Finished a 77 Jeep restore then bought a 73 Corvette for restoration next... Drag raced fuel altered for years too. Thus the name.... (No, it's not because I wear high heels and a bra, 27th, even though you dream of me in them)
Got an old car, truck?? Let's hear about it.

Model 3 Performance Edition. I have only had it for 1 week. Absolutely the fastest car I have ever driven.

 Probably a similar story to mine...I took Dads commute car(Was working in Chattanooga, but driving weekends till we moved) A Toyota Tercel 84' model. Front wheel drive and gas for days. Well, first time I REALLY drove it,as my truck was in shop, I took it to my buddies BACK Country-Hide from everyone drinking/Smoking zone. It was nasty...had rained for a week..BUT THAT LITTLE car....went where those 4x4's got stuck..straddled the ruts. So I was the "Shuttle" car  Was a just fine, after about $10 in quarters as the the Car Wash.....UNTILL that DAY :uhoh Dad...changed the oil  Forgot to clean EVERYWHERE :rofl

I drag raced modified production in a 56' Chevy Bel Air back in the 70's at the now closed Raceway Park, in Englishtown, NJ. I sold it and bought a new 76' Corvette, drove it for 34 years, but never raced it.

How I miss the 80's and my stock 5.0. Never found a Vette for less than 40k (back then) that could beat it. Dodge was no where to be found in those days. Just a bunch of 30 something's reliving the past talking about their uncle's old Roadrunner. I think I paid 9k. for that Fox body.

We used to destroy Five-Point-Slows in our Chargers and Road Runners. Buddy of mine had a ‘68 Charger with a six-pack 383. When I drove that thing I felt like I got launched off a carrier in a Hornet.
Even better was another friend and his Camaro (‘68 or ‘69). I think it got about four gallons to the mile. Ain’t a modern Mustang I’ve ever seen that could touch that thing. It was unbelievable. I am lucky I didn’t get a detached retina riding with him in that sucker. Whew.

The Mustang/302 was the best bang for your buck, most envied small block performance car of all time.

I got a 97' Ranger that simply will not stop running. I fully expect it to make it to 300,000 miles and over the last 17 years, the only time Keith Richards has failed to get me from point A to point B was when 4th gear disintegrated whilst driving down the interstate.
Annual cost runs about $200 including insurance but that's inflated by a couple of seat belt tickets.

I've had a lot of fun cars in the past (1982 280zx turbo, 1990 5.0 notchback, 2000 Corvette FRC, 2002 Corvette Z06, 2006 CTS-V, 2015 Mustang GT PP just to name a few of the them), Now we have young kids and they don't fit well into any of those (except the CTS-V) so now we just have 3 money pits. My wife's 2015 Jeep Wrangler 4 door, my 2013 Jeep Wrangler 4 door, and our 2015 Fleetwood Excursion 35E.

While I had a 69 Road Runner and a 68 Mustang, the Road Runner was slightly faster, but the cost to get there was higher than for the Mustang. Chevrolet is even cheaper.
As far as bang-for-the-buck goes, it is hard to beat a small block Ford/Mustang combo, in that class. There are millions of Windsor blocks laying around all over the world. Produced from 1961 to 2001 makes it easy to get parts for.
My current projects are a 64 Ranchero (not even close to being a restoration. Full on custom) and a 65 Cobra replica, which I have been replacing more and more of what it came with. Already got the custom IRS done. Working on a new front suspension and tweaks to the frame to stiffen it (gotta love finite element analysis). All the while driving a 2007 Mini Cooper.
The Wife's 62 Corvette is on the back burner, but I have been compiling parts for it.

Yep............it's mine..........Challenger Hellkitty. Mopar only muscle since the mid 60s'. 65 Plymouth Sport Fury Convertible, 4 Speed 383, 69 Roadrunner 383 4 speed, 70 Dodge Coronet R/T 440 Magnum 727 tranny, 1972 married 1972 Ford Maverick LOL, 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T 6 speed, 2012 SRT 6 Speed. The R/T I ordered, the SRT off the show room floor. and now 2016 Challenger Hellcat 6 speed, 707 HP 650 ft/lbs torque driven only in excellent weather has 2400 miles on it (bought it brand new with 8 miles on the odometer.) I didn't mention the 78 Trans AM and 79 Z28 I owned in the second sentence of this post.......they were dogs. Completely boring. Mopar my thing. I however appreciate all makes and models.

That reminds me of another friend of mine. His dad had a Mustang but he had a Ford F150 that he dropped a souped up Windsor in. He built the motor himself and that thing would scream. It looked like just some plain boring pickup truck until he would race people in their rice burner rockets or even Mustangs.
One night we were out getting a Whataburger in the Valley near Edinburgh and some punks decided to egg us. I heard a THUMP THUMP and my buddy said, "I'm hit!" (We thought we had been shot at for a second.) He realized it was two raw eggs and he whipped that truck around. Those kids tried to run and he caught them in about five seconds. We proceeded to follow them all over the Valley--the bug-eyed look on the face of the guy in the back seat was priceless--until their brakes started to catch on fire. We decided to let them go at that point.
Ah, to be young and silly again.
I would love to see the explanation they gave their parents over those torched brakes. :rofl
(Those sound like nice projects, BTW. Very cool.)

Ugh. If only the new Charger had followed this theme. The new Challenger and Mustang are absolutely spot on updates. Love them. They kinda' remind me of those Super Deformed Japanese airplane toys only seriously implemented instead of being a caricature.
If I get a Challenger I'm getting one to match my Charger. I bet they just scream. :aok

I had my '98 trans-am. I didn't know it until I sold it but the motor was likely a mutant, built with a couple of vette parts the first few months of the switchover to the LS1 in the f-body cars. During a few years of autox more than one other competitor said it seemed a bit faster than it *should* have been on nearly stock suspension. After I sold it 11 years later, the kid who bought it put it on a dyno and it had about 30 more hp than it should have had, so something wasn't quite standard with the motor. I sure hated to let that go.
I replaced it with a G8 GT (basically a 4-door firebird) and after the L76 motor died twice I put in a factory LS3 motor. Moved to California so I had to return the intake plumbing to stock, but I got to keep the engine and trans tune so it runs pretty well. Plus 420ish hp at the crank is "enough" for a daily driver sedan that fits 3 child car seats in the back. For now, that is :)

I run in Super Stock so I have to stick with type one configuration and naturally aspirated. We have a decent amount of rules we have to abide by. Ever once in awhile I start thinking about building another car to run in a class that allows me some freedom from the rules but then reality sets in. It would be like having two wives, sure there maybe some cool things about it but who really wants twice the headache?

I absolutely love them, They fit right in the stock instrument console and all hook up using just a cable like a Cat5. and one cat 5 cable down to my console cluster gauges also. Of course my glove compartment is now a Dakota Digital control center. The new style of Dakota Digital gauges I like even better but they were not out yet when I put mine in. I have the 1969 Camaro VHX Instruments with the center console cluster.

If there are any caveats I have not found them I love them, straight forward installation with well written step by step instructions. All connections are well identified. You can buy them in several different instrument lighting colors and can control the lighting either by using the setup settings or buy the optional rheostat to dim and brighten them to your liking. The kit is complete with all of the sensors, connectors and wiring. You can buy options for different gauges you might chose to run. Speedometer is easy to control so it runs dead on through the settings. I use my GPS and set speedo to the speed on my GPS, on the run. There are several other ways to calibrate speedo. I run optional fuel pressure, transmission temp, and outside air temp and compass. Yes they are a little spendy but I think they are worth the money. I have had mine about 3 years now and not one problem at all. Only thing I had to contact them about was they sent me a 300psi fuel pressure sender and I only needed one to 100psi, I called he said keep the sensor and he sent overnighted the correct one.... Just checked the DD gauges for a 64 Ford Ranchero, those are some good looking gauges

Hehe,...the Ranchero is not going to have the same dash it has in it now, but I am leaning towards Dakota Digital for the gauges. I like the night lighting.
The Ranchero is getting a full custom interior. I just started gluing the foam blocks in place to make the shapes, after striping the interior of everything, including the dash.
Considering lowing the roof 2" as well. It has a ton of head room in it. More than I need. Also adding in a full stealth roll cage.
Making molds for all the parts is going to be fun.

There are any number of fast and quick cars available today,.....but they have dumb down the driving experience for me to where they are boring.
A friend of mine got a Corvette ZR-1 and took me for a ride. Quick is too slow of a term for that car, but I could not help but notice that the only thing he had absolute control over was the direction of the car. Everything else was being controlled by computer. Nice car. Fast car. But it lacked what I want in a car.
Part of the driving experience, for me, is the entire control thing. Sure, computers can do it better. No doubt, but that is not the kind of fun I am after.
There are a lot of things I like about new cars, and a lot of things I do not care for. I am going to make my Ranchero the best compromise I can between old and new so I can have a ball when I drive. If I had to pick a comparable car to match, it would be the original Porsche "whale tail" 911 Turbo. Light, quick, nasty, visceral, mean and more fun and terrifying to drive than anyone could imagine. :)
The Cobra is obvious. The Ranchero is a sleeper.

That's why the earlier gens of Vipers were so fun. No nannies. If you didn't know how to control the car it would cost you big time. You can get a nice early 2000's gts for around 30k now. Great car for the money.

Finished a 77 Jeep restore then bought a 73 Corvette for restoration next... Drag raced fuel altered for years too. Thus the name.... (No, it's not because I wear high heels and a bra, 27th, even though you dream of me in them)
That's why the earlier gens of Vipers were so fun. No nannies. If you didn't know how to control the car it would cost you big time. You can get a nice early 2000's gts for around 30k now. Great car for the money.
The nannies do help the driver who does not take the responsibility of learning to drive a high performance car. They prevent it from launching too fast, stopping too fast, going into turns too fast, shifting into the wrong gear, and so on. They do make those drivers safer to be on the road. Those are the drivers who have no respect for the car or the others on the road.
I drive like an old man on the road. Observe the laws, take my time and so on. When I am on the track, it is a different story. The Cobra club also does back road runs. I am looking forward to driving in those. They are fun.
With the nannies, anyone can drive a Corvette ZR1 fast, but when a 65 Cobra passes you, then one should seriously consider slowing down because there is no way that would happen with a decent driver behind the wheel of that Corvette.

When an "improved touring" (stock spec. engines and limited mods) acura integra or 240z put up better lap times than a ZR-1, it's time to watch those guys and learn.

While I don't drive high performance cars like you Skuzzy I drive like a granny on the regular roads. But up here in PA when I get on the back roads where I know there's little traffic I tend to air it out a bit. Only problem I have is I've had at least 20 deer in two years that attempted suicide by Impala :) Kind of keeps my foot out of the engine :)

Camaro ZL1 1LE does quite well.

We took one to Kennedy Space Center and the front bodywork fell apart at 180mph and caused extra work for us in locating and cleaning the runway of all the parts.
