Your first flightsim addiction?
« on: November 26, 2006, 10:57:00 PM »

I know, it's not a true "flightsim".  But for it's time it was the most awesome simulation a 13 yr old had ever seen.  I sunk alot of money into that one.

One of those little monoplane pedal cars.  Then Air Warrior.

I played that once and for whatever reason I wasnt able to find it again. I did manage to spend all my arcade money for the day on it.  As far as arcade games, I really loved Star Wars.

They have Red Baron over on tapco.com now.  As well as several other flying games.

My first flightsim addiction was MSFS II.

The very first? Tail Gunner, around 1979 I think. The "Red Baron" around 1980 or so.

Tail gunnner was a space based game and to me it looked like star wars. Red Baron was a bi-plane game......you flew against dirigibles (sp?) and ground targets. Both games have only very basic graphics, but that didn't matter.

No it sure didn't.  And I remember Tail Gunner, but, like you said it's a space game and not a flightsim so it didn't effect me like RB did.

i have never flown AW or WB.  this is my first computer based flight sim...played arcade stuff from time to time but never really an addiction.

ah has been an addiction.

almost downloaded and tried ww2 online...when they asked me for my credit card to start free trial i changed my mind.  glad i did.

before AH there was chess.  now its a bit of both.  rather not muddy that up.

The first was a chopper sim arcade game with great cartoon graphics. I wish I could remember the name. It had you flying thru New York City with your copilot yelling at you when to turn. That *&$#%(* never warned you early enough. I think I took out the Chrysler building about 40 times before I finally made that turn.

After that Aces over the Pacific, then I was turned on to the hardcore stuff... Air Warrior. Been an addict ever since.

actually, there was a game that came out that was a laser disc type...you flew through canyons that were taken from actual footage...laid some serious dough on that game in a hotel game room one weekend as a kid.

Anyone remember the Intelivision bi-plane game? This was around 1979.

This was my favorite console game. ( like there was a lot to choose from, lol) You could adjust the gravity settings and make the planes fly all crazy. It was chit, 2d graphics, but it was a lot of fun.
