1- Albert Collins Telecaster (Custom Shop Model)
1- Kind of rare Alvarez acoustic electric
1- Yamaha Bass (Short scale but fun to play)
1- Godin nylon string electric (My main squeeze lately)
I'm older than dirt. Closeted myself in my room with 2 B.B. King albums (Yes... vinyl - 8 tracks hadn't even been invented yet) in the early 60's and played until my fingers bled. Went through all the stages from Beatles to Led Zep to Cream to CS&N to Eagles to crappy 80's junk that drove me to jazz, but always kept the blues as a backbone for sanity.
My father was gone most of the time playing tenor sax with the Buddy Rich Band. Used to play most weekends for about a decade but now that I'm older, I do a solo gig once or twice a month just because I want to. Played a solo set in front of 30,000 people once - wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
Not the greatest player and don't have the greatest voice, but I do have an egoless, relaxed style that most folks don't find hard to listen to for 3 sets. If you do solo gigs, you have to try a nylon electric sometime. It really is sweet and you can fill things easily with your personal fingerpicking tricks. I plug mine directly from a Yamaha GA Stomp into the house P.A.
The older I get, the less volume I need - I pull them into the melody instead of shoving it down their throats with volume. Oh... I can grab the Tele and throw out a mean SRV-style "Leave my girl alone" or any number of surprises the last set, but for me, it's contrasts and twists that make music, not sameness.
Okay... I'll shut up now.
