With some of the current threads and some of the more prevalent posters activities I was actually moved to read the rules:-
"4- Flamebaiting, flaming, being abusing, being disrepectful, trolling, spamming or posting to incite or annoy is not allowed. If you cannot make a positive contribution to the thread, then just stay out of it".
Do members of this forum think this rule is applied or applied consistently and secondly do you think the rule should be applied more, or would this make the forum sterile and boring. In short, does the community enjoy 'drama'?
-
Drama is ok as long as it's contained in a separate thread. Quite entertaining actually. If we're talking about midway, I think "Flamebaiting" covers the subject well :D

At first I read: Flamebaiting, flaming, being drunk... That would forbid any Finn from posting unfortunately.

The interwebz involve strange terms, people, and activities. :uhoh

Midway is / was just one instantiation of this pattern of behaviour. I just wanted a forum-user's discussion of this issue.

That definition does seem accurate and is covered by Rule № 4. See what I mean?

Having never posted to anger, offend, or enrage, I declare my innocence of said activity. :old:
Flamebaiting is not a real word according to Merriam-Webster. :old:
Sometimes truths offend or enrage those not able to face said truths. :old:

I like costume Dramas like "Upstairs and Downstairs" :)
Pity about Bruv leaving :cry

IMO
This community enjoys drama.........
I assume this is aimed at Midway/Who...... or at least incited/motivated by the recent Midway/Nrshida dialogue.
IMO Midway adopts the role of the ultimate sycophant and then expands the role to compare the object of his sycophancy with others.
Sycophancy itself is sufficient to enrage the character sets of many here...... of course many may be annoyed when they find they have been dragged into this game.......... and further annoyed when a persona they cannot respect makes judgement upon them......... and annoyed further when they realise they have actually taken note of said judgement.
Of course this is all theory and his persona may be genuine and not a creation......... but if it were a creation then it is surely one created to at least annoy others.
I would venture to suggest that this community exhibits many community/mob/tribe tendancies such that if we did not have a "Midway" we would surley find another or invent one.
-
Midway is a very nice bloke, everyone should take a brisk walk and eat fresh fruit :old:
-
I assume this is aimed at Midway/Who...... or at least incited/motivated by the recent Midway/Nrshida dialogue.
It is not directed at him but yes motivated by my complete and almost autistic lack of understanding about this kind of activity. I suspect this trend will likely increase and must adapt.
Please keep this discussion free from personal attack and drama everyone. I really do hope to understand the dynamic more.

I demand a apology :old:

I suspect "Sky" "Rock" is attempting to invoke an angry response. :old:
He may still be angrily shamed due my previous pwnage of his F4U. :old:
I will have none of this possible attempt at flamebaiting. :old:
Consider your way. Consider it indeed. :old:

My name is not "midwho". :old:
I prefer to be called Midway or who, the pronoun referring to Midway, but I'm sure you already know this. :old:
I have just learned of this flamebaiting concept. :old:
This response is not angry therefore your possible flamebaiting attempt has not succeeded. :old:
PS: Since none of my responses have ever been angry, to even some of the most crude and meanest posts, I must be immune to said flamebaiting. :P

I agree 100% with Tilts assessment. This community thrives on drama and verbal attacks o this BBS. One only has to look at the threads that get the most views and responses. Any threads Midway, Warbeast, DavidWales, etc. starts usually are good for 10 or 15 pages of flaming responses. Where as the death of a player or a question about WW2 aviation or battle tactics are only good for a half dozen pages at the most.... Sad but true.
I for one get a big kick out of some of the flame jobs handed out on these boards. I will usually keep up with the threads AkAk and the Muppets post in because their clever responses to some posters just plain crack me up and sometimes shock me. I get a good laugh out of it usually.
I've thought for quite some time now that the General Discussion part of this BBS is nothing more then an extendsion of the combat in the MA. I usually take long breaks from the game every so often due to burnout or real life getting in the way, but it's always the BBS that pulls me back in for more.
-
I rarely see #4 enforced on this BBS.

Skuzzy has neither the time nor the inclination to read every thread and every post on this board to see if they need to be moderated for breaking rule 4 or any other rule
90% of the time you would need to hit the report post button for him to take a look and 'Rule #4' an abusive post

... Midtwit drivel...
ha! C'mon middytwitty, flaming/baiting is your game, embrace it, it's what you're known for... it's a letdown to smacktalking in general to see someone with much potential in the smacktalk game be so annoyingly unable to back it up! :aok
-
I think Uptown is right, the drama threads seem to attract most views by a considerable margin.
The more you know
The General Discussion is not Skuzzy's responsibility I heard.
Perhaps some people don't realise they are trolling?
-
Regardless of what you heard, what I posted is the truth :old:
I am not sure that it's possible for someone to be unaware that they are trolling...the very definition.of the word seems to suggest that it's not
I suppose someone could be unaware that they are antagonizing people, but they wouldn't remain unaware for long

If the community likes drama and trolling and all of that stuff then I am the anomaly and should stop trying to appeal for civility. That would be good to know and that's why I asked.

So in a general discussion about Rule № 4 some people are violating Rule № 4? There is some kind of twisted logic to this :lol

I really think Skuzzy lets it go for awhile while he builds his list then comes through with the banhammer at once.
-
I do it a lot and seem to get away with it. I may have just outed myself though.

Hell no it's not applied consistently.

I personaly think with a number of individuals it should be applied more, or at least as agressively as the other rules. But if that happens then Skuzzy will have to waste/spend some time and then only gets called names like Skuzzinator and the Skuzztapo by the rest of us for his effort, or at best springs up another "underground" fanboys site. :rofl
-
By learning how to not be a cheap toy to the likes of Bruv's :rock and similar pilot's awesome skills, and therefore having nothing to admire any longer since I/we could down him/them with the same ease :ahand and frequency as he/they do me/us... the problem would be solved. :aok
There would then be no more name calling and disparagement :furious for those  that openly admire said awesome skills by those that are envious  or otherwise concerned :frown: about those with said admiration which seems to cause the concerned to want to over analyze  the admiring ones.
So by me/us learning to be equal to the best among us...
... the problem would be dramatically reduced or eliminated. :)
Problem solved.
Now, if only I/we could easily learn said awesome skills to carry out the above plan, life would be so much simpler in Aces High for those that are envious  or otherwise concerned :frown: with the admiring  ones. :joystick:

It's all he has. That's why he won't go to the DA and back it up, to do so would force him to face the unvarnished truth of his complete suckage. This way he can still try and convince his tattered and bruised ego that he is the experten he believes himself to be and he won't do anything to put that at risk because the truth is something he can't face.

How can the truth "besmirch" your good name? It's a fact that you're too timid to back up anything in the DA because you know you don't have the ability. It's a fact you fly the Spitfire not because of any ability on your part but rather let the Spitfire do the flying for you, which is why you couldn't handle your own challenge in flying the P-38 as it took far more skill and ability than you could ever hope to possess.
Finally, look how ManaWar was able to kick your bellybutton in a FW against your 'vaunted' Spitfire.
Facts don't lie and the facts clearly state you suck.
ack-ack

"A couple weeks ago, I went to the DA with Who. We had five fights, I lost them all. We both were flying the same A/C. I lost the fights through poor rolling scissors execution. A couple of the fights he owned me, a couple were good. Who has improved a lot since he first started. Perhaps he is a shade, I do not know or care. He executed well timed maneuvers and beat me." -- TomG
This involved P38 vs P38 and Spitfire vs Spitfire duels. Having told you this before in another thread, perhaps you forgot? :headscratch:
Or perhaps you are incorrectly besmirching? :huh
We'll let the community read, contemplate, and determine truth. M'kay? :aok

The 'Daily Diary of WARBEAST "Kill Club"' thread is doing rather well isn't it? Over 2500 reads so far.
-
Some of this audience remembers the reason for the creation of the blog FlameWarriors. Effectively no rules of any nature applied to content other than thick skin. About the best thing you could take away from that form of unrestriced forum was their pr@no collection. Otherwise the site seemed to be a cosmic competition to out abuse each other in any manner possible for no reason needed.
It cannot be that hard to start a private open membership blog dedicated to the daily goings on of Aces High with absolutely no restrictions on content. Then you would releive Skuzzy and Hitech of only being as consistant as the available time from running Hitech Creations. FlameWarriors cleared out the O'Club of the most partisan and vociferous ideologs. You could do the same for the General game forums while finaly having at each other with all of your unchained vitrol.

Nothing I posted is wrong - Skuzzy doesn't moderate every single thread and post and 90% of the time you need to report an offensive post for it to be Rule #4

That's it. Lots and lots of AHers have been to their offices but I suppose you needed to say something in order to pass off your first hand knowledge of how Skuzzy spends his time. Unless you're Skuzzy, you are only speculating how he spends his time and that's about all you contributed to this thread... Speculation.
Hey, knowing is important right? Lol
-
...and I was told he doesn't do the General, that's HiTech's domain. This could explain the sometimes inconsistent interpretation / application of the rules.
I'm merely repeating what Skuzzy told me when I asked about inconsistent application of the rules.
Regardless of whose domain it is, no one is reading and moderating every single thread and the rules are only rarely applied because not many people use the report post button
I have posted no speculation in this thread, only facts
-
The Ignore list is a beautiful thing. I've opened threads and the first five comments don't show, good feeling
-
no one is reading and moderating every single thread and the rules are only rarely applied because not many people use the report post button
I hear you Mr. Coombz.
Interestingly lots of people seem to think the rules are inconsistently applied. Even Mr Coombz, who was born on the internet, had to enquire :old:
-
Well, inconsistently applied is how it appears...because most people here don't know how the system works, the same as most people didn't know how the ingame chat moderation worked until it was spelled out in a recent thread (and even then one particular specimen failed repeatedly to understand it).
Hence this thread, responses like muzik's, and my query in the past which led to Skuzzy explaining the facts to me.
The rules aren't inconsistently applied, they simply aren't applied at all in the vast majority of cases. Just start spamming that report button on posts that clearly violate the rules and I guarantee you will see more moderation of abusive posts.

Given that I can down you a minimum of 35% of the time, by your own admission, and that was months ago, and I have improved since... ergo likely can down you now 60% or more... and given that Bruv still pwns me today like a cheap toy, practically 100% of the time... therefore your two films don't impress me much. I did watch them and could tell Bruv likely appeared to be distracted while you were likely at the top of your game.
:headscratch:
So... now you go on and on about two fights in your whole time in Aces High with Bruv, whom is now the triple TOC champion :rock and knowing that I, myself, can and have pwned you with relative ease, occasionally like a cheap toy... to which you respond with "meh"... well... it's fairly obvious to me that... well... let's just leave it there. Ok? :)
Until and unless you were to come prove otherwise in a best out of 10, given what I know and have seen with my own eyes, until proven otherwise, the fact is and will remain...
Bruv > who / Shane (and likely now who > Shane) :aok
I will gladly stand corrected should you be able to prove otherwise. :old:
As far as AKAK, pray tell how many months ago that film is dated.
Regardless, I must say I <3 Shane :rock for his attempt at trying to show he is up to the level of awesomesauce that he often proclaimed, although, at times, inaccurately, imho. But that's ok, we all make mistakes, on occasion, as I did when I inaccurately stated that I thought I could beat the awesome skills of Bruv roughly 5% of the time. I have since corrected my thinking and apologized for said mistake in a previous thread. :aok
Now, way way more than nuff said. :old:

Okay Who let me explain something to you about "pwning". I had several K alt in a seafire above akak the other night and saddled up on him pretty easy. But I didn't fire as I felt it'd be too cheezy of me. He ended up slamming into the ground trying to shake me off his six. You would can that "pwning' akak.
I on the other hand would not. Because I know every single player that has ever this game can.... and has been beat if the chips fall in the right place. I know for a fact the akak would beat me 10 out of 10 times if we were to fight on equal terms in the DA. I highly suspect you won't DA anyone because you know what the outcome would be.
I've watched you fly in the MA and your tactic is nothing new. I've watched you watching me for instance. You just waiting for me to be not looking. Or while I'm engaged in another fight you'll be grabbing alt or building E as I use mine up.
You wouldn't have that kind of time to set up your kills in the duel. So how about you shutting your mouth on this "pwning" crap until you actually grow a set of balls to back up your big game talk in the DA.
Take this Shane guy the the DA and if you beat him 35% of the time ...then and only then have you earned the right to brag about "pwning" someone.
-
Take this Shane guy the the DA and if you beat him 35% of the time ...then and only then have you earned the right to brag about "pwning" someone.
well, technically he'd have to win 60% of the time, as most duels are best out of 5, but IMO, "pwning" would be winning all 5. if you just won 3 out of 5, then you just beat the guy, "pwning" is complete victory, where there is no doubt the better pilot! :aok
-

QFT you're absolutely correct.
But you know considering the mentality of Who, even if he only won 1 fight it'd be a total pwnage on his part

Minimum? If anything it's maximum as you're unlikely to improve on it. :aok
I was far from the top of my game. I repeatedly reminded you in-game that the level of my passion wasn't anywhere near my "prime." :old:
Have you already forgotten the other films of myself and bruv? I'm old, what was the outcome of those again? :headscratch:
I think the community has spoken as to the level of my awesomesauce...ness :aok Not that I need approval of any sort from anyone, just using your line of reasoning.
Let me know when you actually improve and I might be tempted to come back at 50% passion and still pwn you more than a substantial amount of the time. :ahand

Neither of us are getting any younger (you know what they say about the eyes and reflexes being the first to go,) but neither are you seeming to be getting any better - according to the community, you know? Despite the random one-off kudos from a nublet here and there.
You say you won't join the ToC because you "can't win." I've never participated because I know I'd win.
Go re-read the thread started by Randy1 - lots of good advice there that even you could benefit from. :bhead

QFT you're absolutely correct.
But you know considering the mentality of Who, even if he only won 1 fight it'd be a total pwnage on his part
S T O P R E S P O N D I N G T O H I S P O S T S. HE MAY SUCK IN THE ARENAS BUT HE HAS PWNAGE IN HERE. NEVER SPEAK TO HIM OR OF HIM AGAIN. IT'S THAT SIMPLE.
-

You keep wanting to emphasize "more than substantial frequency"... well, given your knowledge of many of our good fights that I won and had that percentage only been 30%, that alone would easily have been defined as "substantial frequency" (being almost a third). :)
Since, by your own admission, I won over a third of the time, your "more than substantial frequency" semantic word playing had already happened since 35%+ > 30%. I can be silly with semantics too, but won't be... regardless, the bottomeline is... you were towered way many more times than you would have preferred to my then somewhat lower level of skill... so what does that say about your awesomesauce...ness? Weaksauce, huh? :aok
Now, way way way more than nuff said. :old:
-
:headscratch: If one of my kids got a 30% grade on their math test they would be grounded for getting a failing grade.....wtf is that ...a F+ :headscratch:

Not my silliness with semantics. You chose a word that can be used either way, and as pointed out, is being used in the wrong context here. As I also pointed out earlier, if you can't beat someone more than a substantial amount of the time, it's not called pwnage, it's called being schooled. Uhh and if you think I care about who kills me in the MA, there are many lesser pilots than yourself who have gotten more kills on me in a month than vice versa. I'm pretty secure in who I am relative to AH. You need to listen to this community of which you speak, you know, the one that you say *should* speak - and they have. So listen. :aok

Me being a so called weaksauced noob beating a self defined expert awesomesauced pilot 35%+, by his own admission, would be like your Alegra I student taking a Stanford Differential Equations test and getting more than a third of the problems correct, with proofs and work shown. :aok
Obviously having won that often does validate a level of skill denied by most others. :old:

How many of those 35% were HO's, picks, gangs? Your 35% drops pretty fast. No one says you don't have any skill... but I think we all agree you possess neither talent nor the ability to listen. You sure are determined tho' - but not in what's being considered a positive way.
Let me rephrase my challenge... don't let me know when you've "improved," show me. That fly more, post less deal you keep alluding to. :aok
<edit: And the analogy to the math tests? Off the mark, it would be more akin to a 7th grader taking a pre-algerba test, scoring less than "guessing" but only because you did okay on the simple word problems.> :rofl

Off the mark on several points, but I won't dwell on it further. :old:

Shane, Uptown and Shida...you're getting pwned. Stop please. Much love. Leave him to twist in the forest alone.

I win the intardnetz!! I made Midway speechless. :O :rock :ahand :neener:

You're wrong. *I* won't dwell on it further. *You* will. :t

Not me mate, this is all I see:-
"You are ignoring this user. Show me the post".
Bliss. Of course you get a degree of seepage when people quote, but I've learned two things from caring for Tiny Shida: not all nappies (diapers) are able to 100% contain the 'product', and secondly, once you've seen a few 'products' you've basically seen them all :rofl

I don't need the "community" to speak.
The truth is self evident, to me... as you well know. :ahand :bolt:

If a tree is ignored in the forest, but you still talk about it all the time, does it make a sound?
Shane currently way ahead of Skyrock, AKAK and nrshida in the 100 metre 'trolled by Midway' and pulling away fast from all other competitors...

Using analogies... I'd opine you're closer to the little boy who cried wolf as opposed to being a Da Vinci.

He's boxed-in in his box.
And besides I got him to :bhead That's full of winsauce right there. Acknowledge! :furious

Do I?
Mr Coombz have you been reporting posts which violate the rules? :old:

negative :) reporting posts isn't my style
snitches get found in ditches...
also it would be incredibly hypocritical of me

Coombzy not to argue but it is
"Snitches get stitches" :D
-
'Snitching' is something else though surely?
Grassing someone up in real life, or running to the moderators because you can't deal with what someone on the internet is saying to you, are both things that my personal philosophy has no room for :)
For the same reason I spurn the ignore function on this and other forums.

"Snitches get stitches" :D
Both are common and perfectly valid expressions :aok
-
Running to the moderators because you can't deal with what someone on the internet is saying to you, is something my personal philosophy has no room for :)
So you think it is weak of people to report posts that violate the rules, even though you said earlier the moderation only works if people do so?
For the same reason I spurn the ignore function on this and other forums.
But you presumably employ some kind of internal 'ignore', what's the difference?
-
So you think it is weak of people to report posts that violate the rules, even though you said earlier the moderation only works if people do so?
To each his own, personally I prefer to argue with people :) But that's just me. As I said, the moderation will generally only take place if people report posts...but that was just to explain how it works for the benefit of your thread on the subject.
The forum I have spent most of my time on during my gaming days (10+ years :uhoh) has no moderation whatsoever, unless someone melts down and starts posting gay porn images or other dodgy stuff. That's the kind of internet environment I am most comfortable with...free speech, for better or worse :]
But you presumably employ some kind of internal 'ignore', what's the difference?
Not really...I generally respond to even the most annoying and impossible to get through to posters, even though I know I'm wasting my time. I know you know that's true, as you have been a part of some of those threads :D
But as I said above, to each his own...I know that your stated reason for ignoring Midway is that you find it hard NOT to engage with him and try to reason logically with him, and as you know he is just an attention seeking troll and you're wasting your time doing so, it annoys you that you get drawn in. So you ignore him. I see that as a sensible move on your part, and not weak.
The next step though, is to stop declaring that you are ignoring him and really and truly *ignore* him :>
-

Well it did, but then lacking your t'internet experience I had to fully go on the troll ride to understand it. Perhaps I'll get trolled again, who knows, but I will probably reach the realisation that trying to reason with them is pointless much earlier now.
Can I ask you honestly, since you seem to differentiate between internet culture and 'real' culture: which format do you prefer?
-
can't beat the internet when you're bored at work!
at the end of the day though real life is well...real...and the internet mostly puts you.in contact with a lot of weird people, or people from the kind of social sub culture you avoid in real life because their.views are inimical to your own, OR annoying trolls hiding behind their anonymity
interestingly though, the line between real life and online has been diminishing rapidly over the years, and anonymity is.become harder and harder to hold on to
that's why I think free speech type forums are something to be cherished, incidentally, as I don't think they will be around much longer
-
Can I ask you honestly, since you seem to differentiate between internet culture and 'real' culture: which format do you prefer?
There's no differentiation. Just like life, this forum has a bit of everything to offer - you only simply need to look at other sub-forums and/or thread titles. Stick with what appeals to *you.* One might point out that how we carry ourselves online is a reflection of our reality. I'd agree to an extent. Some reveal more of themselves in the forums than they may in-game, or vice-versa, but in 99% of the cases if you meet them, regardless of what you see of them on the internet, I bet you'll find most are civil and polite within their own character.
While flamers and trolls can be found anywhere, including in person (hello gossips and busybodies?) bear in mind you are also on a unique website for an awesome game revolving around <cough> air combat in WW2. This involves blowing up stuffs. And ranks and scores. Egos everywhere! Including your own. :joystick:
I'd rather see people arguing about their mad cartoon pie-let skillz than politics and other useless stuff. Now, when people start to get personal... ehhhhh... i.e., when they step outside of the confines of the game. This is why throughout my long history of "smack talk" I have ever only been auto muted maybe a handful of times, and received a week radio ban *once* and wrongly imho but, meh. Don't think I've ever been forum hammered.
Actually, if you knew my flying better, you'd see I'm having a dialogue with midway pretty much how I fly, both reactive to miscues and manipulating those to a desired target solution. :noid
But of course, you have most of the convo on ignore. I'm fine with that. I'm with Coombz on the issues, which is why I felt I could give my perspective.
<edit: mutters about Generation ADHD and their insatiable desire for instant gratification.> :old: :neener: :bolt:

That's one of the very few times I've used that cheers smiley. :uhoh
edit: And did you know I was probably a contributing factor to the establishment of ch. 200? :noid :bolt: At least it's optional, right? :aok I personally always squelch ch 1 and 6 when I log in, so I never see (or give) faux salutes - I toss out a smiley instead or "fun." And not seeing ch 6 landed msgs frees up a lot of buffer. :t I'm all for being able to de-tune *any* and all channels - how many times I've wished I could squelch range or country? But at least now you can drag the text box below sightline when you don't want to be engaged. ;) My high point as a smack talker was way back when I received an email from Pyro iirc (this was when skuzzy was still with HTC's isp at the time) asking me to "tone it down and stop upsetting people." Know the term I had been using? "Dweeb(s)" Awright, time to find a new word, hmmmm? :noid  :bolt:

:lol I'm just trying to get a fight out of him... and it's working... met him in the MA today, his spit8/9 'gainst my -1hog, and he fought like he was trying to erase a bad memory from occurring... Of course, he still HO'd on the first pass, and would have any other pass, but I'm not new to dodging those when I know they're coming... but he did fight with all the spunk that I could expect from a trainee... and hell, I'd rather have a lil dog biting my ankle, than humping it! :aok
