it would involve AvA for sure. . .that has the most potential for improvement.

Indeed.

An Axis vs Allies arena with very good AI including GV's so that large missions and counter missions with formations of bombers, tank columns etc could launch at several times throughout the day.

The AI slots are replaced by players who join the missions, (even if they are in progress) the AI just augment and fill in so that the missions can always run regardless of how many players join.

The player will never know what he will run into when he joins a mission. Escort and interceptor slots will fill with real players first so the majority of AI will be bombers and GV's but real players can replace any AI slot.

So basically Combat Tour lite.

(Image removed from quote.)

Other than the above, I'd like to see the following enabled for AvA.

Ability to pin a custom table to terrains that would hold during a reset and map rotation. Ability to choose a group of terrains and set the order in which they would rotate.

Additional parameters for winning the war, for example, percentage of enemy strats destroyed, number of enemy killed, certain key bases captured, combinations of these etc.

A usable perk system that would allow perk costs to be changed according to setup. For example be able to perk the 109F in an early war setup where the main AC would be the 109E.

Ability to set eny values for certain AC, so that we can set eny to automatically prevent 3 or 4 guys on the same side from having troop transports available to pork undefended bases in an otherwise empty arena.

Ability to choose between unlimited and finite numbers of certain aircraft to be able to model attrition. For example, be able to enable only 10 me-262's so that once they are destroyed there are no more for the length of the scenario or whatever period of time the CM determines.

A modified FSO type logging program so that we can track stats/scores for the week long length of our setups rather than by tour/month.

I guess we will have to agree to disagree. The only difference between you and your "conclusions" and me and my "possibly faulty memory" is I was there, you weren't

They are no "conclusions"

The road to the weekly reset. Note the dates.

Im not saying change it it is a good map BUT the fact is it takes 3-4 times longer to get a reset on the mindanao map(and the islands map for that matter) compared to the others(uterus and baltic)
Im absolutely fed up with mindanao! please could you put uterus and baltic in more often?
something like mindanao baltic uterus islands baltic uterus (repeat)?

Im sorry for complaining but for the last 3 days everytime i log on its mindanao! hardly any Gv action lots of gangbanging from a2 or other high bases.parts of the map are really good but the reset is extremely difficult and therfore more rare.Uterus gets reset in a matter of hours sometimes.

One thing else i will add, way back when i first started flying i only used to fly in the "free" arena in WB ($2.00 an hour being my main reason for not flying there anymore), and i loved that it  reset weekly. why not apply that to the terrain rotation here? rather than a reset dependant on 1 side "Winning"

A schedule for rotation would obviously be up to HTC. But, subjectively, from this player's point of view. Any map, even my most favorite maps in the set, get old after a week. It seems reasonable to meif we can't get a reset in a week there should be a scripted reset/scroll to the next errain in the set. This would accomodate all players, flying at least once a week is almost the definition of a casual player, also most squads have weekly squadnights, after which point the map should be rotated. A week would give everyone a chance to play on it, and wouldn't give us a chance to get sick of a particular map to the point of dry heaving on sight at load-up.

Quote
As of May 9, 2003 (Friday), we will be making a change to how the Main Arena terrains switch.
Currently, when a country wins the war, the arena resets and the next terrain in the rotation is loaded.
As of tomorrow, we will manually change the terrain to the next terrain in the rotation.  Thus, if the war is won during the week, the same terrain is reloaded and will not change until the following Friday of that week.
Basically, after tomorrow, you will get a new terrain every Friday, no matter what state the war is in.

And the reactions:
Thank Jesus, that is EXACTLY what I proposed in a message posted almost a month ago! Proof that Skuzzy and friends actually READ what we post here <BIG sigh of Relief>...

CHk out the News forum.... you all got what you been asking for... lets hope it works well! NEWS ANNOUCMENT
guys i think by a 'new map each friday' he means a new map (in the rotation)to the one your playing not a brand new map we have never seen before :)

just means no map will ever exceed an entire week(friday to friday) without being changed.I cant quite be sure what skuzzy means here but thats what i think it means.I like the idea of giving it a try! thnx for the test HTC :)

I could produce a tons more of posts, players complaining about steamrolling of maps, or proudly stating how many resets there side has won in the tour. All from 10 years ago, a time where "nobody ever won the war" and the maps were "weekly reset by HTC"

So much for your "I was there".

Oh, and I played for a very short time only in early 2001, but can also remember the war reset back then. And I when I had to stop playing, I still followed the game's evolution and discussions here. :)

An arena where the strats determine the ENY.

That's a cool idea.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

That's an interesting list, would certainly be interesting for the AvA.  I have a horrible feeling many of those ideas would not survive contact with players, but I think it'd be neat.

Some of those parameters would be pretty easy to work, to either toolshed or have buddies come in to let you kill them.

So if I wanted Allies to have an easy time of it, I log in Axis and auger 10 262s, thus denying them to the Axis side?

A better WWII arena with one thing or another fixed or improved ;)

Oh, and in my dreams a fully fleshed out WWI arena with a great variety of missions, targets and battles.

Don't forget the mustard.
If I had a gun with 3 bullets and I was locked in a room with Bin Laden, Hitler, Saddam and Zipp...  I would shoot Zipp 3 times.
