Post the p-38 that flew HEAD-LONG into the halifax, TOOK THE FIN OFF and wedged it into its leading edge outboard of one engine, and still managed to fly home and land safely.
I believe the halifax may have landed safely, too.
Oh how about the TBM almost broken in half with the tail bent upwards, missing part of a wing, and it still made it back to the fleet for a safe ditch & recovery.
Or how about countless B-17s missing almost entire vertical stabs, a P-47 missing one entire horizontal stab (ripped off at the vertical fin through and through) and many many other examples.
