2 Stony, can you honestly tell me how much a thompson recoils?

I've talked to WW2 vets who had no problems whatsoever controling them and hitting stuff. And then my father had one on a boarding party and said he couldn't hit **** it was so hard to control.

Enjoying recreational activity outside, shooting at a target with iron sight from old WW2 rifle. I know that sounds bizarre to you but you really have no idea what you’re missing…. Maybe someday your county will have enough balls to allow its citizens to have weapons. For now you can wish that you were here in this photograph.

I said your personality leaves much to be desired. That's my true opinion from reading your posts and your reasonnig in starting such a thread.

Then I said you have a sharply pointed head.

That's a "personal insult"? That's a bannable offense? Just what does "pointed head" connote to you two guys? It's not like I called you a #@)*%& )% %))@#$&@ )$%$%% or anything someone would recognize.

Where exactly is the insult in pointy-headed? Is that a serious UK insult that I've missed?

Jeez Toad, all he said was that he noticed rather a lot of gun threads which surprises him because he has no interest in guns himself. I hardly think that constitutes a personality disorder, or whatever you meant by what you said.

fx1.. I have allways had a love/hate relationship with the semi rimmed 38 super... Never shot it in really accurate guns but if Kimber brings one out I might give it a whirl again.

"What you never had you don't miss" Guess I am just too adventurous to find any merit in that statement. I am more of a "lets give it a try" kinda guy. Even tho I don't climb mountains and never had.... I am glad to know that the equipment and the activity haven't been banned or regulated into uselessness.

I don't miss anything until someone tells me that I can't do or have it.

The recoil isn't that bad, but if you're not ready for it, the barrel will climb on you on full auto. It's actually only accurate at close ranges, but still fun to shoot.

the "grease gun" is a lttle more fun to shoot IMO, it does climb a bit more than the thompson but... Recoil? I don't consider recoil a factor in either gun.

What do you think zulu?

Kimber is a great gun but you need to shoot a tru custom gun. Its to bad that their rifles have such a bad trigger on them. I was looking around yesterday in the gun store and %75 of the 1911 were kimber. My 1911 is a remington production made in late 1944 and was used in ww2 by my grandfather. Love to take it out to the range, i reload some nice light recoil rounds for it and aim 2 feet below my target at 25 yards "dam iron sights". If i was in the market today for a 1911 i think that a las baer would be the way to go. A cop friend has one and its really nice but he doesnt carry it do to weight.

The trick with the thompson is short bursts. 2 or 3 rounds at a time. Then it walks up and left, but you can keep all three on target at 100 yards. Tommys are cool.

My personal favorite, though, is the reising. M1A1 Thompsons have a cyclic rate of about 700-800 RPM (IIRC), and 1928A1s have a cyclic rate of about 650 rpm (again, iirc). The Reising has a lower cyclic rate of about 500-550 RPM, which makes it more controllable, and it has a more inline stock design, which reduces muzzle rise. I can keep a full mag string (20 rounds) on target at 100 yards with a reising. Some day, when I am rich, I will own a reising.

fx1..I have shot Wilson combats and a les baes.. they are both great guns. I am not a dyed in the wool 1911 fan... like em fine but like 44 mag revolvers better... The Kimber is a great gun because it is a factory .45 that shoots into the same or better groups as the best custom gun... it shoots any kind of ammo all day long and.... every single one of em does... when I have to depend on it I like to know that hundreds of thousands of em are out there and being used and have no problems... the kimber custom eclipse 2 that I have was resonablely prioced... extremely well made to tollerances the custom makers can't even match... it has all the features I wanted and night sights and.... it is reliable and accurate and rugged. It does everything I want a .45 to do except shoot 44 mags out of a revolving cylinder.
