This is what's always puzzled me about americans. They constantly emphasize freedom - yet they continuously seek ways to limit it.
No bad words, no pron, no privacy.. That doesn't sound free at all to me.
What's always puzzled me about Euros (and many of the American youngsters here) is the only freedom they seem to embrace is the freedom to offend their neighbors...in America many of us know that freedom requires some iota of responsibility, and without that responsibility we lose our freedoms bit by bit.
Case in point is the Janet Jackson Super Bowl show. We could see much more explicit material on late night Cable TV, so it wasn't the boob popping out that was the issue- it was the inappropiateness of the venue (the Super Bowl) it happened at.
What was the result of Janet's show? Predictably, a crackdown by the FTC extending to the radio even where radio hosts I once enjoyed have been censored or, in some cases, banned from the airwaves. Is that Michael Powell's fault? Is it the people who complained about Janet Jackson's actions fault? Or is it- just maybe- Janet Jackson's fault you have to subscribe to Clear Channel to hear Howard Stern?
What will happen here when Skuzzy gets tired of dealing with JPEGs of an adult nature? When he disables picture posting, whose fault will it be? Skuzzy's? Mine, for complaining about it? Or is it the fault of the people who post inappropiate images?
This is NOT the proper venue for images of an adult nature, warning or not- if people continue to be ambushed here, like they were ambushed during the Super Bowl halftime show, then your "right" to post JPEGs will soon be removed- if not by Skuzzy then by some new Intardnet policing group.
Mora, Siaf, and you other "free" Euros- What freedoms you have were paid for in American blood, and without us you'd either be under the yoke of the Nazis or the Communists. Your style of freedom, where you are allowed to offend each other with impunity, isn't freedom at all if you force images on people, or smoke on people, or foul language on people who don't wish to share this. Not ONE of you Euros has spoken of, nor even considered, the rights of people to NOT have to share your foulness.
Our style of freedom requires respect for others and responsibility....two words which don't seem to translate into European languages.
