Title: NEW YouTube channel
Post by: The Fugitive on December 14, 2024, 05:13:57 PM
I've created a new channel called Aces High Shorts (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWfGY2LYgUtxbGg9TT4-ePA).
The idea of the channel is to update often with short videos to show what AH has. Im sure many people look at AH as just a flight sim game and dont realize how much is in the game. I hope to point out as many things that are in game as possible along with missions plans, after action reports and so on you show the depth of Aces High. I dont want to do comparisons to other games other than maybe a comment here of there. For the most part I just want to show whats good about Aces High.....even if the graphics suck :devil
The first two videos are up. I know I need work on some of the animation work as well as the voice overs....New England accent not with standing. I'm open to suggestions on topics. Remember none of these will be over a minute long. Short and to the point to keep everyones attention.
From the community, like Animls commercial we need everyone to post them everywhere and to "like" and or "subscribe" to try and get this stuff out there.
Oohh that's a great idea! I'll ask the guys and see what we can do Monday
I picked one heck of a time to launch a You Tube channel that wants content.... with visitors from out of state, Christmas and New Years there just isnt enough hours in a day. However, I did get another one posted. Please check it out, like, comment and subscribe please to get the word out there about Aces High!

The game looks kind of boring if you can fly around bouncing barely maneuvering planes while discussing the ride being used.
The point was the guy has thousands of subscribers and over 20,000 views of that video in 4 hours. You can understand what I'm saying. Right?

I was braggin' to one of my sisters about having a youtube video with over 30,000 views. Then she showed me an instagram video of her kids and nephews with over a million views. I was humbled.
Getting Growling Sidewinder to play some AH and post a video is your best shot at new players.

He can also have a major negative impact if he doesn’t like it. This is gambling. But go for it.
They seem to have ideas of setups to failure. Like interviewing HT when there has not been updates. Taking it to forums where they flame sims.
Be careful. Having someone in a competing game promote yours can go south real quick. Can’t wait for graphic comments. How many views are from the IL-2 crowd? How many on Iron’s 20l vid were dcs players? If you post a vid on a large game forums you will get 20k views. Same with this one.
Roll the dice. He can make you as well as break you.
The people with these “ideas” are not in favor of our success. They ran a 128 page knock down of AH right here. A few days ago slipping in another video to promote another sim over AH.
Have Pepsi promote Coke?
But hey, maybe 1 of 2000 post against AH to promote dcs will be an honest one.
I don’t see this as “your best chance”.
Throw those dice.
I want nothing to do with this idea. He and his buddy CptTrips is known for shinny hooks of false positives.
You’ve not heard what I heard about these guys from within their own circle, telling me I have them nailed. From their own dcs discord circle. My opinions of these guys is not just my own observation and street smarts.lets listen to someone who sells other games here snd refuses to play it. <eye roll> i woulda permabanned these guys 2 yrs ago. Same group, two of them banned here and they coddled and encouraged YKW on discord. Their posts are sabotage, its their game.
If I’m wrong I’ll eat your shies.
He just posted another game in a post of someone trying to help our game. Same as he does to me. Tag, you’re it.
Make your own decisions.

Sooner or later if you want to grow the pie you will need reach out to others outside this comfortable little safe-space bubble.
Your new players aren't here on this forum. They are out there in that big scary world.
I would put similar comments on Enigma's YT vids. He regularly reviews various MP games out there as his interest is at the higher level of Online Combat Games not DCS in particular. If fact, at the moment he is kinda down on DCS, so now is the best time to try and intrigue him.
I know he was a long time WWIIOnline and IL2 1946 player and I know he is aware of AH, but I don't think he has ever tried it in depth. He has done several videos about legacy games that had playability and quality that modern games have forgotten how to achieve. An analysis of AH in those terms would fit in to that video series. I think AH does some things better than any modern sim. I think there is lost knowledge that was learned over 30 years of combat sim'ing that has been "forgotten" and is having to be painstakingly re-learned by newer sims, like icons, etc. They are having the same arguments over stuff that AH kinda already worked through 20 years ago.
Yes, there is the possibility that he will not just shine you on as say EVERYTHING AH does is perfect and cannot be improved and better than anything on the market. When you start getting honest opinions rather than just propaganda, there is always that risk. But he has always been positive about the gameplay "meta" of 1946 and WWIIOnline and neither of those have better graphics than AH. Putting such comments on one of his current game reviews and maybe even his sim'ing Dark Age vid would be your best shot.
He also may not be interested in installing and configuring such an old game for review. He currently still plays 1946 so that is already installed. He was a WWIIOL player for years so his review of that game was probably just by memory. He is in the mode of reviewing a bunch of currently new combat games out there, but he might not think installing AH is worth the trouble given it's age. But is it not worth a couple of YT comments to roll the dice?
Just one of his videos would get you the visibility of a hundred Masters of the AI vids. Even if he has criticism along with praise, there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Anyhow, after that rude interruption, getting your message before large numbers is most likely to produce results. There's a reason those 60 second Superbowl ads cost millions.
Title: Re: NEW YouTube channel
Post by: AKIron on December 31, 2024, 03:35:41 PM
A 60 second video on setting up controls would likely be welcomed by many. Not verbose. Not lengthy. Concise and just what is needed to get you flying and shooting. The rest can come later.
Title: Re: NEW YouTube channel

If you make a video like that don't skip anything necessary. That will only frustrate. Cover everything fast. Show it in such a way someone can pause the video or go back to it. "60 seconds" should be in the title. Others make how to videos like that and they are very popular.

Some of you may have never made and shared a video on youtube. It's easy if you have an Nvidia card. If you don't have Geforce Experience or the newer Geforce App. Get it. Press F9 to start and stop recording. Videos are saved in the user video folder. Create a free gmail account if you don't have one (is there anyone that doesn't?) Use that account to login to youtube. Upload your video. Share the link. It's easy. Even you non-Texans can figure it out.

I find narrative driven videos are far more interesting than just watching someone fly around and do whatever. The latter is boring.

I would enjoy fighting Growling Sidewinder in AH, and would respectfully give him the time he needs to learn and understand the flight model. Would use a new callsign. I imagine it would feel like he's going back into gaming time, but atleast he could see why AH still has a following once he understands the MA. Whether it's "for him" or not, doesn't mean that many of his followers won't give it a try if this is more their style of gameplay.

I added a new video!! This one is almost 3 minutes long, but its on how to use the Mission Planner in game. There is a lot of information in it so it has to be a bit long. I was happy to keep it under 3 minutes.
Again, check out it. I know a bunch of you are watching them (Thank-you!) but to get You Tube to recognize the page you need to "Like" each video (click the thumbs up icon), Subscribe to the channel if you havent (just click subscribe, you dont have to add the "notify me" stuff) and comment in the comments, "Hey Fugi" is enough. The point is to get You Tube to see that there is some action/interest at the page and so "hopefully" will add it to the "Suggested video" list down the right side of any YouTube page. If the "analytics" get picked up by the usage it may push the page outside our little bubble to a wider audience which we can hope will bring people to check out the game.
So please, check it out, Like, Subscribe. and Comment to keep interest going! Thanks!

Good stuff, Fugi. Good narration and a video quality that shows that the graphics really shouldn't be the drawback that folks imply out there in my opinion. The fun and action looks more compelling to me than rendering engine stuff.
You better be a Red Sox fan with that accent, btw.

What, and how you’re doin these are a positive IMO. Donated films are a blessing for making a 3rd party wider view of the sim. For us its about the game, not as much any single player.
I’ve got a lot of films available if you need certain scenes you don’t have. I recorded a massive bish invasion on a base last night.
I can only use seconds of a film so its not like you’d be reusing a same scene or view.
I’m building a library of GV fights, furballs and base attacks first and MA vid, that will make the first pr look like its standing still.
Tell me what you’re looking for, no credits required. I don’t have your email anymore, so PM me if ya need something, if I have it its yours.
Edit; A thought, a short on low system requirements, low vid requirements, and MA capacity type short,

I posted this in Xanax post in the "Films and Screen Shots" thread "Speaking of good AH vids on YouTube... (https://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,410429.0.html)", but I thought it was important to explain what we are trying to do here.
"The only reason Im taking the time to learn and post this stuff is to promote the game. And You Tube, I think is a great way to do it. You Tube uses algorithms to push these videos. Each time someone visits, likes, comments, and subscribes You Tube notices. The more action on these site the more You Tube adds your content to that list down the right side of the You Tube page in the "video recommended for you" section. That along with the tags you add to the page help others find Aces High. A modeler might be researching a P51 model he is going to build and Google will pop up a video about some guy who videoed his build, the guy watches the video and notices in the recommended section one of our videos and watches that, next think you know they are downloading the game to give it a try. Instead of building a plastic model of a P51 he is looking forward to FLYING a P51!"
So Please, take a couple minutes out of your day and hit those Aces High video pages on You Tube and "Like, Comment, and hit that Subscribe button!"

Short AAR of MNM, Thursday Night Tank nights, FSO. Just 40-50 word statements to show some action is happening. I had this FB page I was running real time the nights I was on for a bit.
https://www.facebook.com/FlightCityRadio
I was grabbing some action/traction, but real life got in the way and I had to stop. Short updates of what is going on IN game REAL time on the main page might get some interest.

Keep the main page generic with basic info and now these YT videos if the manpower to keep it updated is an issue..
I think upcoming events and scenarios should be listed with all but the last one or two removed with those last couple left up with links to YT videos of them..but that requires periodic maintenance
The outdated info looks like the app is being neglected and can't help ppl try it imo

AH Events can submit the text and a five min update is all I'm asking for. It doesn't have to be every week. maybe once a month or 2. Weekly events can be listed with no dates since they happen weekly. Events are a big AH seller it seems

I’m not terribly fussed about my view count or any of the other analytics but something I’ve noticed posting videos is that the ones with a thumbnail with a plane facing towards the camera tend to get 30-50% more views than the others. Now this is an extremely small sample size (like projecting a guys year at the plate off of 1 spring training game small) and more views doesn’t necessarily mean that people are watching more than two seconds but if you want as many eyes as possible it’s something to consider.

Now this is an extremely small sample size (like projecting a guys year at the plate off of 1 spring training game small) and more views doesn’t necessarily mean that people are watching more than two seconds but if you want as many eyes as possible it’s something to consider.
The only reason I want the counts/views/subscriptions is because You Tube will notice and add them to searches as well as put them up as suggestions to other people. The more people that see my videos the more people I hope check out the game. Thats what Im hoping to do, is get more people in game.

Good point. I custom make my thumbs. A feeble attempt to look like a game CD cover.
Edit: I just bumped up from HD 1080 to 2560x1440. My videos should be more crisp and realistic.
Thanks for your efforts Fugi.

I would find it incredibly helpful to get a bit more detail as to improve my dive bombing and rocket attacks.
Keep the vids coming! :salute

It is hard to split the line where on one side its a training tutorial..... that nobody watches nor sends on, and the other side showing "action" in game play. Id love to come up with some quick easy training tutorials but lets get this page rolling a bit first. I remember training guys from the 444th Air Mafia on how to dive bomb in a P38 with out lawndarting. :devil

Scott 66 every thursday night 8pm est I host a Tank night only bud
I watch Scott66 quite a bit driving the armor. He bangs into trees a lot but he's deadly to aircraft and has a knack for deploying troops under the nose of the red guys. Him and Tyfoo in the same area are pretty damned formidable. Add to that, friendly as all get out to everyone and plenty of laughs to be had while watching. A hearty 2 thumbs up from me. Many a boring night doing the a graveyard shift made better by watching his livestreams on the iPad. Co-workers think I'm doing continuing education videos...they're dummies. I think he'd crush it on Thursday's tank night. Do it, man!

I do to, but I dont have much in the way of "followers". The AH page isnt active https://x.com/AcesHighGame . the Last post was in 2019 I think. Does anyone know how we can get it opened for posting again? I tried to post a link to my You Tube page, but it looks like it is setup to need approval before it posts.

I’m going to setup a tech/help playlist and use some of yours in it. Hopefully get ya a cross-over flow. If some training videos pop up I’ll make one for that too.
Did you share MotA? Curious, it got quite a few views since Feb 8. Pushing it over 2k, think there were lime 50-50 views real quick.
Edit: BTW i busted through dcs, wt, il-2 video impressions/suggested. Some impressions were on their videos :)

Yes I shared it over on the Reddit page "hoggit" as an example of the events we have have and pointed out that sign ups were open for the "Battle of Britain" and 6 weeks was a good amount of time to practice up to be a killer :)

New video posted!
After reading the Rye Games (https://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,410525.0.html) I thought a tutorial on how easy the view system is in Aces High might be something to help new players. While its not as "action packed" as some of the others it has great information.
So check it out and as always please LIKE, Comment, and Subscribe if you havent already. So far a bit over 10% of the videos are watched by people OUTSIDE of the game from searches and "suggested videos" by You Tube. The more you guys like, comment, and subscribe the more they get seen and maybe it will get more people to check out Aces High!
Thanks

Joystick set-up & views in AH3 is remarkably easy and intuitive; as pointed out in another great YT :salute
On the flip side of the coin, Flight Simulator 2024's joystick views/camera config is ( I find) frustrating to comprehend, yet alone master.
Thanks again for all you do!

Just curious if you realized things like key combo of fwd and right produces the same as key pad 9?

I do, but why add in a another key when the 9 works fine. I know there are lots of combos, my video was just a basic "Did you know AH has this setup as default?"
I was hoping to just point out how easy it is to use the default settings unlike something like DCS where you can spend hours to just get a setup thats good enough to get off the ground.

No wonder I've been taking out laundromat and gym facilities rather than important stuff like ammo dumps and hangars with the 38. I've been at the wrong angles.

New video up!
This one is the fight between Shane and Awful (Xanax). I had both players films and tried to tighten up the fight to move it along, keep it exciting. Let me know how I did. There are a few spots Id like to change/fix but I just didnt have decent views to work with.

Great stuff, Fugi. It's more compelling than watching both separately-especially when you pack it full of the action. It makes a good teaser for a prospective new customer that way in my opinion. It was very well done. I'm glad you left the part out where I had my gear down by mistake otw to the fight. That was awkward.

Fugitive may or may not be ignoring me so tell him to do some silly antics in AH. Maybe mix that with some other game that has a greater viewership. If he/you/they/y'all want attention.
Capture audio of people talking. People need connection with other people whether they want it or not.

I didnt even notice you had your gear down  :P
Thanks guys! It was tough, Shane uses "snap" views and Xanax has a head tracker (either VR or TrackIR) so getting good shots was a challenge. Im starting to figure out tricks to get around the limits of the film viewer. If I could just get the "camera placement/tracking figured out that may help.
Thanks again! <S>

I use instant view. Snap view is like a pan that returns to center. I notice in film viewer that reduced FOV also affects what others see in my "view" to an extent. I try and have my views overlapping to make tracking a bit easier -my FOV is currently set at 110deg from the default 90deg.

I know I havent posted a new video in awhile, but Im in the process of building a new computer. All the parts should be in this weekend and I hope to have it put together soon after. Been spending the last week or so consolidating drives and going through what programs I "need", or "want" and which I can chuck as I havent used them in ages. Getting the licenses and passwords together and backing everything up. Man I hate upgrades! :)
Once I get it all up and running I plan on jumping back in. Stand by!

Not something for the YouTube channel, but found this in a "flash" file while consolidating my files for the move to the new computer. Took a couple minutes to convert it to an mp4 file. Good for a chuckle.
I give you "Lazer, and man and his mouse!" (https://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=410837.0;attach=38032)
