warning.
if she had the intelligence to use a hands free device the incident would never have happened.

moral of the story: don't funk with five-0 and you won't end up with scabs on your face. Obey the law, be respectful and cooperative and then get the hell out of there.

pull over as much as ya can
roll down le window
turn of engine (anticipate a 30 min stop) so u won't be upset by how long it takes.
don't spit in cops face
stay in the car
don't reach for anything until they ok ya
keep hands visible
don't lie!
also if a cop sees a ring on your finger and asks "if u are married to your mother", don't respond with "no, but I'm married to yours". sure fire way to get slammed

Not sure what you are trying to show me. OK, some Police Officers were caught having sex with some strippers, and evidently a couple were doing it on duty. Long way from pimping them out while working at a strip club.
It looks like two of the officers involved resigned before they were terminated. And the others received disciplinary action. I did not read where any laws were broken, just violations of Departmental Policy. Appears to me the Chief took care of the problem.
I don't think I ever said Police Officers were never capable of misconduct. What I was stating earlier is, if you know about it and it is of a concern, then why not do something about it.
Again not sure what you are trying to point out to me.

he would take her and others to the police benevolent building to have sex with other officers. money may not have been involved but that is still pimping.

The article stated one officer was screwing her at the Union Hall, and another officer ended up screwing her while off duty. The article doesn't clarify whether it was at the Union Hall or another location. The article stated only two officers were accused of having sex with her. Sounds like the other officers just knew about it and didn't report it.
Just because one officer introduced her to another officer and call it pimping is a bit of a stretch. If that is the case, then any man who introduces a woman to another man, and they eventually have sex is a "pimp". Being a "Pimp" pretty much requires some money to be involved.
Seems to me the two officers were thinking with the wrong head. Anyway, the problem was solved, so I really don't see the big story here.

I'll tell ya truth about myself..
"If the truth Hurts, it is only because of what you know about yourself!"
I forgot who said it, but it is gospel..
sorry for your loss man. it was NOT your fault, and even as his father, you do not have to bear that burden. just remember him. he's looking down on ya 24/7 now.

I have found shutting the engine off, makes them at ease....I started driving at 22, I am 42 now I have been pulled over many many times in that 20 years, only once did I run into a salamander, even the ones that had to arrest me were good folks, just doing there job.......then again I never freaked out or went off on any of them......
the best one was me driving my challenger.....
officer-"took me long enough to catch up with you"
me- "thats cuz I slowed down"
officer- "license and registration"
me-"I got some good and some bad news......bad news is...... my license is suspended.........good news is....I got bail money..."
Texas state trooper clocked me at 101 in Ft Worth.....let me go no ticket.......his first words to me were...."Boy....I seen some stupid watermelon in my life....but you done take the cake....." he was actually a very cool guy.
another good one...I stopped the challenger in front of speed limit sign..do my normal and shut the engine off right away......the cops says to me...as you can see....(pointing to the sign) the speed limit is 35 not 75........ :rofl
treat them with respect they will most likely give it right back.

I stopped an older lady in a small car with no seatbelt, she was courteous and apologetic and accepted she was wrong. I let her go without a ticket and saw the same car 2 days later, she had her seatbelt on and my discretion was justified. I stopped a guy in a hopped up Nissan the same day, he had no seatbelt on because he had fitted a racing harness that hurt to wear. He also suggested that I might bbetter earn my wages, (that he was paying for!) and go out and find some "real criminals".
He went away with a fine and a producer.
UK police rarely face the same threats as their US counterparts, nevertheless the threat exists, I have deep scarring on my arm as testament, I dont understand why people would refuse a legitimate search of their vehicle, whatever you believe, police officers really dont get off on digging around in your waste fast food wrappers looking for contraband. If you are belligerant and obstructive, whatever your sex, then the percieved threat level increases exponentially and you are more likely to get rorked out onto the floor and restrained.

I make no apologies for driving without a seatbelt. I simply explain the fine would be the price I pay for freedom. I've never been fined for it.

there was a well publisized pagani zonda crash here recently, some millionaire dickhead driving at 120+ in a 30. came off the road, hit a steel fence.
his passenger had a couple of bruises, the driver enjoyed his freedom not to wear a belt for the 20mins he lay dying in excruciating agony in the ditch where he landed about 20' from the car, after passing through the door and ripping it off its hinges.

Generally I wear mine. If I hear a click it or ticket commercial on the radio it comes off. The state has no right in my mind to make seatbelts compulsory. I will wear mine without being told, it's saved my life once. I refuse to wear one out of fear of a ticket and I am one of those folks who will break a law just because the law is unjust.

Rear ended and rolled by a full size Kenworth hauling Amish furniture on interstate 80. My only injury was a sore shoulder from my trusty safety belt. I found the trucker on the side of the road crying hysterically after the crash. She was just repeating "I killed him" over and over. It was kinda strange because my brain was so generous with the designer drugs it was dumping into my bloodstream that I felt at least 300% more alive than I usually do.
Even funnier that the boss told me to wreck that truck about a week earlier so I could have a new one. The thing that baffled everyone the most, including the trucker & state trooper was how the topper stayed on while the frame was bent in a few places and I broke every axle but one.
I made the morning news by making so many people late to work. It was a busy highway. The Kenworth sustained a punctured radiator but no grill damage.

been in 1 major accident....wasn't speeding...well was doing 70.......in a 65.....very bad, rolled a ford aerostar van about 4 times......nothing happened to me, except I hurt my ring finger on my left hand......my wife on the other hand....broke both 8th ribs......and had half her face ripped off, plus multiple cuts and bruises....she had over 250 stitches on the outside of her face, more on the inside......it was very bad, she should have died, her throat was also cut deep within mm's of her juggler vain, plus along the bottom of her jaw line was ripped open......a day I live with every moment....we crashed because we were fighting.

I cant say much about carrying around past guilt,(or getting over it) what I can say, it is like a mold that grows and gets worse as time goes by....yet I know everything happens for a reason, we may not know the reason, or even begin to fathom why things happen.....one thing my life has taught me...... is everything has a purpose.

I used to play hockey on a team in Fort Worth where half the players were doctors and the other half were cops or firemen. One guy used to boast all the time in the locker room about using his wand on the beat, beating up people. On the ice he played the same way, knocking the piss out of people in a non-checking league. He was a bully, plain and simple. After a while I asked another cop on the team how they can stand working with this guy. "He won't last long" was the response.
I've got three more stories from personal experience like this.
While there are scores of benevolent officers that truly serve the community, the profession also attracts a certain type of person who earns the monikers hurled at police.

When I was in college working at the butcher shop part time I had a coworker enrolled in the criminal justice program. He wanted to be a prison guard because he liked to be in charge and boss people around. Cop was his 2nd career choice.
Strangely when our smallest coworker found him passed out in the bathroom at a party, the tiny kid emptied a bottle of nair on his head and he never retaliated.

Thats the same excuse given for violation of motorcycle helmet laws. As if you need to tell cognitive people that wearing a motorcycle helmet is a sensible thing to do.
As far as I am concerned seatbelt and helmet laws should be repealed and the results left to Darwin to sort out. However it was my job and as already pointed out, the democratically elected government instigated the law, it was merely my job to enforce it.
Also, if you are injured exercising your freedom not to wear a helmet or seatbelt, emergency services should be allowed to exercise their own freedom not to treat fools who have been instrumental in their own injuries :aok

I also have been pulled over a few times in my 20 years of driving. 75 in a 55 at 5 a.m. I pull over shut off the truck and have my papers out the window when the officer pulls up.
Officer: "You know why I pulled you over?"
Me: I might have been speeding
officer: oh yea! you were speeding, can you tell me why you are in such a hurry?
Me:I am late for work and it is just down the road
Officer: how is your driving record?
Me: up until now perfect
Officer <chuckles> I will be back after I check your record...
he let me off...they usually do except for the time my car smelled a lil funny but that is for another night.
basically if you remain calm and courteous the pigs....errr officers will too :devil

so what do you do when you see a sign that says "Govt Warning: Dont Jump Off This Cliff!" :D

Just reading the 1st few threads, I been a victim of a police officer falsifying my statements on a police report. I fought that report the best I could but ultimately I did not win. I felt robbed of my dignity and a official beared false witness. That is the 1st I felt contempt for any officer.
That being said; I believe in all that Law Enforcement is the most honest part of government. I can also name 20 other encounters with officers that were very professional and just.
I don't believe painting them with a broad brush is responsible. I respect officers despite that one incident I listed above.

A&E doctors call motorcyclists POD's. Standing for Potential Organ Donors, I have been riding since 1994 and have had 2 major accidents. 1 career ending. Both would have been fatal, or worse ended with me pvs had i not been wearing a lid.

The few times I have been pulled over.....
I do so in a place, and far enough over so the Officer is in a safe possition when approaching my vehicle. He is doing his job. I do not want to see him hit by some idiot driving by starting and the pretty blinking lights.

Could you please define what a legitimate search is?
"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated"
My definition hinges on probable cause. Unreasonable to me means, well... without reason. Because you are bored is not a reason. If you have probable cause, you will not be asking for permission.
Many times I have been posed the question "Do you mind if we take a look around in your car?" many times I have responded "Officer I don't consent to any searches. Am I free to go?"
On every occasion, the answer has been "Yes"

There is nothing wrong with my seatbelt logic. I refuse to do comply with anything simply because the gov't says to.
so you're fine with not wearing your seatbelt during a click it or ticket campaign......even if you end up as a vegetable for the rest of your life in so doing?
here's why i'm such an avid believer in seatbelts.
about 8 or so years ago, i jumped in my 89gt. it was drizzling. bear in mind, back then, i wore my seatbelt only if i felt like it. anyway, i fired her up, let her warm up for a few seconds, back out of my parking space, and start to pull out of the shops driveway. as the front wheels roll over the apron of the drive, something told me to stop.(i still think to this day that was my grandmother looking over my shoulder) i did, and i backed into the driveway again, and put my seatbelt on, then headed out.
3 minutes and 2 miles later, a saturn crossed the road, and smacks me head on. i almost dodged her, but i couldn't make it.(guess since i couldn't dodge a car, i can't dodge a ball). i was doing around 30 to 40mph, and from what the lady said, so was she. thankfully, although she was taken away in an ambulance, she wasn't hurt too badly. her airbag saved her from serious injury. she had no seatbelt on, and still managed to smack the windshield. virtually the only injury i suffered was a slight bruise where the seatbelt grabbed me. to this day, i truly believe that i'd have been seriously FUBAR'd had i not put on my seatbelt that day.
i don't care what other people choose to do. i don't take a motor vehicle off of my parking lot, or out of my driveway without a seatbelt now. and my car doesn't move till passengers are buckled in. if they want to exercise their right to not buckle up in my car, then they can also exercise their right to walk.
the second cause of me believing in seatbelts is the time i landed on the roof in a mitsubishi galant. that's another story though.
if you're making a choice to wear your seatbelt, then keep on wearing it. don't pick that battle. you seem like a pretty cool guy, and it'd suck to read on here that you've been FUBAR'd doing that little protest.
-
IDK, personally, I was fine untill the second time they slammed her to the ground, and on the fence untill the fist bump.
Cops get a lot of crap from people, almost all of it undeserved. If one of them loses their cool once in a while, I'm inclined to either look away, or hope they get put on desk work for a while, depending on how bad they lose it.
I mean look at it this way; say the woman spits in his face. If she were the 5th person to do so inside of 2hrs, its perfectly understandable why he would lose it. Would it justify the cops actions? Not even slightly. But it would mean we shouldn't freak out, claim the system is corrupt or disgraced, and fire him on the spot.
Also, consider, had the driver been 6'1 and black, nobody would have said a word.
-
If you have probable cause, you will not be asking for permission.
I have been stopped twice and told one officer no he could not search my vehicle, the other officer i told no problem search my vehicle. Both times they escalated the situation. I can tell you my life was a risk both times, from badge heavy salamanders looking for a fight. Serve and protect ya right. Telling them ya search my vehicle didn't help at all. They were looking for a fight. If I hadn't had training I would not be alive. They don't tell you place your hands on the steering wheel so we can watch for furtive movements. Your fluffied if you scratch your nose. I was told to place my hands on the steering wheel. Then an officer told me to undo my seatbelt. That is called a furtive movement ( he was reaching for a holstered gun so I thought circular reasoning bs after they forcibly removed me from my vehicle. I had asked why I was being detained. " what do you think" was the answer. I asked again why am I being detained. "get out of the vehicle or we will remove you".
Why did you move your hand, ah because the other officer told me to undo my seatbelt. So busy looking for furtive movement they aren't even listening to their buddy.
I was nice gave all the paperwork they asked for told them why I was where I was at and what I was doing, and gave them information so they could check it out. Still didn't do any good.
Any officer that asks to search a vehicle should not have a gun and badge. ITs just that simple. They have already escalated a situation by asking, and just looking for a fight.
If they have probable cause they will give a lawful order.
No officer has the right to beat anyone at any time for mouthing off.
Last time I check being an officer is voluntary and they get a pay check. Don't tell me how dangerous it is. That is a risk they get paid for, If they don't think so, do something else. It doesn't mater how many jerks they deal with again they are paid professionals, It is never an excuse to treat me in an unlawful manner. If they take out the logical fallacies in the decision making tree, most officers can't function.
So me the line of evidence of why you detained me searched my vehicle and then forcibly removed me. It can't be done without local fallacies all the way. What was the misunderstanding??????
Shame on any officer for using coercive aggression. Asking for permission when they know most individuals think they are being giving an order is wrong. They have no right to ask if it isn't a lawful order, but they do anyway.
Cops get a lot of crap from people, almost all of it undeserved. If one of them loses their cool once in a while, I'm inclined to either look away, or hope they get put on desk work for a while, depending on how bad they lose it.
This is just a logical fallacy, and terrible sloppy thinking. :bolt:

Yes he should be fired on the spot. You won't look the other way when it is your wife's or kids face slammed into the pavement.
So what you saying is ya its ok to beat the crap out of your wife if she mouths off a couple times.
The cops would take you to jail if your wife mouthed off to you and you beat her up. Cops should he held to same standard.
-
The prevalence of dash cams and the wide availability of handheld recording devices to members of the public is already doing a great deal to identify and punish those officers of the law who are a disgrace to their badges (and evidently there are a lot of them)
Although there is a pattern of police officers being very lightly punished or even literally getting away with murder in certain places, we have to hope that accountability is going to increase as time goes on, especially with the internet making it harder to sweep evidence of bad behaviour under the rug

Cops should he held to same standard.
well said :aok
I absolutely agree with this, although the pay should be higher for a LEO........
and much less for a "senate seat holder" .........
-
This is just a logical fallacy, and terrible sloppy thinking. :bolt:
No, its called understanding. I have very low patience for the idiots out there that go mouthing off, saying "stupid pigs". I honestly don't think abusing a police officer should be legal, they're in danger, you damn well owe them some respect.
Cops are as human as we are, and that fancy badge doesn't mean they have a higher tolerance for abuse than anyone else. Nor should we expect them to have a higher tolerance for abuse. If 5 different people spit on you for just doing your job, I'm fairly certian you'd blow up too.
Yes he should be fired on the spot. You won't look the other way when it is your wife's or kids face slammed into the pavement.
Well, its a good thing I'm not attracted to people of such low intellegence. And honestly, if my kid ever spits on a cop, he's gonna wish I'd give him back to the cops.
So what you saying is ya its ok to beat the crap out of your wife if she mouths off a couple times.

BIG difference between mouthing off to a husband, and mouthing off to a uniformed police officer. Don't try and confuse the issue.
Let me just say this; you can expect perfection from the police the instant you yourself achieve perfection. Untill then, you're just being ignorant and oversimplifying things.
-
If you mouth off to a Cop you're just stupid.
-
Cops are as human as we are, and that fancy badge doesn't mean they have a higher tolerance for abuse than anyone else. Nor should we expect them to have a higher tolerance for abuse.
Actually, we should.
Police officers are held to higher standards than the rest of us as befits the weighty responsibility they carry.
If someone verbally abused me because they didn't like the company I worked for, the law doesn't allow me to beat the crap out of them because I got hurt feelings. This goes double for cops, who are supposed to uphold the law, not be above it.
By the very nature of their jobs, police are forced into contact with all kinds of a-holes...drunks, habitual criminals, stupid kids, druggies, whatever...they aren't told in training that if any of these people gives them any lip they are allowed to beat the crap out of them  They are expected to rise above it and act professionally, only using force when necessary.
Yes, you are stupid if you mouth off to the police. In my personal experience, I have always tried to be nice to them, and I have been lucky that they have always been nice to me instead of f**king me over. I have also seen stupid people get treated harshly for minor offences, just because they tried to act smart or tough with the cop instead of co-operating. That's all fair enough.
But equally, you are stupid if you think that the police should be allowed to beat down on someone for ANY REASON other than when defending themselves, their fellow officers or members of the public.

I have approached it both ways in multiple encounters:
a) Trying to argue a point on the side of the road
b) Acted politely while still acting within my rights as a citizen
It doesn't take much of an imagination to figure out which option choice went smoother and faster.

Here is dashcam video of a Lauren's County Deputy in Georgia. The code that he stated was 1078 - 1018. Here in Georgia that's, Need assistance, Quickly.
Warning, very intense audio. At 3:20 he is choking on blood.

Truly shocking video. Equally as shocking is the.comments such as "this video made me so happy". I cannot express how much I would like the oxygen theif that wrote that crap, to really need police assistance sometime. I hope they dont make it in time.

Higher standards, yes. No public drinking, keep language reasonably clean, be respectfully represent the institution.
Should we expect to be able to say what we want to their faces and get away with little to no consequence because they are police officers? No, not under any circumstances.
Again, I firmly believe that harrasing or insulting a uniformed police officer should be a punishable offense.
And the majority of the time, they do show restraint. Much more than many of the people criticizing them would be able to show, I bet.
But the point is that they're still human. If, at the point a normal citizen would have gotten into a fight, they're a bit rougher than normal.... well, can you really blame them?
Yeah, theres some bad cops. Theres some bad accountants, theres some bad waiters, theres some bad students. But because some cops act without due provocation, we shouldn't automatically assume all of them are. If it were possible, that type of thinking should also carry a fine.

Or maybe, you know, theres just not any D-bags in your police force? Untill proven otherwise, they deserve the benefit of the doubt.
But equally, you are stupid if you think that the police should be allowed to beat down on someone for ANY REASON other than when defending themselves, their fellow officers or members of the public.
Beat down? Yes, I would agree with you there. But like I said, if that woman had been the 5th person to spit on the cop since lunch, I'd have had a hard time feeling sorry for the woman. At least untill the fist bump, at which point I'd be neutral at most.

When I stopped and searched people or vehicles I had to give the reason for the search, my name and collar number, the station to which I was attached, and a copy of the search record.
Legitimate reason could be knowledge of pre-cons, time of day and area ( such as 3am in a high crime area), committing a moving traffic offence, visible signs of furtiveness or bloodshot eyes etc.
If I get stopped and searched at 3am in a high crime area I would have no issues at all in consenting. Refusing a search seems to me that you simply are showing you can exercise your rights. Incidentally, if I stopped anybody under the conditions I mentioned above, I would have the right under UK law to effect a search despite refusal.

feel really bad for that officer as I feel that he should have shot way before the other guy got back to his truck. but for every officer than dies there's many innocent civilians that die because of an officer's mistake.
there's no no way to explain an officer's death or an innocent civilians death either.

I was just curious as to how it worked in the UK.
I do not think that time of day, prior convictions, or location are examples of probable cause here, but I could be mistaken. I know each state has it's own little differences, also.

the last couple times i was stopped...usually late night on the way home from my friends store in philly.....i'd be asked where i was coming from, and where i was going. my general answer was "the place i just left", and "to my destination". that actually got a chuckle out of a couple somerdale officers....most didn't like it though. none ever pushed me for more than that though. i did make certain to say that politely too.

Regarding helmets and seat belts:
Repeal the laws. Hey Govt. Get off our backs!
Give me Liberty or give me Death!
Enjoy our Freedoms!~
AND...
To my insurance company:
Please add policy disclaimers, that for all injuries suffered while driving without a seat belt, or riding without a helmet, benefits are DENIED.
My two cents.
-
and (serious question) how would you deal with emergency services? they shouldnt have to deal with nasty trauma cases caused by beltless drivers and passengers. but they cant really leave anyone thrown from a vehicle to die on the verge ...

Interesting except some cases. Take school buses.... no seatbelts.

How utterly gormless, helmet laws are not infringing your civil liberties. The problem is that some members of the population have to be told that wearing safety equipment is perhaps a sensible notion. :bhead
Give me liberty or give me death???? Why should anyone have to scrape your brains of the road with a spatula and then go home for dinner. At the very least it should be considered an act of wanton selfishness not to wear one

If I remember correctly, this Deputy just had someone trying to file an assault case against him. I think that the Sheriff had some words with the Deputy about the case. A few days later is when this happened. The deputy had the stress of possibly being charged with some type of assault which therefore made the deputy over think about the situation at hand. If i remember correctly, that is what caused the Deputy to double take on everything going on.

Unfortunately, its true. Otherwise we wouldn't have to put warnings such as "caution, contents hot" on the lids to our coffee. I didn't order iced coffee, room-temperature coffee isn't a typical beverage in any culture so far as I know, and the semi-insulated cup feels really warm even bordering on hot, so therefore I can assume that the coffee itself is infact hot.

When a cop asks you "Sir are you carrying any explosives, drugs, concealed weapons or dead bodies" The proper response is suppose to laugh at. Secondly don't tell the officer "no sir, except for the two dead ones in the trunk.
He chuckled then asked to see my trunk, which had nothing but a spare tire, he then told me "usually people laugh at the topic I know are not guilty, those who are serious and answer No usually are guilty" but I have never had someone so quickly throw that back at me before.
/turns out my blinker light was going out and dimmed some what, he let me go without a citation or warning just asked I get it checked out
//There is an old saying, if you can make a cop laugh some what he's more liable to let you off the hook, I am still waiting to get pulled over since I have an Mp3 player in my car that has the COPS theme, so I can blast it while rolling down the windows to throw my hands out the window
///still waiting :\

On this point, I agree. A good start would be to rid ourselves of the lawyers responsible for the current situation.
