What's always puzzled me about Euros (and many of the American youngsters here) is the only freedom they seem to embrace is the freedom to offend their neighbors...in America many of us know that freedom requires some iota of responsibility, and without that responsibility we lose our freedoms bit by bit.

Case in point is the Janet Jackson Super Bowl show. We could see much more explicit material on late night Cable TV, so it wasn't the boob popping out that was the issue- it was the inappropiateness of the venue (the Super Bowl) it happened at.

What was the result of Janet's show? Predictably, a crackdown by the FTC extending to the radio even where radio hosts I once enjoyed have been censored or, in some cases, banned from the airwaves.  Is that Michael Powell's fault? Is it the people who complained about Janet Jackson's actions fault? Or is it- just maybe- Janet Jackson's fault you have to subscribe to Clear Channel to hear Howard Stern?

What will happen here when Skuzzy gets tired of dealing with JPEGs of an adult nature? When he disables picture posting, whose fault will it be? Skuzzy's? Mine, for complaining about it? Or is it the fault of the people who post inappropiate images?

This is NOT the proper venue for images of an adult nature, warning or not- if people continue to be ambushed here, like they were ambushed during the Super Bowl halftime show, then your "right" to post JPEGs will soon be removed- if not by Skuzzy then by some new Intardnet policing group.

Mora, Siaf, and you other "free" Euros- What freedoms you have were paid for in American blood, and without us you'd either be under the yoke of the Nazis or the Communists. Your style of freedom, where you are allowed to offend each other with impunity, isn't freedom at all if you force images on people, or smoke on people, or foul language on people who don't wish to share this. Not ONE of you Euros has spoken of, nor even considered, the rights of people to NOT have to share your foulness.

Our style of freedom requires respect for others and responsibility....two words which don't seem to translate into European languages.

Agreed. the superbowl was not the place for that.

With the Superbowl. The audiance was totally unexpecting that that was gonna happen.
the NFL for all its flaws does try to keep it clean on the airwaves so that everyone. Including children can watch it without worry of what is going ot be shown or heard next.

In the case of Howard Stern and where there is a slight difference is.
Howard has never touted himself as being a family oriented show. And has stated numerous times that he wouldnt let his kids listen.
With Howard you know to expect such things and have the choice to not tune in. Or forbid your children to. (God forbid parents actually do some parenting themselves)
Death is no easy answer
For those who wish to know
Ask those who have been before you
What fate the future holds
It ain't pretty

with stern.... he is on public airwaves.. the venue of public airwaves is that there is a code to follow... this allows parents to hit "seek" on the radio when traveling and not worry that the first words heard will be obscene.

stern pushed the limits in order to make money... just as a drug dealer who sells to anyone who walks up will make huge amounts of money..... the risk increases the profit.... till you get caught.   He got caught and now he is crying like a baby.

All he needs to do is find a a pay for venue.   If he is any good people will pay to hear him.

That's the best rebuttal you have? A flippant remark, designed to be offensive?

Too bad you're incapable of debate...oh well, as long as you have the "right" to be offensive, then I guess it's OK. :)

What got Stern in trouble was "naming" certain sex acts.....exactly like Ophra did on TV. Only difference is he's Stern and she's Oprah and  Stern didn't even decribe the acts like Oprah did.

Plus, they had to go back years to find this old bit on Stern.

How about HT's FREEDOM to conduct a BBS the way they want to. You have the FREEDOM conduct your own similar site the way you see fit, if you don't like this one.  With freedom comes responsibility, and I'm surprised I have to say this to anyone on this bulletin board, but freedom doesn't mean you have the right to offend the majority.

Well actually it does mean you have the right. You just might not be able to post here anymore if you do:)

I cant believe this thread is about someone complaining about getting in trouble for surfing this site from work. You are using their computers, their connection and thus its their dollar. You obviously were not supposed to be doing this and thats why there was trouble. I agree however that questionable links should not be on here but havent seen any that didnt have warnings. All companies I have been with instituted policies that if you were surfing anything non-work related it was punishable up to job loss. Didnt matter if its on your break you are eating up their bandwith.
