Air Force-   Wartime movie starring John Garfield.  Story of the fictional B17C Mary Ann.  Great film of early B17s.  You've gotta suspend your disbelief as they fly into the Pearl Harbor attack, then head for the Phillipines  via Wake Island.  The Mary Ann has to belly in but somehow the crew builds her back to life and off she goes to spot a Japanese task force and call for help.

I just watched this two nights ago.  Yes, campy, but as you say, great footage of early B-17's, and I really admired that they made it in 1943, and I admired some of their models/sets they made.  Impressive for the time.  I liked it.

Thanks for the suggestion.  :aok

Yes "air force" is on top of a list of many fine old films, check out "a guy named joe" some great early 38 footage!   John Garfield is always entertaining in any film but those films are from another time and place so you kind of have to look at it from a different perspective.  Todays camp was hi drama back then. :D

So far, a lot of great hits (Battle of Britain, Flight of the Intruder) and some ridiculous misses (Iron Eagle, Top Gun) . . .

One yet to be mentioned:

I Wanted Wings – 1941

Awesome flying scenes. Filmed at Randolph AFB, Texas. Early B-17s.

Written by Bernie Lay, better known for his combat flying and writing of "12 O'Clock High"

The story is a bit of a stretch even for 1941.  The old hidden girl in the bomb bay trick! :)
