There has been some suggestion that the exit polls were accurate implying that perhaps votes were being stolen. What a load of crap. Far, far, more likely that the pollsters were either biased or incompetent.
The exit polls are just as wrong this year as they were when they were saying Gore won Florida in 2000 when Bush had a 15% lead in actual votes from reporting precincts.
Exit polls have been Bravo Sierra for years, and 2000 and 2002 proved that they could not be trusted. This year should put the last nail in the coffin of exit polls.
As I watch election coverage tonight, most were steadfastly refusing to accept them as valid, and refused to call any race in any state on the basis of exit polls.
Exit polls have long outlived their usefullness and need to be done away with. I'd like to see all news organizations simply refuse to have anything to do with them. They provided nothing more than bad window dressing this year, and at least no news agency got burned by them.
The Kerry campaign got burned badly by the exit polls. They should have known better. If they allow themselves to be dragged into a hopeless battle on the basis of exit polls no one else would trust, then they deserve to destroy themselves, and if the party goes for it, they deserve to go down with them.
