ron paul is beating him but only barely.

He is defeating most of the democrats that are running tho. His lefty message rings loud and true with the empty headed school kids and old bitter socialist queens.

Speaking of Reagan...

back in grade school we learned about voting, and what it meant. We did the weekly reader vote in the Reagan / Mondale election, and spent class time discussing the issues of the election, and what should help us decide who to vote for.

Knowing about the personal beliefs of the candidate, where the candidate stands on different issues, and things like that are what a voter should really base their vote on.

Sadly in the more recent years that is all out the window. I feel it started when Slick Willy played sax on Arseneo. It stopped being about the issues, and started being about "popularity" and "coolness".

if that isn't the direction this country seems to be heading I don't know where we are going.

Well, he's not violating the equal airtime, yet...by running on both Dem and Rep ballots he's covered that I think

At a minimum, it's a brilliant marketing campaign for his TV show. No matter what you think about him, it's sheer genius.

If he garners any measurable support in the primaries (3rd place in either), he's made the point that one or both of the parties (or our nation's political life) is a joke.

Well I think we all pretty much grew up and figured out they are pretty much lying about it all anyway. So the only thing left is a popularity contest.

Look at Bush for example.. He pandered to the Religious Right to get the votes claimed they were his base. What's he done for them? I can't think of too much.

I think he is trying to make a point. I for one am very sick of the same ole same ole promises of this and that and personal attacks on other candidates. I don't know, if he became serious about it, perhaps I would vote for him. He may not have experience, but who is to say that is a bad thing? He wouldn't follow the "Oh the Republicans proposed this bill so I'm going to disagree with it" tendancies seen in the House and Senate.

But maybe that is just my fatigue with politics speaking...

The great thing about SC is you can vote in both primaries. There were many-many Democrats who voted for McCain back in 2000 to try to keep from ahving to run against Bush.
