That's exactly what I meant when I said that agreeing to it would legitimize Ahmadinejad. Perhaps not the best course of action to empower him.

It's a win/win.

To his people, he gains face by making the challenge. He gains even more if it's unheeded.

Which is what exactly. All those that would think we're the great Satan think it already. All those that would hate Bush hate him already. Is he making a move on the entire region? Does he expect to win them all over with his eloquence?

So why should Bush allow him any credibility by deining to debate? Only fools in Iran would believe Bush didn't respond for fear of being bettered in a debate.

The debate is beside the point. Bush has nothing to win in any case.

It's about stature.

Agreed but a snub by Bush might not be a "win".

Let them debate.

At lunch break leave the mics on so we can hear them snicker together while they compare bank statements and measure who has got the most oil money in their bank.

"hmm Irani-man, say somthing daft on tv so the oil price rises will you?"

"Sure cowboy... and you just apear on tv with a pretzel and the the world holds ist breath while pump prices skyrockets"..

Iran pres wants to debate Bush?

Sounds familiar, flash back to 2004 Febuary:

Saddam challenges Bush to debate

Now, we know where that got Saddam, don't we? ;)
