Invisible plane. No credit for killing me.
There's no one in this film to accuse of a hack. There is a Spit 200 yards in front of me (that I'm chasing). I thought maybe it was a boat that hit me (nope), or debri (nope), or friendly fire (nope). It's a shot from behind, from the air . . first one hits my wing, next one takes my tail off.
WTF?

Who got the kill credit on you? Was it the player you saw in front of you in that film?

What's your PCs specs??
-
If there was a larger than normal ping time between you and the Spit it is possible that the Spit was behind you on his FE.
-
Was it a friendly in front of you and you killshot yourself?
-
Had the spit just recently gone by you, or had you been chasing it from behind for a while?

SYSTEM: BadAngel was shot down by a Klingon Bird of Prey.

Your only real source of clarification is HTC. It's probably a lag issue but THEY can best make the determination. Film would help.
-
If it happened yesterday then It probably was the server. There was moments when everyone on range were saying everyone was warping including the bad guys.
-
Killshooter.
My guess is the Spit was chasing a friendly and his bullets missed the Spit and hit the friendly.
I've done it too.

Would you say the the con you were chasing was less than 2k from the plane behind you were shooting? I wonder where I have seen this before. If the guy behind you had his tracers off you would have never known. What plane has that tracer pattern?
Tho you are missing a gun and the bullet stream seems to be as well. Where's the film?
I'm Shawked,
-
It looks like you shot a team mate. No kill message, no proxy kill, so no nearby enemy. The smoke trails from the shots in the picture are from your own aircraft.
If it was an enemy Spitfire then HTC needs the film, not a screenshot of your aircraft.

You probably shot a friendly. That picture you took is not of an enemy behind you but your own tracers.

Indeed, this looks like it was a death by killshooter, as per the logs.

It appears he's new and may not be aware of "killshooter" or friendly icons. Killshooter is an arena setting that makes any damage you inflict to a friendly aircraft/vehicle get applied to your own aircraft/vehicle.
There are certain exceptions, like manned field guns and bombs, but generally speaking, if you shoot a friendly, you take the damage. This helps prevent players from griefing friendlies.
Enemy aircraft have red icons. If the aircraft you were shooting had a green icon, it was on your side (friendly). When you hit it, you damaged your own plane. On the bright side, you did hit what you were aiming at!
Hope this helps.

Could it be simply a server latency issue. Perhaps in the moments leading up to the kill, the difference between server and local computer was just enough to killshoot YOURSELF.... :headscratch:
That'd be the first thing i'd think of given the circumstances... Very odd. Would only worry about this if the ol' invisible plane kept killing you. :airplane:
Otherwise, I'd just chalk it up to a bug in the system. One off = frustrating, pattern = bug/glitch

Yes, there is a glitch in offline missions which can cause a plane to be invisible. But Skuzzy mentioned the logs, so this must have been online.

Snarky remarks were expected.
Fair enough, I am relatively new, and "killshot" is a plausible explanation. Re-reviewed.
Note : There is a friendly above me diving, who eventually gets in front of me, but that's not where the shots from unidentified firing object (UFO) are coming from.
Here's the first shot(s) from UFO. They hit water beyond Spit bandit.
I'm not even close to firing on the F4 friendly in front of the Spit (almost 90 degrees?). Teach me how to do that shot and I'll give you money. Spit's fire just took off F4's wing, and it's why I thought it might've been debris from F4, and eventually debris from Spit, but the UFO fire happened first.

Thats what happened, you hit the tail of the brew, you lost YOUR tail, thats how it works. If you had hit the the brew in the wing YOU would have lost a wing. What ever damage you "cause" (cause is quoted because if you shoot a friendly you do NO damage on him) to a friendly plane YOU will actually receive the damage, NOT him.

Thank you for your conclusion.
However, the Brew took fire in both wings and body. Brew did not lose a tail.
It is possible I hit the Brew, but the angle of my fire says otherwise in the pics I posted. Additionally, the angle of incoming fire from the unidentified, is different from my angle of fire.
Additionally, I was only hit in one wing with a single bullet (no damage) from the unidentified (conflicting with the burst the Brew got hit with). And, as I pointed out, the unidentified fire was coming before the Brew was even in front of me.
Just trying to answer : WTF?
If I shot myself down, does the system tell me that? Because it didn't. I'm not a good shot, but if you're telling me I hit things where I'm not shooting, or where my bullet trails aren't, then I need to know how to make adjustments for that.
Was there was a plane (or planes) beyond visible range (whatever that is in the arena), not in the film, and that accurate? Are you kidding me? Then why didn't they get credit for the kill?

If you shoot a friendly plane YOUR plane takes the damage. As far as where you hit and how it hits, the graphics are not perfect. They are a close approximation. Skuzzy has already posted that he checked the logs and you DID shoot a friendly and so shot yourself down.
As far as aiming, check into the training arena. They have a lead computing gun site set up in there (2 plus signs, one each for main guns, and secondary guns). You will be very surprised at how much you have to lead a plane to get hits. Remember also that bullet drop is setup in the game as well so you have to aim a bit high as well as lead your target.
-
Skuzzy has already posted that he checked the logs and you DID shoot a friendly and so shot yourself down.
He checked the logs . . pfft. If I shoot a friendly in the training room it shows up in my kill list, so that's like saying the sun came up today.
I sent the film.
It's possible I shot a friendly and just can't determine that in the film. However, it doesn't explain, from my view, the first shot from the "whatever", because that shot didn't hit me. Nor from what I could tell, did a lot of the fire from the "whatever". It's there because my fire was near a friendly? And from what I could tell, even when I wasn't firing? I can hear the snarky comments already, "But you were thinking about it!"
Those who want to blame this on lag, if that's case, Aces High needs to quit referring players to look at the film -- because they're useless. What these players are saying is that lag is embedded in the film too? Please.
Again, it was a WTF?
Cheers.
-
You can't shoot a friendly down in the training arena so no kills would show up at all.
From looking at your screen shots it does look like kill shooter. As Skuzzy states:
Indeed, this looks like it was a death by killshooter, as per the logs.
And the Brew took the fire from you. You took the damage.
-
If you want it figured out post the film otherwise we can assume you're entire post is meant as nothing more than a slam against the game and not an honest question about what happened.
I can add all sorts of effects to a screen shot and post it to elicit whatever responses I want from the community.

That's exaacty what happened and the tracers coming from behind him are his own smoke and ejected shells he's already flown past.

The other good part about the film viewer is that you can see who else was close, what speed, what alt, etc....
Take a look, and see if anyone else was close enough to shoot at you, or if it was just you three.

There is no friendly fire in Aces High. If you hit a friendly aircraft, like you hit the Brewster, that plane takes no damage. Your plane takes the damage the friendly plane should've taken.
I don't see the phantom shots you''re talking about. Keep in mind that tracer trails are static and that the gun is moving at 250 mph or whatever, so immediately after you take the shot it appears to be behind you. Maybe there is something that we can't see in the low resolution JPGs you posted though.
There is no special message for when you killshoot yourself. The game just says you crashed.
-
Take a look, and see if anyone else was close enough to shoot at you, or if it was just you three.
Not that it matters, but there were four planes. When this first started, LA friendly was pointed up at the sky in a loop, so I didn't mention him, and I don't think he ever fired. At the end, he was still trying to get into position, and that's not where the fire was coming from.
I tried figure it out, re-looked it after killshot was brought up, sat in everybody's cockpit, watched fire at slow speed . . doesn't explain it.
Maybe there is something that we can't see in the low resolution JPGs you posted though.ed.
Trails are coming from the same distant place, and visible (to me) in the pics I posted, but I don't know what it looks like on somebody else's computer.

As to other comments, I don't know why sometimes friendlies I'm playing with in the training room show up as recent kills, and they can refute it all day long, but it doesn't change it. They do. You can force a friendly to crash by shooting them in the training room (under certain circumstances), because it can move them, either to dip their wing into the ground, or into a stall at top of a loop, etc., and maybe things like that are "logged" as a kill when they crash. I don't know. I only know this because I'll go into another arena and there's some Joe Bob from the training room in my recent kill list. So then . . are they in "the logs" as friendly fire? I'll bet I have a lot of friendly fire in "the logs". Therefore, somebody looking in "the logs", seeing I had friendly fire, is meaningless. There's no standard to apply that to. For them, maybe, because they don't go in the training room, or experience this (or don't know how to kill friendlies there).
-

First off there are no logs of the TA available to the players of AH. So I'm not sure how you can say that kills of friendlies show up as recent kills by you. I have seen on one rare occasion where you would get the kill message, but that was an improper arena setting that was quickly remedied. I'm sure that it is possible that it has happened again, but as soon as it was noticed by a trainer I'm sure it would be fixed in a timely manner.

I wish I still had the films from when I first started AH a few months back from an exact same friendly fire incident as you had. My film showed exactly what you saw with the same mystery tracers and then I was towered. I thought it strange as you thought in your situation, It was a squad member that I hit and he sent me his film. From his film, in slow motion, it was clear, I was hitting my squad mate and got towered for it. The mystery tracers were gone.

Sik... There is what appears to be a bug that I have noticed in the past related to what the OP is expressing here. When you check your scores in the MA where it shows your "Last Kills" and "Last Killers", the "kills" you get or recieve in the TA show up here. They are likely proxy kills. I know this because when training in the TA with BigRat and he flys me into the ground (which happens quite frequently :bhead) and I check my scores later in the MA, It shows Last Killers, BigRat BigRat BigRat Bigrat BigRat BigRat

Well that is a bug then. The TA shouldn't be linked to the MA's at all. I'm kind of surprised no one has brought this to HTC attention sooner. Wizard are they proxies, or did BigRat shoot you then you crashed? I didn't think proxies were recorded is the reason I'm asking.

How about a system message saying "player 1 has shot himself down".
It happens seldom enough that it wouldn't clog up the buffer.

It's safe to assume my hog has plenty of bullet holes in it from him when I crash. :joystick: I just assumed they were proxies since the damage model is turned up so high in the TA, but now that you mention it, that is more likely. It happens so many times during each session, it's hard to know for sure though. :lol

I agree Sik1 it is a bug and needs to be looked at! Since I never check my score or stats, guess you have to have some to check...... :noid I've never seen this before.
I certainly hope that Skuzzy points this out while he's recommending a killshooter message!
It seems Badangel is getting jumped on and it's not really called for,he's new and still learning the basics of the game,oh how we all too some forget that we were once new and didn't have all the answers. If players are wondering why the numbers are dropping, they only need look at how some treat others.
If you're not part of the solution then you're part of the problem! All players need do is take these new guys at face value and help then out. Badangel obviously doesn't understand how the killshooter works and add in the bug that logs kills in the TA and it's no wonder he couldn't figure out what happened. Then when tries to find an answer he gets jumped on and called names.........

Agreed Morf, it is clear that Badangel doesn't understand what's going on with kill shooter, and it's only compounded by the fact that he is seeing kills from the TA in his stats. Like you I never check my score, and on top of that I don't fly in the MA enough to have a score for most tours. I had to look for a tour that I flew in when I was checking what Wizard was telling me, and I either didn't get anyone to crash after putting rounds in them in the TA, or it wasn't present in tour 158.
As for a kill shooter message I vote for something along the lines of "doh, you just kill shot yourself."

He's flying in a main arena. He lit up the friendly Brew that you see in his screen shot on page three.
Skuzzy already commented on it on page two.
Indeed, this looks like it was a death by killshooter, as per the logs.
-
I could be wrong but the way I read some of the comments it sounds like there is some confusion about the different arena settings. If you're in the early, mid, or late war main arenas then killshooter is ON, any hits on a friendly aircraft will double back and inflict damage on the shooter. But it is an arena variable that can be turned off, so it is disabled in the training arena as well as some custom arenas and special events.
if you don't have web space to host the film I will offer to take a look and see if I can see anything that might explain it. I don't have access to any of the logs or anything like HTC does but I'm happy to take a few minutes and see I can see anything and discuss it with you via PM. Feel free to send me a private message here on the boards and I will send you my email address.
W/out looking at film we're all just sort of guessing.
-
In the attached image, from your film, you will see a view looking back from in front of Max (the Brewster). Your plane is in the background, and you see your fire hitting Max on the wing. From this point, you continued to hit Max's plane across the entire wing and fuselage. I did not bother counting the hits, but it was numerous.
Once you did that, your plane was damaged beyond salvation and your tail broke off when you tried to pull up from the stall you suffered almost immediately after this.
This is the result of the 'killshooter' flag in the arena. It is also fair to note, not all arenas have this flag set. The Training arena does not have this flag set.

Well, I started in AW at the age of 35. I reckon I was much less rash, excitable and paranold both then and when I transitioned to AH. I realize some of the new customer base apparently requires a great deal more patience and understanding than they, themselves, are capable of. I have a 14 yr old stepson. It's much the same.
