Title: DCS Bf-109 K-4 is coming soon

The pre-purchase provides both a 20% discount off the retail price and access to the Open Beta coming later this year.

Like previous DCS World titles, DCS: Bf 109 K-4 Kurfürst features a painstakingly reproduced model of the aircraft, including the external model, fully interactive cockpit, mechanical systems, and a Professional Flight Model (PFM). Along the lines of our DCS: P-51D Mustang and DCS: Fw 190 D-9 Dora titles, DCS: Bf 109K-4 Kurfürst places you behind the controls of a powerful, propeller-driven, piston engine combat aircraft. Designed long before “fly-by-wire” technology was available to assist the pilot in flight control or smart bombs and beyond visual range missiles were developed to engage targets with precision from afar, the Kurfürst is a personal and exhilarating challenge to master. Powerful and deadly, the last production model of the only single-engined German fighter to see service throughout World War II, the Kurfürst provides an exhilarating combat experience to its drivers, and a worthy challenge to all fans of DCS: P-51D Mustang.

I think a late-mark Spit of some sort is inevitable if these warbirds prove popular in DCS.

For now there is only a Spitfire Mk V and a Spitfire Mk IX. Barbi now will be able to finally show how inferior the Spitfire was. :devil

Methinks DCS is really starting to ramp it up!   :aok

Between this, the other DCS offerings and IL-2 Battle of Stalingrad I'm getting hopeful that the predicted death of combat flight sims is greatly exaggerated.

Cool! Didn't know that. The Spit IX could be a worthy opponent to the K-4 and 51D if it's a late-war version like our Spit16.

We'll see.  Like as not it will be a 1942 Merlin 61 version.  It is what most games do.  It is why I focus on the Mk XIV in these things, it takes the 1942 option off the table.  That and the Mk XIV simply looks better, much more aggressive.

Spit V is pointless given the 1944/45 stuff they have added.

Agreed, unless they add some earlier other stuff as well.  From what I've read they plan to have dozens of a/c in the WW2 module.  We'll see I guess.

It won't be getting 100/150 fuel, as of now.

Will have to wait and see how an early '44 P-51 does against the late '44 K-4.

The AH Spit16 doesn't have 100/150 avgas either, but is is a match for the 109K. The Spit16 trades a bit of speed for better maneuverability with its bigger wings, but otherwise the two aircraft are nearly identical in performance.

Post by: MiloMorai on September 02, 2014, 08:15:16 PM
I think you had better look up the performance numbers for the 2 a/c.

A Spit XVI was just a Spit IX with a Packard-Merlin engine.
Title: Re: DCS Bf-109 K-4 is coming soon
Post by: GScholz on September 02, 2014, 08:30:39 PM
I know exactly what a Spit16 is, and it is very closely matched to the 109K-4 in AH. Both weigh about 7400 lbs and both have about 1750 hp engines. The Spit trades ~20 mph of speed (at SL) for a lower wing loading, otherwise the performance of the two planes is almost identical.

MH434 (Old Flying Company) is a 1943 model LF.IX with Merlin 66, so its performance is on par with the Spit XVI in AH. The Spit16's Packard Merlin 266 is an American license produced Merlin 66 with only minor differences. The Spit IX in AH is a 1942 model.

Skin is one thing, performance is something else.  Will be interesting to see what they do.

Wasn't the performance of the Merlin 66 pretty much unchanged from 1943 to 1945 on 100/130 avgas? Giving it 100/150 would make it very Uber and is probably not good business for DCS. They're selling each aircraft individually so they need to pick models that are fairly balanced in their WWII setup.

Yep.

But it is just a skin.  Until we know the specs we don't know which engine they are modeling.  Could be Merlin 61, Merlin 63, Merlin 66 or Merlin 70.  Most likely is the 66 for multiple reasons, including the skin, but until they say we won't know.

If one goes by the serial number, it is Merlin 66 powered. The a/c was manufactured in July 1943.

I think the spit 16 out performs the K4 in a 1v1 dog fight AH all day. It turns and rolls much better. It will typically win on the merge because it can loop more quickly while retaining  E than a k4, so even if the K4 goes for the loop the spit could more than likely climb up to make shot. It is much more responsive than the K4, can pull loops much more quickly, and is very quick.

The k4 would have to have more E initially. The only thing the K4 really has over the spit is top speed but other than that they don't really compare in an evenly matched fight.

Can someone please explain to me about this DCS from their perspective. Oddly, I've never heard of it before. Is it online multiplayer too?

Sure, if it were a real airplane, but it isn't.  Because it isn't it means that you can put whatever skin you want on it.  We have that in AH on many aircraft, Spit IX among them.

I agree it probably will be Merlin 66, but that is by no means a sure thing.  They could easily model Merlin 61 and simply skin it like an LF.Mk IX.

I see posts saying the Mk XIV is planned for April, 2015 for DCS.

It's the online play that makes it worth it. It isn't like AH with persistent servers etc. It's more like Il2 online play with many different server running missions etc.

From the look of that picture it's the standard C wing or "universal" wing with two Hissos and four .303 Brownings. The Spit16 in AH has the E wing.

It would be well matched against the 109K, 190D and P-51D if AH's Spit16 is an indication. We'll see. As Karnak said on the previous page the Spit14 is planned for April, 2015.

Can't say I like clipped and bubble canopy Spits.  I'll go with 'Ginger' Lacey's response when presented with bubble top Spit XIVs in Burma, something to the effect of "It isn't a bloody Spitfire."  He rejected the bubble top XIVs so they went to a squadron flying war weary Hurricane Mk IIs and Lacey's squadron got razor backed XIVs.

I agree that is is a different look than earlier Spits, but I still think it is very beautiful, and menacing like a shark. I've never liked the look of the Malcolm hood. It disrupts the lines of the canopy and looks like an afterthought... Which it also was. I've often wondered why a bubble canopy wasn't introduced earlier in Spits like the VII and VIII.

It's not just the graphics that drive up the system reqs.  The flight & physics model does as well.

Impressive....too bad the WWII massive multiplayer sim based on DCS went kaput....tho' I think many people would balk at the full realism settings (i.e. realistic startup, etc).

:O The first game im playing is Mt. Everest, then maybe F1 or Gulf War: Fighter Pilot.  But what about the game Woman,  it may lead to the end of the human civilization.  :bolt:

Better yet the A10C. I still eject on accident several times per session.

Do you use key command? Or click the switches in the cockpit? My GF just got me TrackIR, and boy does that help! DCS is almost impossible without it, at least with the Helicopters I always fly.

The Black Shark is easy mode compared to the Huey. I don't think any of them are real easy especially in simulation mode, but I like it that way. Waiting eagerly for the EDGE update and the K4 to come out of beta and come out on Steam.

If only they had the Hellcat vs the Zeke.  Or the Thunderbolt to blow up trains.  (drool)
AS far as I know we already have a thunderbolt in DCS! But ya know... the better one.  :devil

I got blackshark back in 2009 I believe, and it was awesome. I haven't tried it since 2010 since I lost the CD key for it, but just got UH-1H and Mi-8MTV2. I did the Huey before the Hip... dear god, you speak the truth. After getting used to the Huey and beating the campaign, I just started the Hip last night, and checked 3 times to make sure the realism was turned all the way up because it was so much easier to fly. That Huey is a handful!!!

It may be ugly but I would not want to be on the angry end of it  :)

I love the Huey! I made a trip to Rucker to record them, too. In doing combat in the F-86 I decided to mod one of my backup CH Figthersticks with an aluminum conduit extension and custom pistol grip (ala F-86).

The A-10 doesn't even make my top 10 of prettiest aircraft. It's a lot like the 38, or F4U IMO, interesting to look at, but not particularly pretty.
