Uh goodbye Bluberry.

Did you ever know that you're my hero?
You're everything I wish I could be.
I could fly higher than an eagle,
'cause you are the wind beneath my wings.

He intentionally put something offensive in his signature in order to get himself kicked out.  HTC enforced the rules and gave him the PNG he clearly wanted.  The OP started this thread to call attention to it in order to try to make HTC out as the villain.

When you break the rules you face the ban-hammer, simple as that.  The best way to affect change is probably from the inside using the systems at hand, rather than getting yourself thrown out.  Making HTC out as the bad guys for enforcing rules will likely also get you nowhere but the door.

Well if you want it more in the form of humorous analogy, I'd compare it more to his sticking an appendage (won't say which one) in the tiger's mouth and shouting "bite me".  And then got bit.   :)

Amusing? Perhaps.  Smart? Not so much.

Nice story, but not how things happened. That was a parting message for HTC.
So pretty much suicide by moderator was the way he wanted to go out? That's(to me) pretty selfish in that it put stress on the mods for no reason why not go out gracefully as others have done? I liked Blu but forcing thie issue IMHO isn't a very cool thing to do.

No, I saw the post by the OP 3 posts into the thread that was "rule 4'd", and it was entirely his point to vilify HTC.

Not what happened. He quit before the post.

I was referring to the PNG, as that is what I saw happen.

Before you all do the AoM dogpile thing, I was answering about the PNG.  For the record, I have no problem with Blu or AoM.  He (like many AoM folks) was a good stick and was always respectful to me in game, even when I shot him down.  He also clearly had some artistic talent which should be respected.  It's too bad he quit and decided to fire a parting shot resulting in a PNG.  But I certainly am not going to support any HTC-bashing over it.

Let me say it again. BluBerry quit the game. Mods had nothing to do with it. I never saw his BBS post, it was after the fact anyway.
OK sorry misread it, so he was going anyway and took a parting shot on the way out? Got it, still uncool as it was only meant to incite, still put stress on people still an ungraceful way to go. As I said I liked Blu but taking a 'parting shot' as he did on the way out lowers my esteem of him...just an uncool thing to do when you are leaving anyway. Just my opinion just putting my 2 cents out there not looking to flame anybody.

I doubt it "stressed" HTC at all. I'll be sure to tell him how disappointed you are in him. I wish I had $5 for every parting shot people have taken when leaving over the last 12 years.

You'd be richer for claiming $5 for every one of them that crawled back (given the multiple times involved for many). Just sayin'. It's still the best bar in town. Don't pee on the floor and expect the regulars to cheer.  ;)

No, I saw the post by the OP 3 posts into the thread that was "rule 4'd", and it was entirely his point to vilify HTC.

Never saw the ruled post. Canspecis a really good dude, probably just fed up.

The "customer" is not always right. To do what the people who caused all this to happen didn't act like "customers", they acted like "occupiers". It didn't work out too well.

Obviously ppl want to see it their way, a one way avenue in their minds; most posting in here (disparaging) probably not once ever had a conversation with Bluberry about things he was disenchanted with, specifically the 3 or 4 louder ones.

Gentlemen, Making a good bye thread on a banned user is a little strange but not directly against policy , even though it's intent could very well be a troll. But we have let it continue.

The last few pages have been off topic  and are trying to rehash old issues.

So play nice.

In addition to crossing the line, then yell at HTC because they chose to broke the rules and cross said line.  While it was humorous and funny sometimes, a while back, it seems lately many are doing it for attention.

I think an account should get a number that their account can get 'ruled' on.  So you make a post that violates the rules.. say 10 times, then you lose chat privileges on the BBS for a few hours or days. Getting really old seeing all these rule violation posts.

I only spoke to bluberry twice and he looked like a very cool guy.  I was hoping that as the laws changed around here I was looking forward to go visit him and "smoke a bowl" and shoot the breeze.  I guess eventually I'll find him somewhere somehow.  things just happen like that in the world.  like when I went to my old xo's house to install some closet doors and didnt know it was him but i recognized the 327th hat by the door.

but on the other hand it seems weird to post a thread to say good bye to a guy that cant read anything on this bb.  well, if any of you guys close to him see him, let him know that I really wish the rules were different at my work and I would take him up on his offer someday.

While I'm sorry to see anyone leave, I'm a bit of a convert on this rules thing. Back a few years ago, you see, I too got suspended a couple of times. For a while, I copped a 'tude about it. I did this even though I knew better. I mean, I fully understand the desire HT has to keep this forum open and accessible. The last thing "the enterprise" would want is to sponsor the equivalent of a lowest-common-denominator electronic locker room. So, after two strikes, I got over it, grew up a little about it, and decided that, instead of treating this virtual place as some kind of electronic dumping ground, I'd actually conduct myself here as I do "out there" in the real world.

That seems to work pretty well. I don't want to put words (or anything else) in Skuzzy's mouth, but I get the distinct impression that he allows the rules to bend so long as people are being respectful with each other. I won't cite specific evidence but I well remember a thread in which we were actually talking politics. The discussion was focused on questions of fact... until somebody came in and took a big dump on the whole thing. At that point, Skuzzy had little choice but to storm in, lock the thread, and suspend some offenders. That's a pity - but it wasn't his choice or doing that made it so.

So, while you'll see me sarcastically kid about an "anything goes" forum where porn, drug deals, and profanity are the order of the day, I don't thing that's anything the enterprise should or would sponsor. That's just me doing the reductio ad absurdum for those who want to race to the bottom.

I have no idea what happened, I'm not going to "play along" to try to figure it out. All I'll say is that, we're technically on someone else's property, here. It'd be my property if I owned some share of the enterprise, but I don't. I'm a customer, not a shareholder. Customers can be shown the door. I was given plenty of warning, so I suspect others are probably given similar treatment when they step over the line.

I think with a suspension or PNG they can block your IP or small groups of IP's from your ISP, but many SMF forums it sometimes comes down to the login/cookie etc so far as being able to view a bbs while logged out as a guest.

I think the punishment of not being able to use the bbs handle which other members are familiar with, good or bad, is the real punishment, as with today's tech, and VPNs being available for a few dollars a month, getting to "see" a bbs will always be possible if somebody wanted to try THAT hard.  Like I said, that person's persona is still gone, and IMO that's the payment for a suspension.  It's not like such a user could say "hi, my name is now JerkOff2000, but my old name was XXX", and get away with it for long without being told on.  Persona, gone.
