For what government services, if any, would you gladly exchange tax dollars?

I'll sort of blend my priorities of government with my government reform wishlist:

1.  Military
2.  Condensed policing/intelligence agencies (we've got CIA, FBI, ATF, NSA, ATF, Homeland security, US Marshalls, INS, Customs, did I miss any?)
3.  Park service (yeah, I prefer trees over subdivisions and strip malls)

That's it :)  Protect us from other countries, keep some wilderness to hike/hunt/camp in...

Leave each state to figure it's own agenda.  I'm all for some states being liberal, some states being conservative...country is big enough for everyone :)

in a representitive democracy you can still lose your freedoms.... in fact... it is a certainty...  every new representitive will pass new and more restrictive laws based on what he thinks the people who elected him or.... the politicians in his party....want.

the only way it can work is to have a very strong bill of rights with a supreme court that routinely looks at every law that is passed to see if it is constitutional or not.

This is not happening.   We have less freedom every year.   We are more restricted from both the left and the right and we have very little say in it.

voting does very little as the representitive that we vote for rarely represents us more than he does himself, his party and his contributing special interest groups.

Government is growing when it should be shrinking.  We are paying more taxes and living under more and more laws... government is more intrusive in our lives every day....

I would call that tyranny.

Here's a definition of tyranny I buy:

tyranny

  • noun (pl. tyrannies) 1 cruel and oppressive government or rule. 2 a state under such rule. 3 cruel and arbitrary exercise of power or control.

  — DERIVATIVES tyrannous adjective.

There's a qualtative difference between our two claims.  Maybe the representatives will sort it out?

Actually Hap, that does sound like our government and what Lazs was saying.  The taxation would fit #1, the laws would fit under #3, and #2 is where we live.

If I had 30 bil to give away, I would give it to the NRA.  That way they could buy off all the politicians they need to protect the 2nd ammendmant forever!

Maybe first I would drop a million or two at a strip club.  :D

Hey dumby, how about this option instead. Buy your OWN strip club!!!

:D
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

Too many hassles and skanky women complaining.  Better just to go, have fun and walk away.

Of course, if I had millions to blow, I could buy a club, hire a bunch of strippers, have one stage and just one seat, mine.   No other customers allowed.  :D

qualitative? I disagree. It's a matter of degree.

Once you allow an income tax (for example) in principle, it is just a matter of time and "representative's" will to decide how much it is. What is there to prevent them from declaring 100% tax on income. The entire GNP belongs to the government (they'll say " to us, the people" of course), and it is up to the government to decide who gets what.

It happened before.

Once we agree that the government "has a role" is our children education, it is just a matter of time until we have no say to what they are taught, and if we try to teach them at home, they'll take our kids away. For the good of children of course.

It happened before. As a matter of fact this is the first thing every self respecting totalitarian government does. First free and public, but compulsatory soon after.

Call me paranoid, but this is already happening here as well.

LOL....The entire liberal philosophy is based on using the Federal courts to dictate their agenda. A good example would be "Homosexual Marriage". Use an extreme left wing court like Massachusetts to legalize the marriage, then use the Constitutions "Full faith clause" to force the 49 other states to recognize the marriages. By pass legislative law. What they seem to have forgotten is that the SCOTUS could easily swing right....Now the rabbits got the gun.

yep... mietla and nirvana get it hap does not.   I believe that hap, you think that democracy is the important thing here... socialism thrives in a democracy... socialism is tyranny.   representitives are elected by socialists and done so democraticaly.

Only a strong bill of rights can protect us from tyranny.... Well... a strong bill of rights and a judicial branch willing to stick with it.

Tyranny=cruelty?   Ok... so how "cruel" is making people pay for services that they oppose?  How cruel is anexing their land to give to the socialists?  Why should monies be extorted for us to support only state sponsored education for our children?

Taxes grow government.... They support worthless government programs that are at best.... a way to put more people on governments payroll in order to better keep track of everyone else.  This is tyranny.

The methods of the IRS are tyranny... the methods of the EPA are tyranny... the FBI atf etc.  all tyranny... all acting in a way that most would think was illegal but operating under special privilige that normal citizens do not have.

The only real thing to do about it is to grow a pair and never ever never vote for any new tax or any new law that restricts freedom in any way to anyone... no matter how good it sounds at the time...

being conned buy these so called "for our own good" laws and taxes does us no good... it only grows government.

How much government in your life is considered tyranny?   I would venture to say that people from the '50s would say that we are allready there...
