The Beatles certainly changed “Pop” music, but don’t confuse that with rock. The Who had a lot to do with shaping what bands in the early 70’s came up with. Hendrix was from Mars, but even Neil Peart from Rush said going to a Who show was a life altering experience without using drugs. THAT’s a show. And then he ultimately went on to make 2112, so I take that as good.
There is no confusion,While many songs by todays standards would be considered "pop" music such as
Ticket to Ride
This Boy
Taxman
I wanna hold your hand
Chains (neither of which are original Beatles tunes)
At the time they came to the USA Pop music was considered rock. And Vise versa
I cant think of a single Beatles tune that cant be considered Rock or wouldnt have been considered "rock" at the time it was released.
In any event.
You want 10 Beatles "rock" tunes?
Sgt Pepper Lonely Hearts club band
I want you/shes so Heavy
Oh Darling
Mean Mr Mustard
being for the Benifit of Mr Kite
Its Getting better all the time
Come together
Get Back
Happiness is a warm gun
Helter Skelter
Also the Beatles wrote many many songs that transended all forms of music.
"Hey Jude" should probably be considered in the above list also as well as "Yesterday"
Other songs that transended
Rocky Racoon
In My Life
When Im 64
You never give me your money
with a little Help From my Friends
And "Something" which Frank Sanatra claimed was "the greatest love song ever written"
along with a host of others.
But the Beatles ARE considered a Rock N Roll Band which is why you often still hear them on Classic Rock radio stations and not bands like The Archies "Sugar Sugarr"
Or the Bay City Rollers "Saturday Night"
You mentioned "The Who"
Look at the songs they were putting out when they first came over here.
Same thing with the Stones.
I cant think of a single song from either group that they put out when they first came out that wouldnt also be considered Pop Music.
The thing I like doing with all 3 of these Rock N Roll Bands is looking at their music and how it matured over time.
There is a marked difference in all 3 bands if you look at there first few songs and their last
But all are rock N roll bands
I see your listing Rush songs.
Rush is Heay Metal
Trying to say the Beatles music or even as you put it Pop music isnt Rock N Roll is the same as saying Heavy Metal isnt Rock N Roll
It is rock n roll. Its a subgroup of Rock n Roll just as Pop music is.
Billy Joel put it best
"Hot funk, cool punk, even if it's old junk
It's still rock and roll to me "
