What? After watching your film I saw nothing about complaining about assigned altitudes, escorts, what type of planes they may face or how fair it would be. Seems like those guys just took their assigned mission, did their best to hit the target and hopefully make it home. What a concept. :rofl
Unless someone else would really enjoy being CO, I will take the job, but there are more details to be worked out and cast in stone. If the write up doesn't change, we will need 14 pilots for two bomber groups. The 91st, and the 100th BG will each need 7, and if the missions are to be separated, we will need two GL's. From the previous posts, I know Flossy and I will be in, DarkHorse and 1ijac showed interest and maybe CrashOrange. From previous scenarios, Tudza, Joker and Mato were solid, F77 flew as his ability allowed, Swoose and Wingflap did well as walk ons. If we can get those folks back into one of these gorgeous B-17 beauties. plus a couple more, I would be thrilled. This is as good a place as any to be for the bomber thread, so if you, or any of your friend want to be hero's, sign in below, and when registration opens, we'll get you signed in there as well.
Check out the rules here, and if interested, volunteer below. http://electraforge.com/brooke/flightsims/scenarios/201706_BigWeek/rules.html (http://electraforge.com/brooke/flightsims/scenarios/201706_BigWeek/rules.html)

Snoopy, I'm interested in a B-17 formation, but waiting for registration and all the arguing to desist.

I'll be in bombers - only question is do I rep the bloody hundredth or give the Germans the "Rigid Digit"?

Try to keep me away! I would be very honoured to fly under you again. :D I probably won't make it to Frame 4 though as I am away at an Elite: Dangerous convention that weekend.

Slipknt,
Are you going to GL the Bloody 100th?

I'll be on the New England Powwow trail for two of the frames so I guess I'll do the walk-on thing and hope I get a B-17

Alright!
Here's what we have so far.

General Slipknt,
Throw me some pilot names that will be flying with you in the 100th.
HB,
You have two seats left to fill with pilots that can make the four week commitment. All other pilots we will placed on the standby mission list.
If you can get Tudza and Popsman to commit, well then there you have it.
Looking good so far. Let's get some more pilots in here. Well done everybody.
Also gentlemen, if you would mind advising me on what group skin you be flying. :aok

A more appropriately marked 100th BG B17G for the time frame. (http://i152.photobucket.com/albums/s199/guppy35/100th-BG-Temp_zpsthkarusg.jpg) (http://s152.photobucket.com/user/guppy35/media/100th-BG-Temp_zpsthkarusg.jpg.html)

Oh dear. That won't do at all. If the paint shop has time, how about something like Roundtrip Jack for a name (Actually saw a B-17 and crew with that name, but can not relocate it). Any other information will be at your discretion. 91st BG (H)

Nope, but your post makes my point. The point being, design is discussed then there are the whines about what has been discussed ad nauseum, the designer takes it on the chin again, and all for us to "play a game". Just saying it would be fun to fly once with the design as presented with no discussion, as it was done "back then" with no public jabs by anyone.

I usually don't interfere in these types of discussions that haven't really started in this thread yet. But, "positive energy here Allied team". If it's negative just don't respond. Bite on your pride or whatever you have to do. Mainly, just don't reply. Let comments that pick at your sensibilities pass on without comment. I know it's hard... :bhead I have been there a thousand times myself. Just don't do it. Pour that negative devolved reply into something positive to help the Allies win this battle.
The Allies are off to a great start. We can only build something greater from here. Let's stick with it and get these seats filled.
Fourteen B-17 pilots are needed. We have five so far. Where are the rest and who's going out there to get'm?
Com'n Allies our goal is to fill each and every one of the Allied seats with committed pilots. Call in a favor, beat the bushes, bribe your friends with some choice liquors or whatever you need to do.
Let's not only put up a full compliment of pilots, but some well trained and coordinated ones as well.
We can do this. Let's keep it going. :aok

Most all of the material shown below was taken from http://www.91stbombgroup.com/ (http://www.91stbombgroup.com/) web page. Much there to see.
In the U.S. Air Force, a squadron is a tactical unit that is considered smaller than a group. A squadron is also a flight formation. There were four squadrons of the 91st Bomb Group (H) ,The Ragged Irregulars, that flew out of Bassingbourn, England: the 322nd, 323rd, 324th, and the 401st. The insignia for each are

Why? Many times the feedback given is constructive and brings up valid points. "Back then" was real war. This is not that. I wouldn't spend a Saturday afternoon on a game that is onesided.

Thanks!!

Your batch of B-17s is likely over Iceland on the way over from the states by now. Well have them ready to go for yah. No problem!

Really?
What if it was a lot of fun. I mean really, really fun, even if you were on the losing side? Do you only choose to play games if you can win? What if it's the most fun you have ever had but there is no chance of winning, would you play it then? I have had some of my most fun days here in AH knowing there was no way I was going to win.
The most fun day I have ever had in my life was in 1998, racing a Superbike at Daytona. There was no way I was going to win. It just was not even close to being possible, yet me, and the 2 friends I traveled with to do this race, and the 2 weeks I took off work just to make it there and back, and the thousands of dollars I spent, and the crash I had at 170 mph, all added up to the best, most fun day of my life.
Winning isn't all it's cracked up to be. Striving to improve, spending time with friends, giggling your way through adversity also has value.

You do not get off that easy, Joker. I'll get you on the standby roster for the 91st BG. Slpknot is heading up the 100th BG. Between the two of us, you will have a seat, even if I have to give you mine!

I think you missed my point. I want as close to a fair chance at a good fight as possible. Some of these setups are very lopsided. I am not going to waste my time being a target so some allied dude can pretend he's a real fighter pilot.
To quote Herm Edwards "you play to win the game, you don't play just to play it"
So yes I always want to win when I play the game.

And as is often the case each side tries to influence things so that their chance of winning is greater. The intent then is to optimize the opportunity to win, not to make it fair for those whose focus is 'winning' the game.

I was thinking I'd bomb, but it looks like bombers are filling up faster than anyone else, so I'm going to hang on and see who needs more pilots when we get closer to the start date. At this point that looks like Axis but it's still early to say.

Mr. Dragon, That is the game plan from what I understand. Numbers have been in the potty for a long time, all of a sudden there are lots of people who actually are requesting bombers. Who would have thought that? Side CO's discussing more 190's for more bombers. Win Win for everyone. (Leave the lead bomber alone, it may be the bomber CO.) :D

Trading more bombers for more LW fighters can't happen without additional escort added as well. You know as well as I Brooke how it will play out, and throwing the fighter v fighter numbers even more off will just lead to less and less bombers each frame.
Title: Re: Where are all the "BIG WEEK" Bomber Crews?

First is that +/- one axis fighter isn't going to alter the outcome of a scenario. Even natural variability in staffing frame to frame is statistically much greater than +/- 1 aircraft.
Second, historically, fighter:fighter BOG was 0.82, DGS was 0.84, DGSII was 0.8. We are at 0.8 -- in line with those.
Third, define "excess fighters" = (number of enemy fighters) - (number of allied fighters). If every allied fighter tied up an axis fighter, excess fighters is how many would be left over to go after bombers -- it is one metric among several I look at in balance for a design. Historically, (excess fighters)/(bomber formations) was 0.59 for BOG, 0.57 for DGS, and 0.74 for DGSII. We are currently at 0.56 -- in line with BOG and DGS, and significantly lower than DGSII.
In summary, +/- one aircraft is not of great significance to outcome, and both fighters:fighters and (excess fighters):bombers are in line with past 8th AF scenarios.
