"Shane" would be another for me. Read the book any number of times. Saw it on film and thought what is this? I know some consider it a classic film, but I couldn't stand it.
Corny at times, but loved the movie. Was in Jackson Hole a few years ago. Was driving past the Grand Tetons on the way to Yellowstone. Looked out the window and went "Holy Crap", this is where Stevens filmed
Shane. Weird how I never thought about it till that moment.
I think the hardest part for me with any book to movie, is I already have the character's in my head and rarely do the actors come close to what I imagined.
This is true for all of us. That's why almost all movie adaptations fall short in our eyes. Probably the best example I can give is
Lord Of The Rings. Studios avoided it for decades because they knew the hardcore fans would set the bar
really high. Only with killer CG, a great director, and a healthy budget did they feel thy could pull it off without being crucified. And I know plenty of people who
still gripe about it.
With me it was "Mr. Clark" in
Clear and Present Danger. Really like Willem Defoe, but as Mr. Clark?
NOT. In my mind, Mr Clark is either Tom Berenger or maybe a "pre-fat" Steven Segal. But that's just me. Someone else may see Willem Defoe, or maybe even Will Ferrell.
