LOL...some of those sellers are sneaky aren't they Seagoon.  AdmRose what did you buy if you dont mind me asking.

I had a particular problem in which I bought an item but due to an emergency did not have the money at the time to pay for it, but was still willing to buy it.  I emailed the seller and explained my case and she replied back, "Ok thats fine send the money soon please".  No sooner than an hour later, I received an Unpaid item strike.  Now forgive me if I'm being ignorant, but I'm pretty sure it's up to the seller to announce whether an arrangement has been made or if the item actually went unpaid.   I guess "soon" meant within 15 minutes.

Did I dispute the claim?  You bet.

I wouldn't start to freak out at 4 days. I'd also be more carefull on who I bought from. The only time I bought from a new seller was on an item that was local. I paid in person at the time I picked it up. It was a refridgerator and I've had no problems at all with it.

I have had problems with ebay sellers and paypal. My biggest complaint is paypal offers little chance of recovering your money if you get burned.

Research your seller is the best advice I can give. Look at it this way, would you cash a check from a guy that is the 1st check on a brand new account?
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

No problems here, except that in my initial buying frenzy, I bought a pig-in-a-poke more than once! The worst one was a DVD about the Northwestern Railway - turned out to be a home video of a retired driver being interviewed - boring as hell! I also bought a flower vase - it was OK, but the seller had not cleaned it prior to despatch and it still had dirt inside it.

When selling, I ask for paypal or cash on collection. No cheques because they're a PITA. Just sold an old dishwasher, and a pile of unused housebricks - cash on collection.

Bad luck, rpm. My one BAD transaction was the purchase of a pair of matching tables. Total payment including P&P was £92 - about $168, so not a small amount. Heard nothing after 2 weeks, so emailed seller. Got a terse reply saying that had I read the small print, I would see that it was 28 days delivery. OK then, the 28 days came and went, still no tables. I waited another 10 days. Another email - no reply. I initiated a complaint via the normal eBay procedure. Because I'd paid by paypal, I was routed to my account on the paypal site. Entered the details and got an automated response saying that they would email the seller. Because the seller did not reply to paypal's email within the 10 days allowed, paypal decided the case in my favour. £92 was transferred from the seller's paypal account back into mine. I gave him negative feedback, and noticed in other feedback that this wasn't the first time he'd pulled this stunt. So like rpm says - always check seller's feedback.

I use Ebay like the local classifieds. If I'm spending big bucks I only buy from people who put a phone number in the ad. Who live close enough I can pay em a visit if it goes wrong. And I can go see the thing I'm buying if I have to.

For smaller ammounts I trust to luck and the trad ebay checks etc.

I bought a vintage motorbike from a guy in Suffolk over Ebay no problems. I went and had a look at it in the flesh. Then went home and entered the bidding.

If I'm spending big bucks I wouldn't trust Ebay but then I'm a bit of a luddite.

Chances are Ebay closed his account, file a complaint with Ebay also.
Funny...out of 160+ transactions i've had, the only one that gave me a problem is some company that sold computer memory located in South Carolina never delivered.  Only cost me 20.00, but I never got a refund from paypal.  After one year it is still pending.
Well, another seller of computer memory never delievered, but I managed to get a paypal refund.
Best deal I got was I low bidded on two pc3200 512mb Nanya DDr memory sticks, the winning bidder backed out, and the seller made me a second chance offer and I picked up both sticks with shipping for 45.00 us.
Just a rule of thumb (for me), don't buy from sellers with zero feedback.  And never send money until after the seller has responded.
I just bought an electric motor for my rc helicopter from a guy with 1200+ feedbacks and 99.8% rating, he said it was mistakenly listed and he had it sent directly from China to my house...It took almost 40 days, but I didn't even think twice about it because he kept in constant contact...
Well, enough rambling...I enjoy using ebay...It's great for those hard to find things.

A classic! :D

10 years ago our computer gang wanted to place a newspaper ad saying something like "386/40/4Mb/120Mb/mid-tower/3.5-5.25/14"/VGA, used, out of order".

We had all the stuff to make it real: rusty AT case, cracked 386 motherboard, sclerotic RAM, HDD knoking it's head against the wall, burnt-down VGA card and a blind 14" VGA display. Plus a KBD with 50 keys out of 101 and a ball-less mouse. No kidding: used and out of order! Any smart-ass who thought he'll buy a system that doesn't boot because of wrong CMOS setup value could get a surprise :D

No, but if being scared makes you that much more cautious before shelling out your hard earned cash based almost entirely (most of the time) on blind faith - so be it. I've had 65 or so transactions and two (this one included) in the last 7 months have gone sour. Got my money back for the first and hopefully I will here too.

I see all the negative feedback concerning your seller is with regard to computer memory chips. Hmmm - I'm in the process of trying to buy a 1GB SD memory card for my Casio Exilim camera. I made a Buy-it-Now bid on something suitable - Far East, but promises 10 day delivery and about half the retail price. When I came to pay for it, Paypal said the recipient could no longer receive funds - transaction cancelled. Emailed the seller - no reply after almost 24 hours. Very suspicious, given that so many scams involve memory of one sort or another. I also notice that many of these camera memory sellers start the bidding at about £15 but want £25 postage - for a little item like a memory chip.

Beet...I bought a nice SD card for a decent price off of eBay back in January from Digi4me.  They also shipped from somewhere in Asia, but it got here in a reasonable amount of time.

The card I got was a 512MB PQI HiSpeed 60 SD card.  I gambled, and got this instead of one of the Ultra cards from Sandisk, and was pleasantly suprised.  I use it in my Canon SD200, and in multishot mode on highest resolution, I can hold down the snapshot button and the camera will contiuously take pictures until the memory is all used up.
