Culero, I've always said SRV sounded more like Johnny than any other player.  My father in law grew up in B/PA and saw Johnny many, many times.  He says the same thing.

These are my main gig axes:

They appeal to my sense of symetry.  Kind of a good Kirk, evil Kirk thing...

I also own:

B.C. Rich Warlock
Kramer/Ferrington Electric/Acoustic

Stevie never played scales...He played "from" only 2..Minor/Major pentatonic scales and liked that flatted fifth.

Sounds like you need to learn your modes..Ionian,Dorian..etc(including assholian)

She was the best!

1- Albert Collins Telecaster (Custom Shop Model)
1- Kind of rare Alvarez acoustic electric
1- Yamaha Bass (Short scale but fun to play)
1- Godin nylon string electric (My main squeeze lately)

I'm older than dirt. Closeted myself in my room with 2 B.B. King albums (Yes... vinyl - 8 tracks hadn't even been invented yet) in the early 60's and played until my fingers bled. Went through all the stages from Beatles to Led Zep to Cream to CS&N to Eagles to crappy 80's junk that drove me to jazz, but always kept the blues as a backbone for sanity.

My father was gone most of the time playing tenor sax with the Buddy Rich Band. Used to play most weekends for about a decade but now that I'm older, I do a solo gig once or twice a month just because I want to. Played a solo set in front of 30,000 people once - wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

Not the greatest player and don't have the greatest voice, but I do have an egoless, relaxed style that most folks don't find hard to listen to for 3 sets. If you do solo gigs, you have to try a nylon electric sometime. It really is sweet and you can fill things easily with your personal fingerpicking tricks. I plug mine directly from a Yamaha GA Stomp into the house P.A.

The older I get, the less volume I need - I pull them into the melody instead of shoving it down their throats with volume. Oh... I can grab the Tele and throw out a mean SRV-style "Leave my girl alone" or any number of surprises the last set, but for me, it's contrasts and twists that make music, not sameness.

Okay... I'll shut up now.

I only know how to play classical music, so it almost doesn't count. Got a beautiful Alvarez-Yari classical, with close-grained cedar top and burled mahogany sides and back, and ebony fret board, fancy inlay around sound hole.

I don't play, but did get to see SRV three times in concert. First time was in 85' at Bumpershoot with Bonnie Rait. Second time was in 89' at the Gorge at George with Robert Cray. Last time was in 90' at the Gorge with Joe Cocker. Man, SRV could swing an axe. It was a sad day when he augered.

if the fart is old, it has lost its momentum and cannot move the strings enough to make "music"

get it? :D
