Squadron Etiquette
« on: July 30, 2008, 10:31:37 AM »
I'm curious what the opinion is of everyone on etiquette when it comes to naming a squadron.  I have not been flying AH long, but feel fortunate to have hooked up with a good squad that has been around for a few years, Twinbooms 39th FS "Cobra in the Clouds".  Last night in Titanic Tuesday I noticed there is a new squad named 39th FS Pursuit Squadron.  Is this bad form?  Considering the 39th is based on an actual squadron that flew in WWII should there be more than 2?  Again, just looking for opinions.

I think it's just wrong to have two squads the same unless it is a branch of the original squad.  Besides, the person that started the squad was pointed out the fact that there was already a 39th FS....needless to say he didn't change.

You get a lot of no0bs that start playing and get all exited about starting their own squad.I like that my squad has been around from the days of AW,When i started the last thing i wanted was my own squad that has no history.I think it would be nice for people to have to have so much time in AH before allowed to start their own squads. But i see new squads come and go,so no worries they probably wont be around long

The thing about it is I don't think they are all a bunch of newbs.  Some of them have pretty good rankings.

I recognize the squads name.  Think they've been around for at least a few months.

If I were you, I would be thankful that they at least named their squadron with history in mind.  My beef is with the squadrons with more profane inspired names.  One comes to mind, but I won't name it here.

I think it's bad to name a squad close to another.
I also think it's bad to name a squad a non-historical name.

But we have many gamebox types on AH these days.

But aren't there plenty of historical squads not represented in Aces High?  I don't think it is a good idea to all but copy another squads name.  First of all, it will confuse the hell out of the UPS guy, the catering will get screwed up, and I've already received more blow up sheep in the mail than I care to count.

A good deal of research is always a good thing to consider before you make a historical squad.  As well as a little research into what squads are on the roster,

Not a blessed thing you can do if someone chooses to emulate the same historical squadron you are.

Class will tell in the long run, people will figure out which is which.
Unless the CO of the new squad really knows what he's doing chances are it will implode inside of a year.
