I have got to say, I never thought I would be doing this, but I need to vent lol. Seems as no matter what I cannot get ahead, money comes in and goes out way too fast. I have been way stressed over money the past year, seems like everytime I get ahead a little something goes wrong and sucks everything out. My family insurance got cancelled on Oct 1, so now I have to find another insurance. I had another job offer but it is a dollar less an hour with no overtime, but they offer insurance. I cant afford to take any reduction in pay as we BARELY survive as it is. There is absolutely no work close to me, oh wait........for 10 an hour, how does somebody live on that????? cuz this cowboy sure isnt going to :lol I know I am not the only one going through this crap, but I needed to vent and everyone here seems decent enough to listen. :salute sorry for the rant

Dude...10 an hr is better than zero...plus insurance..... it doesn't mean you have to stay there..but being in a funk won't help with the mind set for interviews either....
your mind needs to be positive to achieve positive results...hard I know when it seems like everything is kicking you in the teeth...but living with that attitude of I'm not going to take that amount I'm worth more and not earning at all because of it will just cause more frustration....it means you are flexible though...cause you can kick your own teeth.....
take the money...look for more...if you get sick..(being down mentally will lower your immune system too) you have no cover.
Keep positive and know it will get better.

been there for a while homer but life has taught me. Keep fighting, keep fighting, keep fighting, eventually you'll win.
PS.. miss you guys. I need to make it a point to be around much more often even if I'm not a pixel pilot anymore :)

there's always money to be made as long as you're willing to do what no-one else will.

Never quit, always keep hope.
Could be worse, it'll get better :aok
We all go through trials and tribulations
Best Wishes.

Thanks guys, just seems that there is no end in sight. the wifes job has stiffed her out of pay for the last 2 months, so as of lately I have more going out then coming in :bhead :bhead

How can your wife work for 2 months with out pay?
After 2 weeks I'd be spending more time looking for a new job than working for nothing. The pay would be the same.
Must be a heck of a job.....when they are paying of course.
Hang in there. I have been laid off twice in the past couple years. Was out 6 months the first time, 3 the second. Changed career the second time (at 55 years old) and have been working/learning strait for 6 months here in central Mass. Finally starting to settle down now.
My brother in law was working for a company and just had to leave after 15 years because he couldn't get insurance thru them (had insurance thru wife, she changed jobs and new insurance was about the same as her pay so they didn't take it) he got a job at a large trucking company doing local runs to get the insurance there. Obamacare has added so much to the trucking company bill that they are cutting out any spouse that can get insurance were they work to save money. So now it looks like it would work out better for my sister to QUIT working. :rolleyes:
Yup we got some winners run things now don't we? LOL!
-
hahaha yeah a heck of a job, I have been trying to get her to quit, I mean the first week I didnt get paid I would say see ya later :lol her employer is her " friend" ya we have had several big fights about it. There just is absolutely no work close to here unless you have umpteen million years experience in whatever. yeah the insurance situation sucks, my family plan got dropped on 10/01, and cant afford the obamacare, AND make too much for any assistance with it.
-
Homer I just got a good job after four and a half years of digging ditches. I got laid off from a good job in 2008 and after loooking for three months settled into manual labor at age 50+.
I thought the job was going to kill me at times and I was miserable, but I had to do what I had to do. Finally two months ago a good job came along and things are much better in pay and job satisfaction.
Hang in there man it will pass. :salute

right on shifty :aok I have been trying to get into the oilfield for 2 years now, the pay is awesome, get 6 months off a year, and rigs have always fascinated me. But dang its hard to get in.

If you would consider moving to Canada, there are tons of companies looking for people in Fort McMurray in the oil sands. Most jobs are 6 days on 6 off, with 12 hour shifts, and about 1 hour travel from town, or 15 minutes if you live in the camps, which are pretty nice. Average starting take home is around 6$k clear per month, at least, with half your days off like I said.
If you would consider moving, and believe me, it's very cold up there, but it's not THAT bad, and the city is like any other really, I could email you some places to apply that'll have you working inside of a month, so long as you don't have major felonies on your record that would keep you from crossing the border.
They have a manpower shortage up there, as always, and you would likely make more than any other time in your life unless you were in the 6 figure range already.
Just something to think about if you get desperate I guess. A friend of mine is a manager/hiring officer with Canadian Dewatering. All new guys do there is sit in a warm/cool truck and once an hour get out to check some gauges on a water pump for the first couple of years. They take home 5$k a month easily, and have the easiest gig in the place.

In the UK we have state insurance for all which is in the US a touchy subject :old:
Money wise we are in the same boat :old:
As long as you are well and have your family and they dont perk the Yak3 it will turn out all right in the end :)
-
oh wait........for 10 an hour, how does somebody live on that????? cuz this cowboy sure isnt going to :lol
Well since my wife had three strokes I changed jobs to be able to spend more time with her, I had to go to retail so now I only dream of $10 per hour. So "lol" all you want about people having to survive on that but keep your pity party to yourself, some people have it a lot worse than you do. Oh and out of my low pay I also pay for insurance for both of us.

Life is tough all over. I work two jobs seven days a week to make ends meet. I take two online classes every 9 weeks at ERAU in an attempt to provide a better standard of living my wife and myself. There is absolutely no guarantee of a pay-off and I know this.
We live in a 300 square foot apartment because we cannot afford to buy a home or rent anything bigger or newer here along the I-83 corridor between Baltimore and Harrisburg. My wife graduated from University of Phoenix this past February with high honors and a Master's of Business Administration with a Healthcare Concentration. We thought it would be our ticket to finally having some disposable income. It wasn't. She has been out of work since April of 2012 and an uncountable amount of resume submissions later she was finally able to land a 20 hour a week job as an office coordinator for a local chiropractor this past July. She makes 880 bucks a month ...that's right ... A MONTH before taxes and we have over 95K in student loans to pay back. Every place we apply to from Pinnacle Health in Harrisburg to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore and every outfit in between all say she is either "overqualified" or too inexperienced depending upon the position applied for.
We don't have smartphones or data plans. We rarely, if ever, eat out. We pinch every penny and we spend Saturday morning clipping coupons before I head off to job #2 at 12pm and then I'm off again to work on Sundays after church. I am on here playing for $15 a month only because she has this part time job and she insists that I finally do something recreational that I enjoy after years of doing nothing except work and school. But I still feel guilty for spending the money every time I log on.
We are both white, middle-aged and Christian and we are both veterans. She was in the Army and I was a Marine. So the stereotype that only the young and the minorities are struggling these days is a media induced illusion.
Welcome to the real world. Please survive your stay. :salute

Great to hear Shifty... I'm happy for you. I've been looking for 18 months now. It will happen for me hopefully soon. Till then I just have to nut up and roll with the punches.

Worked for the largest airline in the country, two toldlers and the wife pregnant with number three, got furloughed, sold the homestead and took work out of state in the same line of work at lower wage.
I am confident if your willing to move, which I was, you can find work. I will move tomorrow if it happens again.
I understand many cannot move for whatever reason but for me this was/is not the case, keep positive, keep all your options open, never give up, your tide will turn.

There's a small workshop in my neighbourhood who used to accept even the smallest subcontract jobs that their competitors despised. Now the others struggle while this one has the calendar full for a couple of years with long term subcontracts. It paid to be humble and do what was offered and available. If you're among the best in your branch your skills will surely be noticed and rewarded sooner or later. If you aren't and don't even want to be, that's your choice - also economically. Also, the best doesn't necessarily mean what first comes into mind, being the ultimate performer. It's a combination of professional ability, flexibility, spirit... Choosing a photo model is a good example. It isn't the best looking one that would get the job, it's the one that is the nicest to work with that gets it.

I will pray for you all :pray

Homer,
Remember the conversation you and I had about pipeline work? Let me know if we need to revisit it.
Lets face it - NH is dead. There is zero industry there that anyone wants anything to do with.
Right now I travel all over the world teaching guys how to fly. I do that because that's what is required to get paid.
You need to start thinking about being home less if you want better opportunities.

I thank the good Lord every day he made me mechanically inclined and I had the good sense to buy good tools early on in life. A mechanic is never without work. I haven't punched a time clock in almost a year, but I make as much money in 2 days at home in my own garage than I did working for someone else.
Buy some tools and do brake jobs, oil changes, water pumps and what not and go from there. I put a water pump in a minivan today for 100 bucks........it took me 3 hours. In the morning (monday) I'm going squirrel huntin'. :aok

You have to be treated in the USA even if you can not pay. Working stiffs pay for those who are deemed unable to pay.
Where the money has to go is the real deal. Most health care money goes to the insurance companies not to doctors.
Yes you pay the doctor, hospital, drug dealer and in turn the Doctor and Hospital pay the insurance companies large amounts to feed the corrupt Law Profession. Why don't we have the players set the rules in sports too. :headscratch:
Only in America (or it started here) can you spill coffee on yourself and get a Million dollar check. :rolleyes:

Things are tough all over, bud.
Ebb and flow. Sometimes the tide works with you, other times it sucks you out to sea.
As others have said, sometimes there is a decent living to be made by doing things that others aren't willing to do.

So if you cannot pay your a bad person? :old:
I don't believe I used those words. I think there are some that abuse the system.

You are right I got the facts wrong, closer to 3 million. :aok
The jury awarded Liebeck $200,000 in compensatory damages. This amount was reduced to $160,000 because the jury found Liebeck 20 percent at fault in the spill. The jury also awarded Liebeck $2.7 million in punitive damages, which equals about two days of McDonalds' coffee sales.

i guess we can add 'healthcare' to the long list of things the US is terrible at, along with:
* keeping religious nutjobs out of government
* preventing murders
* the war on terror
* the war on drugs
* not having a completely corrupt and screwed up prison/justice system
* stopping religious nutjobs from influencing education
* having worthwhile media outlets
* not being morbidly obese
* winning wars against drastically inferior militaries

the punitive damages were reduced by the judge to 480,000. the parties settled out of court for less than 600,000 before the appeal verdict was read.
and to think that she had asked before hiring a lawyer to pay her actual medical expenses and her loss of income for a total of less than 20,000 but she was offered 800 bucks by mcdonalds.

McDonalds did nothing wrong that's why it was reduced. Thus they owed her nothing for her mistake. They did not spill the coffee on her. They handed her a cup with a lid. She opened it as they pulled away and the driver stopped to allow her to add the sugar and cream. The accident was totally their fault. The Deal was done in private so we will never know but I'm sure Her mistake cost more than a Million to McDonalds with lawyers fees ect. In hindsight perhaps they should have accepted the $20,000.
Anyway the point I made that some ignore as they add their trivial comments is still valid that common sense and efficiency is lacking in many areas leading to the economic downturn the world is seeing. Please get back to the problem this thread addresses or post your own.
