Sounds like Sandy is heading right towards Mid-Atlantic and DE/NJ.
With a cold front coming down, it will form a Nor'easter.
Now prognosticators are saying could be bigger and badder than the "Perfect Storm" of 91.
"If it hits around Delaware, it could produce several inches of snow". Meaning?
They are guessing as to amount, if any.
If it hits around Maine, less Snow in Mid-Atlantic. More of a Rain event.
They changed probability from 60-70% of hit in this area.
Batton down the hatches, matey's. Be safe!
The Billion dollars in damage potential comes from the "experts".

Why is DE in for a chance of snow before Halloween AGAIN
-
It's gonna be my first hurricane...providing its course takes it to the Hampton Rds region.... :rock

Already gearing up at work for this one.....doesnt look good, NOAA (as of right now) has it slamming NJ.
I do alot of saltwater fishing out of NJ, and have many friends that are charter captains.....I cut and pasted this from one of the guys that really watches the weather for the captains off NJ.
The 11AM National Hurricane Center update on Sandy has officially placed the track of the storm as making a direct hit on NJ! Sandy rapidly intensified last night with winds topping 110 mph and a central pressure of 956 mb. At one point this storm was a weak Category 3, a major hurricane. The NHC lists Sandy as being a Tropical Storm with a landfall Tuesday Morning. This is a LARGE storm. It will likely change from a tropical system to an extratropical storm. This might actually be worse than getting hit by a hurricane or tropical storm. Extratropical storms will spread out their wind fields over a larger area. So while, the strength that this storm hits NJ with is not definitive, expect a very strong storm to hit the coast. This will include sustained winds over 75 mph with higher gusts, heavy rains, inland, flash and coastal flooding, storm surge, and beach erosion. For the most part we can rule out snow, however some parts may see some snow on the tail end of this storm. Low temperatures are forecast in the mid to upper 30's after this storm moves out. Expect widespread power outages as well.
The track and strength of this storm will likely change over the next few days, however, without a doubt, NJ will be in the path of this dangerous storm. Now is the time to start making any preparations necessary. At best we can expect a typical Nor'Easter that will bring wind, rain, flooding and beach erosion. At worst, this could be a massive, dangerous storm that could leave more destruction than Hurricane Irene caused!
All further updates will take place in this thread. I am expecting an Official Briefing Package from the Meteorologist in Charge at the NWS PHI/Mount Holly within the next few hours. I will update as often as possible. Expect the media outlets to pick this up full swing today, which means the general public will begin to panic and rush around to make preparations.

Save the butterscotch krimpets!!!!!!!!!
Seriuosly, saave them! I was in a frenzy last night, I found a Tastykake display at our local Walmart. This is no small thing for me, they just don't have Tastykake up here. It is brutal. Tore the display up but only came away with creme filled coffee kake cupcakes. They had the bastard son of the true krimpet, the jelly filled. Not a chance, I only want a butterscotch one now.
Ooops. I digress. Stock on on food and water folks. We got Irene last year and it cut some folks off for weeks. And that was a tropical storm in August. Best to you folks down there. Could give us last year, had 22" of snow on October 30, then almost nothing the rest of the season.

I was hired last year by a major insurance company for a claims adjuster position and had been there for all of a month when Hurricane Irene hit the southern coast of CT. A month later came Storm Alfred, which seemed to take down every tree in the state and left me and most of my coworkers without power for two weeks. We had people wearing the same few clothes the whole time, and others living in shelters. Everyone was their tail off every day. Weekends didn't exist. We had mountains of claims to deal with, and it got very tricky trying to find rental cars for people. Body shops were tied up for weeks, and some for months. Overtime was unlimited until January.
It was definitely an interesting time to break into the industry, and something I'm proud to have worked through. I hope this storm doesn't affect the States, but if it does, we'll be there :aok

Who knows, if the track hits where they think it will, we'll be handling the same neighborhoods :lol

Gonna be a fun week here in NYC...
As long as the power doesn't go out, I'll be happy.

Now it's 90% chance of a direct hit on NJ.
Are you ready for "Frankenstorm"
Media saying "In the annals of recorded Meterological data,
no storm recorded has acted like this one".
Looks like it will turn right into Delaware Bay, then up Delaware River.
Right between Camden & Philly.
Here's a link for the Tracker.

Yeah saw all the "spaghetti tracks" that showed a scatter from North Carolina to New England yesterday morning all changed by the 6 o'clock news to almost all of them heading right to here. I'm thinking--that WAS a nice beach replenishment they did last year. Oh well. :frown:
Hopefully it'll veer off like the last end of the world storm did last September. Unfortunately that one veered into southern New England and caused all kinds of havoc.
I'd rather the rain than the wind if it has to happen. Flooding sucks but I live on a hill so not so much for me. The wind is the killer. Been there and done that with Isabel years ago that took out the power in the whole region for days. Lost a lot of stuff to that one not the least of which was a pair of beautiful maple trees. With the leaves still on them they just got torn apart. That storm was the worst sustained wind I've ever seen this far inland. Scary stuff.
Latest track as I'm watching the weather just now has it coming right into Delaware Bay early Tuesday morning. Great.

My house is 15' above sea level a few miles from the Ocean in NJ. :uhoh
Got my RV filled with Gas and Propane. (80 gallons gas @ $3.75 each) If power goes out I will have all the comforts of home. :D
The last hurricane was hyped just as much as this one and we had some wind and rain but no damage.
Hopefully the weatherman will live up to his poor record of predicting weather. :aok
-
After the kangaroo court in italy last week the weathermen better make it look really bad. :D
-
Damn cone turned west, more potential flooding here. Was hoping for direct hit on Jersey shore, clean it up abit maybe undig Jimmy Hoffa. :O NE winds, means stronger more potential wind damage. Less potential storm surge I could be wrong though for the Chesapeake not Deleware bay. Anyways stay safe Delmarva, and Joisey. :pray

My fishing bud sent me this...newest update ......... sorry for the CAPS i think he cut and pasted it from the site.
The track has been brought slightly farther south now into the Delmarva Peninsula. This does not change anything for the area. They have upgraded the intensity of the storm at this point. Models have also upgraded, showing central pressures of 934mb . That about sums it up !! A 934mb storm would be unprecedented in this area. The New England Hurricane of 1938 also known as the Long Island Express had a pressure of 938mb. Of course, each storm is unique and no single storm is ever like another one in history.
6pm 10/26 NOAA NWS briefing
http://www.erh.noaa.gov/er/phi/briefing/packages/current_briefing.pdf
PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MOUNT HOLLY NJ 631 PM EDT FRI OCT 26 2012
...POTENTIAL HISTORIC STORM FOR THE AREA...
TROPICAL CYCLONE SANDY IS EXPECTED TO MOVE NORTHWARD AND THEN TAKE A TURN BACK TO THE NORTHWEST, MAKING LANDFALL ALONG THE MID ATLANTIC COAST. IT APPEARS THIS OCCURS SOMEWHERE BETWEEN THE DELMARVA PENINSULA AND WESTERN LONG ISLAND.
SANDY IS EXPECTED TO INTENSIFY AS IT INTERACTS WITH AN UPPER LEVEL SYSTEM MOVING OUT OF THE GREAT LAKES, AND INDICATIONS ARE THAT OUR REGION MAY EXPERIENCE A WIDESPREAD DAMAGING STORM, POSSIBLY OF HISTORIC PROPORTIONS.
WIDESPREAD DAMAGING WINDS ARE POSSIBLE. THE EXACT STORM TRACK IS STILL UNCERTAIN AND THIS WILL DETERMINE THE ACTUAL IMPACTS. HOWEVER, THE STORM IS FORECAST TO BE A LARGE STORM THEREFORE DO NOT FOCUS ON THE EXACT CENTER OF THE STORM. IT APPEARS THAT THE STRONGEST WINDS WILL OCCUR MONDAY AND TUESDAY.
IN ADDITION, WIDESPREAD HEAVY RAIN /POSSIBLY AS MUCH AS 6 TO 10 INCHES/ WOULD CAUSE SIGNIFICANT FLOODING ON RIVERS AND STREAMS ACROSS THE REGION. THIS COULD BE MAJOR TO EVEN RECORD FLOODING. RAIN CAN BE EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING THE DAY SUNDAY OR SUNDAY EVENING AND THEN CONTINUE MONDAY WHEN IT WILL BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES. AS WATER IS PUSHED TOWARD THE COAST, COASTAL FLOODING WILL INCREASE AND THIS COULD BE TO MAJOR TO PERHAPS EVEN RECORD LEVELS ALONG THE COASTS OF NEW JERSEY AND DELAWARE. THE EXTENT OF THE COASTAL FLOODING WILL BE DEPENDENT ON THE TRACK OF THE STORM.
THIS HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE A LARGE AND RECORD SETTING STORM, WITH WIDESPREAD WIND DAMAGE, INLAND AND COASTAL FLOODING, AND BEACH EROSION. THE COMBINATION OF THE HEAVY RAIN AND WIND WILL CREATE THE POTENTIAL FOR WIDESPREAD POWER OUTAGES AND SIGNIFICANT FLOODING. AT THIS TIME, THE MOST LIKELY TIME FRAME FOR THE WORST OF THE RAIN AND WIND LOOKS TO BE MONDAY AND TUESDAY. THIS MEANS THERE IS STILL TIME TO PREPARE.

Hmm, don't have to tell me that, been living in NYC since 02. 2006 was a fun winter. :noid Wonder if winter will actually be winter this year. Last year ('11) we had snow for one day, the day before Halloween, and it 10 or 15 inches. The rest of the winter was 40-50 degree weather. Chilly, but not cold at all.
-
well you guys are more than welcome to float up to my house, I live on top of a hill about 500 ft above the river so I dont think I will get flooded, you can come right up the connecticut river :lol

I was listening to a weather expert on the radio yesterday (a REAL expert, not some talking head) and he was explaining how his whole career he's wondered when this will happen because it's happened before, back in the '50s. He was talking about it just being a matter of timing for just a few different variables to come together. He said he's seen the setup happen several times before but those storms veered just a bit left or right and didn't nail the magic combo that could flood out NY. But it's happened before and it'll happen again, so it isn't anything "new", it's just new to us because we haven't seen it happen in most of our lifetimes.

Here in NE Ohio it rained all day Friday. Now it is still raining because of the storms outter bands heading north along a stalled cold front.
We've had 48 hours of constant rain. Natioinal Weather Service has issued a flood warning and a high wind warning for the northern half
of Ohio. The warning extends until Tuesday. This storm is huge. The state of Ohio is readying for the potential of wide spread power outages
due to the sustained winds forcast at 45mph with gust up to 60mph. There also is the possibility of getting anywhere from 4 to 12 inches of snow
from this storm. With 48 straight hours of rain and more to come the ground is saturated. Sustained winds will topple trees. This is Ohio
fer crissakes! We don't get hurricanes.

Photo taken yesterday afternoon by a guy on another forum i belong too
Why.....just why would you go out in this weather?
Insurance purposes. :D
-
Got the full story on it.......apparantly the owner wasnt even on the craft, and didnt even know the boat was out, The boat....named Net Gains, a 33ft Grady Whine out of Belmar marina, was being moved out of the marina where he keeps it. It was being moved by a marina employee, to a location where they could haul it out.
Guess how fast i would have told my boss to go to hell if he asked me to do that :lol

I SEE lawsuits coming from that......
it's 430pm right now........steady rain, not heavy, but enough to getcha soaked really quick if ya venture outside. wind gusgint, dunno the speed, but it's rattling my bay doors. getting loaded up in the jeep to head home now, and hunker down.
-
Great. I just got a load going to Pennsylvania tomorrow. :uhoh
-
had some high winds, and a little rain nothing tooo bad here in southern vermont. I guess from what I hear is that the worst is supposed to hit tonight through tomorrow. as of this moment it is pretty calm :)

I've been watching the gauge at the Bettery in NYC. The water is up to 13.2ft and still rising. I've seen a few reports on twitter that the subways are filling up with water now.
Here's the link if anyone wants to keep an eye on water levels.

Sandy is over rated. Huge storm, but not nearly what they were building it up to be.
I guess always better to be over cautious. Power went out her (South Jersey) for 2 hrs.
Back on already:) Hope it stays.
Lucky W. Va. is getting the 2 ft of Snow.
 Oz

Damn bailey! No actually we've only had the power go out twice for short periods of time! Winds outside roughly 10-20 max, rain has been moderate all day, Im expecting it to hit us much harder/get here later tonight or tomorrow however. stay safe buddy :pray :salute
-
Lights flickered a few times for me, but no outages. Watching the wind outside 60mph gusts I'm surprised it hasn't gone out yet.
Where are you mbailey? If the rain keeps up tonight like it's supposed to, no doubt my basement is going to flood too.

if i were close enough, my generator would be powering your sump pump.......
-
Well if it does fill with water at least theres equal pressure on the basement walls. That is of course if the ground outside is as saturated.
Ugly deal anyway a person looks at it.
-
Power just went out again :cry
-
And again :cry :cry
-
saw a guy run 6 garden hoses out basement windows siphoning water out of his basement before :( I am with Cap, if I were closer you could use my genny, just did an oilchange and carb cleaning, fires up in about a half a pull everytime :D keep safe everyone :salute :pray

I have to deliver a load near Pittsburgh on Wednesday morning. This could be interesting. That's right after the storm center has passed.
Gonna make sure I have plenty of fuel to get back out if there's no power.

We lost power last night around 9 as we got home from picking up a few necessities at KMart. Plenty of candles and blankets got us through the night but will be grabbing some ice and begin filling coolers at lunch break today. I don't expect power to be restored for a few days.
Of course work has power..... :furious
-
Dragon, glad to hear y'all are in one piece. How's everyone else?
-
i am thoroughly shocked. electricity stayed on all night. high winds, some rain, nd now today the sun's poking through.

your works got no electricity? i'm ok here at the shop. customers that live behind the coastline bar up the road, some had it, some lost it.

If we get a light breeze the electric goes out there.

its cleared up here, maybe a few more sprinkles.
Other than it being cold now Sandy wasn't bad for us. :)
I also wish you guys up north luck as you guys have to see her all up close and personal.

I'm in Bayville across the bay from seaside heights, NJ and aside from the neighbors trees in my yard and no electric everything is ok. After the lights went out last nite, the sky was lit up with bright green flashes from transformers shorting out. While north of me in Ocean Gate there were two fires that made the sky glow orange, very ominous. My mother and sister's family live in Pt. Pleasant Beach west of the rt 35 bridge on the manasquan river, and i haven't heard from them today at all. Nobody is allowed on the barrier islands yet so we wait for the tide to go out and see what happens. I got my boat out of the water on Sunday, i had to wait for the tide to go out then too, the dock was under about a foot of water at high tide and barely went out because of the wind. I hope it didn't float too far away, it was only across channel drive from the marina on blocks.
-
My power went out at about 10:30 last night and literally just came back on within the last 3-4 minutes  :furious
-
My golf net blew over and there is a 2 foot stick in my driveway.
I'll be praying for you in these trying times. :pray

that's usually how it is where i live. and i can look 2 blocks away, and see the entire street lit up. :bhead
ive got customers all over cherry hill though with no electricity. they're all scrambling for generators, and you and i both know that no one has any worthwhile generators in stock right now.
-
My coworker and I bought generators while we were overnight in Illinois. No chaos or panic to speak of and we had our pick of sizes. There were also fuel cans available.
If there was a generator of any quality for sale within 100 miles and 24 hours of landfall I'd be amazed.
I was lucky. Power stayed on and only one leaky spot I managed to fix 10 minutes after catching it. All's well.

where at in pa are you again? i'm wondering if i can reasonably get up that way to lend a hand?
-
Not making this trip,
But there are LOTS of linemen on the way. My outfit has stripped us to the bone to man the travel crews, and more may happen.
Let them work folks, they will appreciate that more than anything else.
Thoughts with all affected, even those here at home.

Man I'm sure glad I don't live in Morris County, NJ anymore...165,000+ with no power.
-
24 hours so far without power, trees came down all over my neighborhood. One was only 5 houses down. Flooding not too far away, glad I live on a hill. Missing a few shingles from my roof. Sucks not having electricity. Meanwhile, the street across has power. Dang you ConEdison. Hope everyone is safe. :)

Im in the Lehigh Valley (Center Valley) ....last time i checked PP&L had listed 122k homes without power in my county
. Appreciate the offer Cap, but im sure theres folks on your side of the river much worse off. Really cool of you though, and Id do it for you in a second were the tables turned.
I think were all good here, Its like camping but inside....No heat, but gas stove burners still work, so hot meals are a plus....that and i did a fairly large non perishable food run before this thing hit. And im a sucker for Campbells soup and peanutbutter sandwiches LOL...... Kids are going a bit stir crazy....
Im getting alot of pics from friends down the shore..Im sitting here in awe of what im seeing......Ill post em up once i get power back.

Bridgeport's Sikorsky airport is completely underwater right now. Both runways are unusable and clogged with debris. As a plus side those fn landing fee machines are definitely dead.

Thanks man...try and stay dry.I keep getting calls and reports from my fishing buddies over in the LBI
Sandy Hook and Atlantic Highlands areas.....I'm almost ashamed to even post my circumstances here. Compared to what they have going on...I'm living in a resort. where at in pa are you again? i'm wondering if i can reasonably get up that way to lend a hand?
Thanks Cap...I'm sure you have your hands full on your side of the river....that and my road is blockek at both ends by trees.... I know Molsman lives about 20mins from me....wonder if hes in the dark?
-
Finally heard from my mother who lives in Point Pleasant Beach. My mom and sisters first floors were flooded, and they lost all of their vehicles. My boat was pulled and blocked up on sunday, now it back in the water behind Spikes Fishery. Worse part about the boat is i removed the drain plug so it didn't fill with water.

i has a jeep. i can get through anything.
that said, i got off easy, as did most of my family/friends/customers. i can't find anything showing the path the hurricane actually took, but if it went near milleville as it was predicted, that put it pretty darn close to me. i think that was a blessing in disguise, judging by the sounds of things in central/north jersey.
-
Mbailey
sorry to hear.... :pray
-
Seems most of us inland did well. There are a lot of trees/branches knocked down.
I lost power for 2 hours, biggest thing was losing the internet til this A.M.
The Shore near Atlantic City, as well as most of Jersey Shore, is trashed.
Honestly, seemed like just another run of the mill Nor'Easter here 15 miles NE of Philly.
 Oz

saw some of the images / video on the news,
Hope you guys are all doing ok.

Over 900,000 homes and businesses here on Long Island without power. Thousands of homes damaged or destroyed by the storm surge. Many thousands of homes damaged by falling trees and wind.
My company will be closed until power is restored, likely not until near the end of the week.
My home suffered no damage, other than a loose shingle. I've already lost 4 trees over the years to hurricanes and nor-easters. I had three sections of stockade fence come apart, but I planned to replace the entire fence this spring anyway. Minor clean up took a couple of hours. We didn't lose power or cable. Our immediate area always seems to come through with the power lines intact. Lots of trees down in various neighbor's yards. Two on houses, with one very badly damaged. An 80 foot pine fell across the driveway of the neighbor behind us. I went over there and chainsawed off the top 25 feet to get his driveway clear. It'll take a tree service to remove the rest. An old, unused phone line pulled partially out of another neighbor's house. Dangling about 8 feet above the road, I could see that the first truck that came through would rip the junction box off of the neighbor's house, possibly doing damage. I cut the line, looped up the wire and tied it off to the power pole. I then disconnected the balance from the junction box. Busy day yesterday.
-
one of my customers has a son in hoboken(i think?) which he said is just off the hudson? he said parts of it are below the level of the water under normal circumstances.........his son lost both cars, and his house may be beyond repair too........
-
Our power came back on last night, but still have 120k + without power here.
-
No it is not. A cheap juvenile shot at a disaster.
This is a weak storm..... not a disaster. It will do damage to an area that rarely gets hit.
-

actually this is 3 years in a row something's hit us in this area.
-
actually this is 3 years in a row something's hit us in this area.
Still rare.
I read where 40 people have lost their lives so far. At least one was a fireman doing his job..... terrible.
I just hope he was not trying to rescue someone who did not evacuate when told to do so.
-
If you ask many who have homes or businesses at the shore this storm was devastating. Some of the charming Beachfront homes that have stood for almost a century are now in the Barnegate Bay. The Boardwalks may never be the same. Memories are all that's left of days at the boardwalk, walking on the creaking wood floors in the arcades, the Carousels, the scent of an iconic sausage sandwich stand, and taking the kids on the day trips I was taken by my Parents.
We will carry on, we're tough, We are New Jersey. Living by the Ocean the threat of Nature is always there. It has shown it's beauty and now It's terrible power. Things will be replaced and you have to be thankfull the loss of life was minimal.
I myself consider myself lucky. No power for several days now but my home is sound and dry. I live very near the Bay and hundreds of homes nearby had 5'+ of water including my Nieces home. My Brother in Law has been on duty for several days now as he is search and rescue for one of our local Fire Depts. Massive amounts of wires are down and getting power back may take a bit but many workers were in place before the storm hit and I thank all those that have left their comfort to help us out. :aok
-
a friend of mine is is in the guard. their down in atlantic city trying to rescue people that thought this was mild. thanks to the mayor countermanding the governers order to evac.
talk to mbaily about how mild this is/was. i'm thankful nothing bad happened to me or mine......
-
Made out OK in Northern Delaware. It's amazing how these storms pick and choose where to do all the damage. As the crow flies we're not that far from extreme destruction on the Jersey coast and here it was just a nasty rainy night. I volunteered to work thru the night and got put up in a hotel and just flipped thru the channels watching the weather chicks waiting for calls for floods or power outages that never happened. By the way Philly area guys after years of being a big Cecily fan I think Sheena is blowing by her as weather chicks go. I gotta say that's gonna go down as the easiest OT I ever had.
Down South at our beaches there was a lot of damage from flooding. Much like what you've seen in OC, NJ only a notch worse. My parents have a beach house there that's two blocks from the ocean on the bay side and they had a lot of flooding. Didn't quite make it onto the first floor which is good but otherwise it's a mess. Looks like a war zone outside according to my brother earlier this afternoon.
My in-laws are in North Jersey and have been without power since early Monday afternoon. They have a lot of trees down.
For this locale in recent memory I'll take Floyd for straight up rain, Isabel for straight up wind (that one took out trees all over and I was out of power for days). Then we had remnants of Henri that was a largely unforecasted ammount of mayhem. That one had incredible flooding and spun tornadoes out of nowhere and then was just gone. Tossed around the C-130s at the NG base near me like they were toys. Needless to say there were no C-130s on the tarmac here by Friday night.

It was a storm. It could have been a lot worse. That was not a bad storm by comparison.

How long do you think it will be until salt water taffy and copper kettle fudge is once again flowing out to those in need?

My cousin's house... 5,000 sq/ft, boat slip on the canal on the great South Bay of Long Island. Six feet of water in the ground floor....
A genuine Amityville Horror.

Funny, funny midCoombzway, kinda reality around here. Except for us poor locals. Spare a pentz Midcombzyway sir? :D
Anyways just saw my internetz is working. Eastern shore,MD we recieved 11 inches of rain ,and wind gusts around 70-80mph. Power went out for alittle over 24hrs, some less, some more.
Sorry to see parts of NJ, caught the worst part of storm surge. Isabel, wasn't a big rain maker here years ago. Till morning when the tides /surge came in the house. It stops being even remotely funny when that happens. As for the boardwalks calm down, nails and wood they'll be rebuilt.
Bailey, that's a nice boat in your picture. Did the idiot return the boat safely back into the inlet, or beach it?
-
Still no power for about 54+ hours....things are ok here. House is getting cold but we will deal. Got a roof and 4 walls which is alot more than most people. Starting to hate Campbells soup, and the though of peanut butter is making me nausious (sp) :lol Were gonna wander out south tommorow as I got a call from my friend that the town south of us (where he lives) got power back today.......Im gonna eat my weight in pancakes.
Wish I could go out and buy every one of those Linemen working so hard around here a cup of coffee. They are a credit to their trade :aok
Drano, glad to see you checked in brotha and that you and the family are ok......stay safe.
If any of you want to know how NJ will be after this, re read Slates post........ :aok :aok

Ill know more after i touch base with some of my friends on the coast. What i do know is one of the guys called me and told me that that photo was on TV. Famous for being a moron......lol.
I know that at least 1 friend completely lost his home, but him and his family are safe. Ive tried to get ahold of a guy from AH that is over in Jersey near the coast, but havent got a text back from him yet. Couple others are flooded out.I also know that LBI is really in a bad way.....wife and I have gone there every year since our childhoods........and taken the kids since they were babies.....really sad knowing that a place that has brought us so much joy over our lifetimes is destroyed.
One thing i will say is that this Verizon 4G MiFi thing work gave me is a lifesaver.
-
sad part is that something like this will probably hit the area again next year.

Yes not many have mentioned the enviromental impact to the Area. Many homes on the Barrier Islands are very old and there is vast amounts of heating oil in the water. We sometimes forget nature has shaped the Barrier Islands many times. There is now a new inlet at the Mantolokin Bridge area. In the 1700's the cranberry inlet was open in the Normandy Beach area but closed up after many storms.

Sharks swimming around on Beach Ave. in Brigantine.
First full day back to work. Running on generator at home.
Alive. Thankful.
Not that bad of a storm? Come on, Shuff. Depends who you ask and where they live.

Pump the wind up to 110, 120, or even 150 and you'll see a huge difference. As with any storm it is dangerous. It is just not that strong.
Things could be much worse than what we are seeing now.
Unfortunately we are seeing way too many die as a result of ignoring evacuation orders. The kids..... they simply had no choice.

Yes for any flooded area the first thing you have to worry about is drinking water. Sewers overflow.... gas oil.... all the flooded cars. You must even be more careful in cleanup as getting cut could introduce anything into your system.

The issue around here are the ancient, huge trees and density of the neighborhoods. If a tree falls around here, it can take out half a block of houses.
Same with the electric. Take out one part of the grid and it can be 100k people without power. While the storm itself was not the worst ever seen on the planet, the effects it has had are the worst in this area in the past 100 years.

Good to see your ok VM......was in your neighborhood today.....80ft oak tree vs house.........tree won. Literally cut the house in half. Everyone ok though.
Im showing up at my insureds homes looking a bit scruffy.....but they all understand. Actually had a guy offer me a disposable razor and some shaving cream. Told him im keeping the "beard" till i get power back....... Good people around here :aok
Was in North Wales, they had power, and Wifes office in Hatfield has power (Unionville and 309).Hopefully their working in your area to get things done.......also saw a bunch of line trucks staging in the Merck area (10+ or so)
Still no power here, house is cold as heck, but getting by.
PPL telling us probably be back on by Sunday here at home. Good thing is Quakertown has power, and im a sucker for diner food :D

Lots of trees down in Lansdale.
I'm behind the Wendy's (technically Upper Gwynedd)
I have a monstrous Pin Oak in my back yard about 60 years old. I keep it healthy and well trimmed. I would not want to see that thing come down :noid

I`m glad you all made it through unscathed and power is coming back on,
and you have the opportunity to rebuild your homes & lives... good old war spirit!
It sure was a big storm , catergory 1..(shuff..cant get much bigger)
I just want to mention Jamaica, Cuba and the Bahamas..the whole Caribbean devastation .they took it bad too..
and they have, obviously much more flimsy housing...200,000 in Haiti are now homeless due to the storm! with over 50 dead.
Just a thought that though it is bad it could be worse.
My thoughts are with all that felt the wraith of Sandy.

in a way, you're probably getting better recieved by your customers showing up a bit "scruffy" when our insurance agent used to come out, he came out just dressed casual. was a cool guy. when he retired, his son took over his accounts. he always comes out in a suit and tie.....IF he comes out. i don't like the kid. very close to changing insurance companies 'cause of him in fact.
