German heavy SP anti-tank gun. Essentially an 88mm Pak 43 mounted on top of a Panzer III/IV hull (Panzer IV chassis, Panzer III upper hull, IIRC).
Armor was 25mm on the front plate, or 15mm on the casemate/gunshield. Armor was even thinner on the sides and rear, with no top armor. Extremely vulnerable as you can imagine. However, it packs one hell of a whallop, same as the Tiger II. It would be second only to the Jagdtiger, which is extremely unlikely to be added any time soon, if at all.
Now, the reason why we should add this? Its a fairly unique vehicle, that would offer a play style different from that of any other vehicle in the game. Where as the M18 is fast, reaonably armed, and very vulnerable, the Nashorn will be average speed, very heavily armed, and very VERY vulnerable.
Playstyle would likely center on ambush and long-range engagments. If you want to get up close and smack someone in the face for a guaranteed kill, I'm sure it would work, you'd just run the risk of losing perks (not a chance in hell this thing would be free, since the M18 is perked).
Additonally, it gives us a chance to test out turretless TD's in a way the M3 GMC doesn't allow us to do, since it lacks the firepower and optics of a real TD. And think about it this way, even if the turretless TD's turn out to be a flop overall, this will still have a niche as a cheap, effective, but vulnerable heavy-hitter. Sort of like the Firefly, large potential, but more difficult to use properly.

+1,
I like the Vehicle, the animation of the gun would be awesome.. One of the older playstation games I have, has it, in a Real Life Scenario.. 3 Rinos have to face a Horde of T34's and KV1's.. In the snow, at night, with starshells popping overhead.. Battle actually happened, if you miss a shot, you get overrun.. The ultimate Tank Sniper vehicle..
Chassis can also be used for the Hummel..
I favor the STUG for 1st SP gun added tho.. Just because there were more STUGs than Tanks..

This is # 34 on the list of gv's to add. There are a whole host of tanks or TD's that are ahead of it. For AFV's w/o a turret, the StuG III and Su-100 would take priority, imo. :aok

PLEASE POST THIS LIST, SIRAH!

It would have to be perked pretty high, which is odd for such a vulnerable unit. The reasoning is that a cheap unit capable of easily killing an expensive unit from long range would have a major chilling effect on the use of those expensive units.
The Nashorn is a unit of extremes, but its perk price would need to be based more on its extreme strength than its extreme weakness, not be balanced between the two.

Imagine a 50 perk vehicle being killed by a strafing D3A. :devil

I think the 20-25 perk range would suffice. An he round would smoke her if it landed close by, not to mention snailman quip on the vulnerablility of it

I disagree. Some of the visual modeling already exists, as does the weapon. And considering that it will always be useful as a Tiger hunter, it makes the Nashorn superior to the Su-100 for the first turretless TD.
If we had already had another, then yes. But the dynamics of the game play might make the Su 100 near useless. And it wouldn't have that niche to fall back on.

Why are you making a wish thread for a game you don't even play? :headscratch:

T'was wondering the same.

Nice looking vehicle, heavy punch but vulnerable. Don't forget the Jagdpanther - same gun but in fully armored environment.
BTW - modified Panzer IV chassis with some drivetrains components from Panzer III, engine moved forward so the gun could be mounted on the rear. Chassis of this so-called Geschützwagen III/IV was indeed also used for the Hummel.

I got on for a month back before teachers started cramming for finals. And we have a rather large senior project to do.
I'll probably be back around June.

Is the senior project "debate?"

Nope, 12 page paper related to a potential career, 15 hours of job shadow in that field, a trifold on our project, and a presentation to community and school board members.

Do you go to college or even a tech school? Not a single school district in my state has to do anything as complex as that for a senior project.
-
Nope, Washington is just stupid about high schools. Actually, this state is stupid about pretty much everything.

+1 to this perk cost, and the addition of the Nash!

Our school had to conduct Senior Interviews. Which was pretty cool to be honest. But very extensive.

I have to write a 100pg history masters dissertation, which is killing me :( it's on 8-9c CE Byzantine military history in particular military manuals and there historical relevance with emphasis on the taktica of Leo VI

The +'s to perking a vehicle that can't take prolly even mg fire makes me :headscratch:
I can't imagine any scenario where I (at least) would waste perks on a vehicle that if I missed my first shot I'm ded. Just because it can kill anything doesn't make it perk worth to me.
Why would you use this vehicle if you were to lose the ~same amount of perks as a Tiger I? Think most would just use the Tiger and be able to stand a chance...
My .02 anyhow.
Would be fun to see more gv's though.
I don't even see why a Jagdpanther/tiger or elefant would be perked. It would be difficult to maneuver and difficult to survive beyond the first hit, not to mention slow and very little rotation of turret, if any depending on vehicle. But would like to see TD's added.
Even add self propelled guns, would make airfield/town captures have a bit of flavor; Wespe, Marder, Hummel...

This thing would be worthless in AH. It would be better for HTC to add in something like the Su-100 or StG III if they are going to experiment with non turreted AFV's.
-
Lol, loon, do you gv much? This thing would be second only to the Tiger II at long range sniping. Screw the weak armor, thats why you shoot and scoot or snipe.
No TD save the Jagdtiger or elephant could complete in a stand-up fight with any of AH's heavy hitters. The nature of the turretless TD makes it an ambush weapon as well. Just as the M-18 has a unique play style, so will the Nashorn.
As to the Su-100, more armor, worse field of fire, worse firepower. Used properly, it will be inferior to the Nashorn by a considerable degree.
Please, just because you don't want it doesn't mean it's useless by any stretch of the imagination. To say so is simply ignorant in the extreme, and out of character for you.
-
Ehm, its nice and stuff, but the world's biggest army ever is represented by two variants of one tank...
What about the Su-85, Su-100, KV-1, KV-85, IS-1, IS-2/'44? And yea, theese are only ideas as im a luftwheenie and definiately not a russian expert, but still.
-
Unfortunately, the ground doesn't have any real effect on vehicle movement in AH..
If it did, those super heavy tanks wouldn't be quite so enjoyable to mess with..
The Rino Puts the L71 on a fairly light chassis, they had good mobility in most conditions..
Crews liked them, and Russians feared them.. They could kill from ranges, from which they couldn't even be seen! And with a single inch of armor, that was the point of the matter..

I would like to see German assault guns in the game like the Stug III Stumgeshult IV & Hetzer 38. These were the most numerous armored vehicles in the German Army in WWII. I am not to interested in the super assault guns like the jagdtiger sd.Kfz 186 we have uber tanks in the game. Even the Panzer MK III F would be nice.
-
Debrody, R 105, please remember that this wouldn't be the only TD we add. And if the whole idea is a flop, the Nashorn will still have a use as emergency heavy firepower, and as a sniper.
Most others wouldn't have that, possible exceptions being the SU-100, and the Jagdpanther, but those would be higher perked, and the fact that they have some armor will inevitably lead people to depend on it. Thus they wouldn't be representative of most TDs we would add.
The Nashorn, however, would be forced to play the ambush game whenever it's not sniping, which would be more of the play style seen by most TDs.
-
Greetings,
Start slow - Marder, 75mm, little armor. Lets see how it works.
Regards,
Mole

Hehehe, to many people from Calif. moved up there. Alaska is going the same way, and they are starting to infiltrate Texas. :D

Really curious why you think these need to be perked. If it can't take a hit why would anyone want to spend perks on these.
I'm all for them and as I already mentioned the self-propelled guns (SPG) would be great for sacking towns at distance. Not akin to true artillery as their effective range would be about the distance from the usual spawn point. We have artillery from the sea, why not from vehicles? The rockets on the M4 are about as close as that comes and are kinda pathetic. Pathetic because it takes away any ability to defend yourself from aircraft. SPG's I don't believe were accurate enough to say pinpoint the ack on a base, not do I believe they would be hangar killers anymore than a cv's 8/5"ers (probably quite less.)
-

Because its gun would kill anything in the game.
-
so... so basically the Nashorn has the same main gun as the King Tiger but with no turret, has armor less than the Sherman M4, and an open top to make for an easy kill for Ki-43 Oscar. Did the Nashorn even have an MG for anti-infantry/anti-airacraft use???
:headscratch:
I think HTC could put their resources to better use introducing the StG III, Su-100, SdKfz 251/9, Puma, Valentine, and a host of other AFV's.
-
Yes, but the mg wasn't fixed to the vehicle.
And it was a highly successful TD. Heavy firepower, good visibility and gun traverse, good mobility. It was fantastic out on the Russian steeps.
So no, you couldn't slug things out with a Tiger. Or even an M8. But who cares when you don't have to? Much better to finish things with a single round from hiding than to trade fire.
And two of those you listed are a ways below the Nashorn on any list you could make. You don't want it, but its not like it's undeserving.

dammit! I wanted to live up there! Guess virgina will suffice

Nashorn +1 then Elephant tank of course the 200mm of frontal armor it would be more heavily armored than the KT lol and maybe add the IS or some other Russian heavy or TD like the SU100 or SU122 or SU85 just a guess
