This is a film of a fight I had with a P-39. I felt it was a clean angles fight but the other fella felt I made repeted HO attempts, I would like honest opinions onmy fighting ettiquet, and also constructive critisism on my skill so I can improve as I ahve just recently returned from a 4 year hiatus. At first I ignored the P-39 and went for a couple C-47's because the P-39 wasnot a serious threat, when the P-39 became a threat I engaged and what followed was a very fun fight. The other stick was superiorto meand would have won had he been in an equal airplane, but he wasnt and I won.

Thank you.

A HO shot requires flying straight at each other. You were both in max turns so no HO.
You're giving the bandit shots at you because you're usually going for a quick shot instead of flying to position for a good shot. Granted the kill shot was lead pursuit to a crossing shot but early in the fight you would have benefited from lag pursuit, pointing your nose behind the bandit, and flying to a position behind him for a tracking shot. This would have given the bandit less opportunity to shoot at you.

A JG"Experten" flying a Spit16 and using it to shoot me in the face like a 2 week nub.
You should be ashamed of yourself, Hot to Hot aspect is a Head On.
You got your deserved death when you fell asleep on the runway.

Let me guess - the P-39 was Dolby?
Yes, face shots are annoying sometimes, especially when you lose them... the simple solution is to turn around and get shot in your 6.

good analysis but ur missing a point, the p39 has no change to establish a successful lag pursuit here. Spit16 has the acceleration and speed advantaged ... best option here to go for lead pursuit force the spit16 turn into and try to change the fight into a turn fight where you can stay in spit16s turns...
you can try this in game, during a lag pursuit if your enemy is still getting away from you its pretty much useless to continue it. you should either start climbing to close the alt diff. or head other way to get some separation

The advice was for the Spit not the P-39.

Wow Dolby your lack of sportsmanship is shocking, I was respectful to you even through your bashing. Enough is enough, face it you got smoked by a four week nub. Instead of spending your energy crying just practice more. By the way if you care to watch the video you took the same shots I did.

LOL Bluberry!

You are in no place to cry foul sportsmanship when you're face shooting.
Worst of all posting film proving that.
If you're going to carry a tag that says "experten" you could at least fly as if you know something.
Quit wasting people times with your stupidity and lame flight. Go look at Strebenstein, you might learn something.

I think the anguish here comes from flying the brickish type planes and being set upon by "easy mode" planes with no apparent appreciation or concern for the difference in the rides capabilities. Well, life is suffering. I don't think its that unsporting for a new player to get desperate and shooty when flying a spit16 against a p39 with a quixotic pilot of substantive skill. If the new fellow proceeds to crow and trash talk about his achievement, now that is dorkish I would say.
On a related question, is it unsporting when 3 La7 2 Spit16 and 1 Yak3 feel the need to all be shooting at an f4f at the same time?

I agree entirely. In fact I publicly recognized his superior skill and stated that had he been in an equal plane he would have smoked me. I simply wanted opinions from better sticks than me as to whether I took unfair shots. I was called out and flamed on 200 by the other guy simply because I came out the winner, due to my superior plane not skill. I remained respectful as long as I could even while being trash talked. I have watched my film three times and I am certain it was cleanly fought and in fact he took the same shots he attacked me for taking. In the end he put himself in several bad positions and had to run twice as he was out of options. I am not responding to that person in any way anymore at this point because if his terrible behavior here and in the game.
-
You gotta be kidding me, I didn't Head On you, or take your shots, I neither ran out of options.
You can continue to respond, because your position is untenable.

Nimrod, do not get apologetic. There are lucky shots, and stupid shots, and vodka shots, but there are no unfair shots. Don't be humble - you shot down a good player, so congratulate yourself and move on. He will likely shoot you down in the next 9 encounters, but that means nothing - same as your kill meant nothing. Its a game, every player has his day, and good players get shot down too.
Next, either tune out of ch200, or learn to relish the name calling and whines. There are some players from which I absolutely expect a PM or reply on ch200 after a kill. These guys are the best fun. Say "thank you" and give them a salute like a gentleman - some of them will rage even more :)

Good advice Bozon, thank you. Salute

Personally I hate HO shots with a passion. With the exception of the shot at 304 or so you rolled out of a HO more often than not, and you didn't fire on every pass. Granted both of you were basically pulling your noses around for a head on pass but your the one holding your fire.
In the first of the three passes you dove under him, he fired going for the top of your cockpit, second pass you dove under his right wing, he fired, third you dove under him again and he didn't fire. Then he ran to reset and when he turned back you started a slow climb looking to get back on top of him.
The next 4 passes you had 4 crossing type shots but could only get the lead for 2 of them. He then got a good turn on you and you rolled out and got skinny on the next pass as he was coming in firing. The next pass is the one I'd call a HO, but again after 8 or more passes at each other it seemed to be the main move to pull your noses around as close to a HO as you can get. This time YOU fired and he didn't and you tagged him good.
You both made for the head on passes, and after dodging as much lead as he was throwing in all the previous passes I most likely would have taken that shot as well. It looked like it was the only kind of shot he wanted so I would have given it to him.

This is some excellent advice! :aok
I hate when players cry ho.... If it's a John Wayne merge thats one thing, you know where the enemy comes at you head on guns ablazing before the first merge.
After that any shot you get you'd better take it because you might not get another! One mans HO is another mans acute frontal attack........ :devil
Best thing new players can do is detune 200,infact if HTC wanted to keep players around I wouldnt let anyone tune 200 until they have a year or so under their belt!
:salute
PS: disclaimer: Idid not watch the films,I trusted what FLS said as it's typical of new player to only fly their gunsight!

This makes sense to me now after reading yours and Fugatives narrative of my fight. I will focus on trying this. Thank you for the input and advice all. Salute and see you in the MA!

Considering
It looked like it was the only kind of shot he wanted
Don't be so damn silly, you really think a fully fuelled P39 can out turn a Spit16 that has already travelled for 10mins, and that I want Head Ons when I seethe with hatred for them...
I challenge you to produce a screenie of me going for a head on shot to back up this claim.

what he said
There should be a warning while the arena loads about the hazards of 200

Ok so taking the shot at 00:34 kills Dolby, after that lacking the power to go vertical again Dolbys only option is to do pretty much what nimrod was doing turning nose to nose looking for a shot, I don't see any of the shots nimrod taking as being any worse than the shots dolby already took on him.
In terms of advice for Nimrod I would get more comfy with your views and not fly around constantly trying to pull for a shot.
-
The shot at 3:04 is a HO in my book, but this is AH and everyone has their own book so mine doesn't mean squat. Have fun, don't sweat what others think and do what makes you happy. If gaining a reputation as a player that doesn't HO is important, then pass on those borderline shots. If I complained about everytime I was killed by a HO, or if I posted everytime someone else was displeased with how I fought them, it would be a full time job just ranting and posting about rants. Most everyone HOs sometimes and its just a part of the game. Have fun and let stuff like this roll of your back.
I will say that if you want to get better, you could have taken a different approach in that fight. You were having an uninterrupted 1v1 with a good pilot who was flying a lessor plane and flying it well against one of the best planes. Those are the fights you want to savor every minute of - and soak up what he does (and what you are doing) that is allowing him to get shots on you. Thats a great time to hold off on shooting on face to face merges and try to gain his six while taking mental notes.
-
Again more good advice. There were two others coming to the party, a spit and an LA-7 both of which augered trying to get me right after the P-39 went down so time I didn't have , I got credit for the augers as well. I was trying to put the P-39 down as soon as I could so I wouldn't be facing all three enemy planes over their base.
I am going to work on not flying by my gun sight and setting up my position better. If I am understanding right by doing that I will be pulling less violent turns and saving some energy as well, right?
-

It's more of a mind set than anything else. You can follow these two rules:
1. Fight for position first - then go for a gun solution.
2. Don't fly according to where the bandit is now - fly according to where he is going to be!
These are of course just ways of thinking, not the detailed actions. What you do in practice varies a lot depending on the planes and the situation. For example, when I fly the Mossie VI, I fly to set up a brief snap shots - most common, a 90 degree crossing shot. When I fly the F6F, due to the weaker (but high velocity!) .50s and better maneuverability than the mossie, I try to position for a rear quarter tracking shot. So, flying towards a future gun solution does not necessarily mean to saddle up on the bandit 6.
-
bozon, you know those 2 rules you typed out... When will you be following them?
-
bozon, you know those 2 rules you typed out... When will you be following them?
Rules are for the commons, not the rulers.
You need to chill out man. Puff the magic dragon or something.
-
This is a film of a fight I had with a P-39.
Dolby took the first front quarter shots when you didn't have a shot.
You took one fairly close to head on shot at the end of the fight and a couple of front quarter shots before that, but dolby didnt have a shot on you in any of your supposed HO shots.
Like someone else already suggested, after any of those shots he took early on I would call open season on the weeny because I'm not going to play "guess what my HO limits are" with a dweeb.
Fly like everyone is going to HO you and always manuever to avoid the HO, and if they continue to come nose to nose with you take whatever shot you get.

That screen shot shows what I would call a DA HO. In the DA with experienced stick this shot would not be taken because it was 'possible' that the enemy would have been able to get a shot in too. In a duel with experienced sticks it is not required to pull all the way to HO. Both pilots know that a HO is possible and so they have a cold pass purely out of respect.
However, that screen shot does not show a HO shot. The p39 clearly does not have guns on the spit at the moment of that capture. In the MA this would be a pretty standard shot to take. The MA holds little respect for the fight or the opponent but mostly respect for the kill.
Six of one, half a dozen of the other. And what is more important is the surrounding situation. If what nimrod says about two more cons in the vicinity is accurate then I don't blame him for trying to improve his odds of survival with this front quarter shot.
Most importantly, who cares?
-
Yes, I think this is dead issue. I really simply wanted to validate my own belief that I had not taken a dirty shot because I do try not to. That feeling has been validated and I have recieved valuable advice on how to improve. Thank you all for that and I look forward to putting your advice to use.
As for me telling the truth about the other two cons, I am and can provide the rest of the film to validate that fact as well should I be drug through the dirt and accused otherwise by anyone who might be upset by the community verdict of the fight. I had simply cutt out the rest of the fight because I didnt feel it appropriate to share the negative behavior that followed the fight on 200.
:salute
-
I am not doubting your word about the other cons Nimrod. I phrased my reply in that manner because I didn't take the time to watch the film.
-
Most of the cons in the area were C47s
-

I know you werent doubting me, I just knew the other fella would speak up.
Yes there were two C-47's at the beginning of the fight. Then after the fight began a LA7 and another Spit came up, both were comming to the party fast and joined right after my very unhappy original opponent flew infront of my guns.
I've nothing more to defend here Dolby so lay em down your bluff is over.
-
Bluff? The only reason the screenie looks likes like it does is because I was all ready dropping the nose to avoid the head on, but as Titan proved, a determined HO is unavoidable.
As for the Spit he was of no threat to you while he was just starting down the runway at the time you shot me in the face.
I'll look forward to shooting the crap out of you next time your HOing "experten" nub16 gets near me.

Is that English? Whatever, if that's the best you can come up with thanks for proving what everyone already knows. You didn't have a shot.
I was all ready dropping the nose to avoid the head on,
I watched that film from both perspectives. You didnt have that shot because you couldnt pull it and you didnt push your nose down.
As for the Spit he was of no threat to you while he was just starting down the runway at the time you shot me in the face.
Your definition of threat probably changes as easily as your definition of HO.
-
Yes that is English muzik :)
My aircraft wasn't shaking in the turn I could have pulled harder and been a noob, gone for a dead slap bang crash ram but no, I ruddered slightly to the right, eased up on the elevator and rolled off right to.
My definition of HO is a shot that is Hot to Hot aspect. That has never changed.
-
Hmm, starting to smell like a bad egg was left in here to rot :D
Nice fight. Sucks when these L3e7 players can only send some bad words when they get shooted downz. I remember one of the posters in here telling me how I "was a lucky chimp" when he went boom cuz he did something stoopid. Too funny. I wonder if he just needed a diaper change and that was why he was so cranky.
Don't even worry about these cyber heroes, heck, I wish more people would use the report function on them and 200 would be a nicer place to visit. Just detune it, though the more despicable ones will always use private messages to get you back good for daring to shoot their virtual presence down like that. Class acts all. Honestly, how old do you have to be to know its just a game and you should act civilly? :headscratch: It is a shame you can't play a sport or game anymore without people trying to excuse inexcusable behavior as a rational and necessary strategy for them to win or feel good about themselves. :(

There are lucky shots, and stupid shots, and vodka shots, but there are no unfair shots.
May I add this to my sig?
-

I know people are going to HO, but you would think that one of the top players in the game would avoid it and go for the fight more than just a joust right?
I had no less than 5 big name players Saturday that tout "fighting" and there "skills" go strait for the HO. A couple while they winged together going after my lone F4u. :O
It seems the "kill" is becoming more important than the "combat" they talk about. :(
I guess you could add "classless shots" to the list list
-
Nothing gives me more satisfaction than some pony driver pming me that there is no way my 190a8 could ever beat his pony in a fight!!!! You can't tell them anything cause right off the bat they know everything. Fact is, even in AH a 190a8 can out turn a pony on the deck and if the 190 driver knows his plane he is a very deadly adversary. That goes with any plane in the game. Know your plane, it is life just as well is alt and E!!!!! :salute
-
I killed the King of the 51 pickers, ROCKY, last night in a heavy 190a8. Outturned him twice before he dove away. I couldn't catch him at 15K so turned away only to have him turn back and reengage. Two more merges resulted in his attempting HO shots. Before long I grew bored with his HO / extend strategy, pulled the trigger and blew his wing off. ROCKY's skills have not improved since I last encountered him.
-
In a quick scan through this the rational one seems to the the Hoing noob not my words mind you. Dolby if your so good we wouldnt be here talking. granted you were flying a P39 props for that but who takes one up with full fuel? thats just asking for trouble. 16 vs a 39 you shoulda known how that was goin to end before it even happened even a half decent pilot can do that....or should be able to at least. Aint enough of us in this game to get tweaked about some petty crap. Just put the 39 back and no one will get hurt. Hugs and kisses Vudu :D :bolt:
-
Vudu, we wouldn't be talking here if you kept your nose out, but since you want in;
Either go back to improving your videos,Unless you want to 1on1 me and find out how, as you put it, "so good" I am.
Maybe you'll be reduce to calling me a cheat like vinkman did when my PonyD gave his K4 a thrashing.
You're wasting our time typing here bumping this thread.

Vudu buddy, he's all talk. He ran away after vulching me on the runway firght after the fight. Of course the eccuses were handy though. Some of us are all mouth and some of us play the game and try to have fun and be respectfull of others.
-
I hope when we cross paths online Nimrod you will DA me. Hopefully my mouth doesn't chew you up and spit you out.
We both know I didn't run from you after the vulch.

Uh...actually you did, and tried to blame it on fuel. I will fight you any day and if I lose you will see how it is done with class, and if I win I will put my ear plugs in.
-
nimrod it's pointless arguing that point because I could just as easily say you ran from my base when I upped in that 109.
As for class, you wont see me HOing you.

lol sir I can see this is a touchy subject for you and for that I'm sorry.....as for your videos and mine I think it would be fair to say we tend to disagree on how a video should be done and to what end it meets.
While I applaud your ability to use the film viewer, I find your videos to be dry and without any true emotion at least on some of them. You have a very surgical style which may be liked by some but I never had my heart race while watching yours while re-watching a fight that I was in and filmed and then slightly edited it will run just like it did in the fight even knowing the end result....
Now how we went from your fight to my videos is a mystery but this is what i think happened you were lifting a full 39 for a little pick/bait action and got killed now you cry foul. now is that what happened? who knows. Do I care all that much not really...no.
Vinkman has been silly enough to engage my Brewster around 15 times in a 109G2/6 why I have no idea so his skills and prowess are pretty questionable to me, but the guy almost never fails to cry "cheat" when he dies so I'm not impressed. I wont DA you because I want it to kill your soul to die a horrible cartoon death in the MA do I have to prove myself to you like some crazy tribal warrior who is taunting another?.....no. You know why? cause I don't give a damn.
You know why we never meet in the MA cause while your out hunting for dingbats at 10-20K Im at 10 feet in a stuka bouncing off of hills shooting at tanks, in amongst who knows how many people laughing like a mad man as I dodge guy after guy after guy til I run out of ammo and fuel and get set on fire and bail out yelling well it took long enough. But I almost never say it in 200 and when I do heck musta been a hell of a fight. But just as our videos are different our gameplay style, drive and ability to win or lose well is astronomically different. My point is don't be such a whiny little kid when you die lucky you're grown so your mom cant put you in timeout but if you really want we can give her a call and tell her so maybe she can correct your behavior and teach you that sometimes its not all about you and your goofy I want to be the leetest cartoon, K4, 262, pickdweeb, run when the fight turns, hurry up and DA me so I can show my butt to the MA tards, I wont fight there because its a horde and its not fair, you didn't fight per the made up code in my head at this time so I could pull out a win..........crap. Returning to the question by the OP not by any stretch of the imagination was this a fair fight a heavy 39 vs. a Spit16 should be a shutout every time, but if your dumb enough to lift a heavy 39 from a field that might come under attack well shame on you bud cause you're fixing to die.....maybe. i always stress that AH is about personal goals some folks its about shooting red guys anytime, anywhere, anyhow. Some its about maintaining a sense of honor in all fights knowing full well that almost no others will do this and that you automatically place yourself at a disadvantage. and yours? well almost every time I see your name in chat you're crying or thumping your chest about something some superfluous BS, that we as players of this game have to suffer though day in and day out because such is life I suppose and we all have to walk through a little crap everyday I guess. and you might stay outta the 39 I don't think it suits you. Best of luck in your upcoming fights and i just noticed you use tracers.....interesting thought those were a bit useless myself but good luck with that. Your very good not so likable buddy Vudu15 :neener:

Sorry vudu, I just thought you might have something better to do, and pointing you to improving your films was a better option than an essay.
I wish I had realised you were so touchy that you felt the need to write such verbal diarrhoea.
Perhaps next time your making up stories about how each of us fight, time them to coincide with bed time, because this nearly put me to sleep at 11am.
Still I thought you might take me up on a 1v1, as you say I pickdweeb and run when the fight turns, so what threat am I to your ego.
Give your rigor mortised viewers something worthwhile to watch ;)
