If our youth can't hold the President of the United States up to be a role model (beside the parents), who can they? I can still remember when I had to explain to my youngest what oral sex was as he heard it on the evening news
Your post sounds like another example of the ongoing desensitizing and acceptance of the lack of morals and principles on which this country was founded. Sad.
With my dislike for Mr Clinton I never thought I would be defending him publicly...
Was your child ignorant of specifically oral sex or did you somehow managed to protect him/her from hearing about sex in general? Because the latter would be quite a feat in this country.
In my book sex (straight, oral, and all other kinds) is a way for people to express and exercise their affection to each other, among other things.
There is no requirement for celibacy or marital faithfullness for a president.
Of course I would be more comfortable if we could find and elect a real Saint to the post! But for the lack of saints we have to deal with real people.
A guy in the top seat must be very smart, motivated, enterpreneural, must be comfortable with calculated risk, must be brave, must be ruthless (as CiC he may have to order deaths of some people, including civilians). He must have a healthy respect to the rules but enough gut to write new rules sometimes.
Ever met a guy like that? They are usually complex people with strong drives and urges. They usually do things sometimes that may not be acceptable in some cases, especially when young or concerning women.
And there is not that many of them to chose from. So while his family morals would be important to me, they will not be on the top of my list.
It is common knowlege that many positive qualities in a man are directly linked to his hormonal activity. It is no accident that in the past a large harem was a necessary display for most rulers. You may think that we are much smarter then our ancestors of few hundred years ago but it is not the case. Many great and talanted people were famous for their indiscretions. And many that were not famous just were good enough to hide it!
Most qualified guys would not think of running for the presidency now for fear that their sins of youth would be aired or their private live would fall victim to the media.
While a president has some influence as a role model, it is definitely not in the same league as the sport or entertainment stars or fictional media characters.
Of course you may prefer some cowardly and indecisive, propriety-obsessed slack-jawed idiot to run our country as long as he is a good role model. Well, you have your vote...
