At the time, I was getting Tres Generaciones for about $6 a bottle. We used it for our "bar tequila" and everything else.

Mexican tequila has become much more expensive of late than it used to be. Shame.

Anyone here ever see/try Sauza Hornitos?   Its a very smooth pale gold tequila with mild flavor, my favorite for drinking neat. Recommended, moderately priced.

I take it you don't like it with Sweet 'n Sour mix?

a good home made recipe for SS mix is

equal amounts

juice from FRESH squeezed
 lemons
limes
oranges

mix equal amounts of that with equal amounts of simple syrup

3 parts sugar,
1 part water

boil

equal amounts fruit juice, simple syrup,  Best Sweet n' Sour mix u can get

Will definitely make best Margarita

1 oz. Patron Silver Tequila
1 - 1 oz. shot glass

mixers, salts, & limes are for sissies :)

...or I'm one of the rare, strange people that actually likes tequila without it being all foo-foo'd up :)

Find/try that Hornitos label I mentioned if possible. You won't be disappointed.

culero (likes both neat tequila and a proper margarita)

I used to drink it until I discovered Cazadores Reposado.

Another excellent choice is El Jimador. It's made by Herradura.

Either of these are far better than Hornitos, IMHO. The cost used to be comparable, but Cazadores has become really expensive in the last three years. El Jimador is still relatively inexpensive.

We're not all that rare. :)

IMHO, Patron is good, but it's overpriced.

Just give me the Tequila.   That is heaven.  Better Yet Cragganmore Sinlge Malt or Belvedere Vodka (or Stoli) works.
