Actually, that's about what Beachhead 2000 got on PC GAMER, but I played that laughing for at leat 10 hours.

More than I did WWIIOL.

You guys should change to Finnish language OS because I've been playing that game a lot since I got the copy (month ago?) and in that time I got maybe two or three CTHLs and CTDs.

That makes me wonder why my comp works like a dream (Could use more FPS thought) when some others suffers from those "bugs".

I've been playing that game in WinME and W2K in same computer using Nokia M1122 ADSL Hub/Modem with 512/256kb line.

As I said no problemo here  :)

Actually, PC GAMER did mention it got a 94% if you had a FINNISH system.

I remember buying many games for DOS that I never could get to run, period.  Did I sue or write them nasty letters?  No, I either took them back, or put them on the shelve to gather dust.

I don't know why some have problems and some don't, but the fact remains that thousands run it and have fun, and thousands more don't.

I'm lucky enough to be one that can run it, sorry ya'll can't.

Creamy, if you think my system is a flamethrower, you are sadly mistaken.

I remember DOS games too. Problem was they worked, and they came with a neat little instruction set in the back to create a boot disk so they WOULD work. If THAT didn't work, you called up tech support.. lo and behold tech support back then actually used that lump 3 feet above their bellybutton and got you on your way.

Ahhh DOS.... I remember using a CompuServe shell dial up to log into CK v.91 for my first time on a 486DX4/100 with 16MB of RAM.

Boot disks, DOS, command line, prompts... Man we've come a long way (well.. sorta)...

No intention to join the debate - I'll just say I got it, I play and enjoy it, and I don't feel ripped off.  Its been mostly problem free and I don't have a top end machine.  True it is still very rough and has lots of problems to solve, and probably was released too soon, but I enjoy playing it about as much as I do AH.  AH is a FAR more polished piece of work, but as a game experience I find them pretty similar.

Ah you young folks   :)  I remember the first time I booted a machine - it was with an 8 inch floppy on a Cyber 18.  The software resided on 40 MB hard disk units the size of a dishwasher.  Wrote programs for it in Assembly language on punch cards.  The most amazing thing to come along was a friend's  Radio Shack CoCo actually loading off a portable tape recorder!

Funny thing is, it was more of a pain to do anything with a computer back then, but you had complete control.  Now that its easier, they damn things are always trying to "help you out" and generally screwing you around.

Thanks Uncle Bill!

Gladflea, Im not saying your system is a flamethrower, but it sure isn't the norm, nor what anyone should use as a reason to be miffed why the rest of the world can't get WWIIOL to run well.

In fact my system, spec wise, is better than yours, minus the wacky graphic you display every chance you get.

I call it a "beast". It is. It almost gets AH at 80-90fps at 1600X1200, and for everything else ever produced, EXCEPT WWIIOL, it's just plain overkill. Hell, my second computer LAN'd in for people to play on does everything BUT WWIIOL well.

Make excuses, or at this point sparse comments that don't backup the facts, it don't matter.

WWIIOL stinks. Im not telling them, cuz i don't care too much. What your driving force is, I don't know.

My only goal is to counter the fellows that say it doesn't work.  You see, it does, though it may not for you.

I do not discuss AH because I don't play it, you should do the same.

toejam Rip, you don't have to go very far to find that stuff.

Look up at his first post:
"Well, Since I consider AH a waste of good coding, and have a blast in WW2OL, I guess it is all a matter of taste, eh?"

Neg Glad, I play them both, and WWIIOL works for me in a computer power driven sense.  At 18fps average mind you, but it is playable, yes.

Granted I play AH 99.9% of the time in comparison, only because I go back to WWIIOL once ever day or two to try and find out what you guys that make those outrageous claims are talking about and to have a opinion based on gameplay and fact, not hearsay or bias.

It’s a mess, and ironically it’s getting it run off a bad bellybutton system that confirms it.

Here is a feature list from EBGames.com

- Combined land, sea and air operations within a single virtual world. Nope

- First person character perspective within all 3 geophysical dimensions. Wha?

- More terrain and ocean than has ever been modeled in a game before. Maybe, but current "war" is limited to a small portion of the map.

- Incredibly accurate and detailed performance of all objects...be they vehicles, planes, ships, weapons or people characters. Incredibly accurate?  Isn't that like saying "more perfect"?

- Night operations. Navigate by the stars. Why?  The UI has a compass build in.

- Weather that changes the terrain conditions and vehicle performance.Am I the only one that has never seen a weather change?

- Interdependent strategy and supply modeling.Bzzzzt. Visible supply functionality is not in yet.

- Persistent mission based gameplay 24 hours a day.I would hardly call the current gameplay "mission based".  In fact, a current workaround to a CTD is to NEVER SPAWN USING A MISSION.

- Totally immersive environment.Dude, like, TOTALLY.  I find blue/purple skies totall immersive.

- Wide variety of user configurable communications abilities.Yeah, but you have to use the mouse.

- Achievable rank based hierarchy and command.Bzzzt, not yet.

- Unparalleled 3D sounds including fade, Doppler and direction effects.Am I the only one that can hear the aircraft 5 miles away but can't hear the tank 5 yards away?

- Thousands of players can be online simultaneously.Notice the generalisation?  "Online"?

I personally hope The Rats succeed.  I just can't believe how many people still praise this product like it is the greatest thing in gaming since DOS 6.22.
