Well, thanks.

That was our squadron's first foray into the Axis vs Allies arena as a group. A few of us have been in solo.

We generally are very picky about going into the AvA for several reasons.

Reason number one is we like to fly the P38 series. Not that we won't fly other stuff, we just don't get real excited about it.

Also, when the squadron leaders are on (me, savlan mostly) we tend to fly as a group. In an arena like AvA, a large group flying together can disturb the balance quite a bit.

So we will be visiting the AvA in the future but it will mostly be limited to periods when the P38 is available and we can find enough opposition.

CYA in the near future I hope.

Hope you guys like it. It will of course be my first setup. Looking back over the weeks I did not see the Italy terrain used for a while. It is a sweet terrain. I will post my setup Wed per the AVA staff rules. :)

Gumbeau the P-38G will be in there. ;)

I suspect you'll see P38s in the next set up hopefully starting of friday.  if there ever was a P38 theater it was the MTO.   let us know when you guys plan on being on we will look forward to giving you the opportunity to fly as a squad with an opposing squad in Axis Iron.

My squad will be on Friday night. I hope to make it, but my school has a function so I might not make it back in time for our squad night at 11 PM Eastern Friday night.

Anyway you can expect some Allied pilots flying by 10 PM Eastern and a mission come 11 PM Eastern.

missed this post earlier.  that would be great if every staffer took the extra time to post the following set ups on wednesday.  as suggestion it would be good if a permanent message were included in the MOTD explaing to the new player the concept of two chess pieces combating each other and the need to pick a country that may or may not be bishops. :aok

:lol Sounds like things are pretty much as they were before I took my leave of absence from AH. Greetings gents. Daddog, Oldman, Storch... Good to see you all still around. Will likely be flying again very soon and AvA will be the first place I go. P38s in the Med *drool*.  Haven't flown in quite a while though so take it easy on me while I shake the rust off. ;)

It'd be great to see the AvA grow into a viable, busy arena. I have to say that the times I've tried to like it, though, I end up being turned off by two things, over and over and over.

First, there are many who enjoy ganging more than they enjoy having people in the arena. Whether you call it "team play" or any other glossed over euphemism, the bottom line is that if YOU play in a way that keeps others from having fun, they will leave -- and you will be alone. Not good for you, and certainly not good for AvA.

Second, there is often as much nastiness and arrogance in the AvA as there ever was in the old, "unhealthy" MA. Kidding around is one thing, but when it goes to unpleasantness, you can't excpect people to hang around for more. Again, if you drive people away you will be alone. Not good for you, and certainly not good for AvA.

This has nothing to do with being thin or thick skinned. It's sportsmanship and, well, "positive game experience." There's no reason to expect others to put up with either verbal or gameplay abuse, and if you really want to see the arena succeed it would be well to keep that in mind.

What to do about it? Well, I'd suggest that if those who so love workinga s a team find their side overwhelming the other side -- they might consider sending a kette over to balance things out. Make it an intrasquad scrimmage -- and that way others can have fun too.

And, try to be good natured. IF you have a grinch like heart, then fake it -- or pretend you're doing an impression of Oldman!

During the times that I play in the AvA, I guess I just haven't seen the rampant ganging and poor sportsmanship.  Other than the occasional 8 year old team killer...it's been pretty much status quo.

Often we have the problem of even numbers on each side, but for some reason one side has fewer uppers.  Either they are afk, or in GV's somewhere...who knows.  Most of the time people swap sides or orbit out of the fight until there's a 'free badguy'.

Maybe I'm a glass is half full kinda guy but...I really don't see the AvA in that bad of shape.  I still find many challenging fights.

The current map is a little frustrating as the popular fields only have a few hundred yards of airspace that you can fight in without being acked to death by the other side...but all in all...lots of fun!

Republic -- had fun fighting ya couple weeks ago!

Never would say that things are always bad in AvA...had some fun times for sure. But its clear that others have run into lopsided ganging, and I've literally seen people come to LW after leaving the AvA type things like "That xxxx is such a jerk, I just had to leave the arena."

Most guys will eventually try AvA. Just like HT follows retention % for 2 week trials to see if there's a problem with the game, it'd be wise to think about what could drive people away from what could be a really great place to fight.
