Why dont we just add a seperate commanders position? Like we have the rocketeer's in the PT boat?
When in pintle, joystick moves pintle gun
When in commander's position, joystick movement causes turret traversal

In both positions rudders steer tank and hat switch for view (l,r,back etc.)

no, i mean like whne uri n the driver position, there can be a picture of the turret filling up about 1/4 of the screen. then u can drive AND look at where the turret is pointing, and there can be a compass telling which direction the turret is pointing.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

You didn't have monitors watching things from outside in WWII, no titanic.

Hang on a minute....    HT left external view in buffs to take the place of all the sets of eyes you would have in a buff which can't be replicated as 1 person...

Mebbe "windows" displaying what gunner/commander/driver etc can see isn't such a terrible idea...

didn't the engine have to be on in order to the turret to be turned using battery power and a hand crank when the engine is off?  If so, that should be modeled as well.

I believe the turret could be hand-cranked, but surely this was only in engine failure (just to get the barrel into the right position, so you won't bump into all the streetlights while driving :D )

I believe the turrets in bombers had the same option

But if they turned off their engines, wouldn't it also cut power to the turret so they'd have to hand crank it regardless if the engine was knocked out or not?

They probably hand-cranked it anyways, or it ran off a battery. I don't know.

You could turn it with the engine off. That's not the issue. It's a matter of from which position you can turn the turret (the request being that you can turn it from the commander's hatch)

Greetings,

I don't know enough about the hydralics of WWII armor.  Modern armor does not require the engine to be running.  Granted the aux pump does work off battries and you will need to recharge eventually but it was not the major voltage eater (that would have been the thermals).

Even if there were no hydralics, the TC could still talk to the Gunner and tell him which way to rotate the turret and how much to elevate or depress the gun to get him in the area of the target.

Once the target is within the sight box, the Gunner takes over.

Regards,
