Salutes? LOL I wish not getting a salutes was my problem. Lately I get people calling me all sorts of names, not for killing them, but for not flying how they expect me to. You know, the high spit on your 6 with a friend or two in tow and they've already tried to HO you. Then they call you names because you won't turn fight the three of them in your 51. I'm not going to give them a fight... they can pound sand.

Personally, I am of the opinion that <S>'s are tossed around waaaaay too freely.

Recently, I was flying an A6M2.  I was fresh out of cannon rounds but still had some MG ammo.  I was attempting to break free from the fight to go back to the CV and re-arm/re-up.  Along came an F4F (maybe an F6F, can't recall).  He was pretty intent on shooting me down and I was pretty certain I wasn't going to get away from him very easily.  So...  I engaged him.

The fight lasted a few minutes.  He attempted to HO me at every chance.  Anytime I got behind him he stick stirred like there was no tomorrow.  About the time I was about out of the pebbles I had been tossing at him, he stalled a wing and augured into the water.

Few seconds later, here came a salute from him.

I chose not to return it because....

1)  I thought that his conduct had been high dweebery through the fight
2)  At no time had he ever really threatened me during the fight, which is sad because I'm not a very skilled pilot.
3)  If I had had a few cannon rounds, he probably wouldn't have lasted for more then two turns
4)  I wasn't terribly pleased with my performance either, unable to seal the deal with the MGs alone.

Nothing in the fight seemed <S> worthy to me.

Thank you very much, but I'll save my salutes for those special fights.  I see no reason to toss them out to every pilot that I come across.

It means more when it is reserved for special cases.

I'm reading this as less of a whine about not getting a S, and more of a comment of the state of the MA, and hope I'm correct in doing so.

You are correct and that's how it was meant.  While fundamentaly things haven't changed, there was a lot more sportsmanship in the old days.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

I'm not normally on 200 but when I am it's good to see a salute or two. I don't know what happened for that person to get one but it's better than seeing the smack talking that is usually on that channel.

In the DA I give and get a few but that's because I know who they were. In the MA, unless it was truly a good fight, I won't tune and  give a salute for a kill or if killed. Most of the players I shoot dn or get shot by I never heard of anyway.

Sorry if I ever missed one tho...just not tuned

A couple of times recently I was right in the middle of typing .s pilotname when the pm pops up: Im reporting your indistruktabal plain.

backspace backspace backspace ...

Bwahahahahahaaaaa!

Accusations of cheating are in fact the greatest salutes possible.

I should add, I've only ever gotten 1.
... missions were to be met by the commitment of alerted swarms of fighters, composed of Me 109's and Fw 190's, that were strategically based to protect industrial installations. The inferior capabilities of these fighters against the Mosquitoes made this a hopeless and uneconomical effort. 1.JD KTB

I like this reply!, to go further, you might would want to enocurage the opponent, ny telling him you would salute him when the fight is worthy or the opponent's flying is worthy of a salute.  and explain to him everything about the fight you just had that warranted no worthy salute

not do this in a hateful manner, but in a heya s0-n-so, can I offer you some insight or tips to help your gameplay excel :aok

I consider my ride a horse and myself with a sword.
If i am still on my horse and swinging my sword, i don't have time to give salutes.

If i kill you.  :salute
If you kill me.  :rock

I think its question of changing "values". To be candid there are times I don't return salutes or offer them. Sometimes it's frustration but a lot of the time its simply the reality that I didn't see anything worth saluting. I will always and I mean always acknowledge a good well flown 1 on 1 win or lose. However, a lot of the time I find myself on the "short end" of a progression of 1 on 1's...I had one over the weekend where I was in a Boston and had engaged a couple of cons on the way to an enemy base. When I got there there was a roughly co-alt hurricane and a lower F6F. I engaged the hurricane and kept an eye on the F6F. The fight with the hurricane was actually excellent and went for a good 7-10 minutes with the F6F circling at a distance...when I finally got the hurricanes 6 he came in and lit me up. I reversed him pretty good and a good 1 on 2 emerged with the F6F and the hurricane for about another 3-4 minutes till a C205 came screaming in and forced me to break and evade..and I dive and pull out...right into a F4U coming to the fight from the field who just lights me up right as I realize he's there.

Now I cant fault him in the sense that I was flying right at him (didnt know it)...but of course I get a salute from him.

Now I <S> the hurricane {by location and my plane etc}, asked who the F6F was, @#$# at him for bouncing the 1 on 1 AFTER staying out so long (bad form IMO) but then saluted him for the fun fight afterward...but not the hog...what was I saluting.

To a degree I think that this variable return of salutes from guys like me does lead to salutes not being offered, since they arent automatically returned or are sometimes ridiculed (rightly or wrongly). The other side is that most of us (if not all of us) dont return salutes we should because we missed them or are still @#@#$ at our selfs.

When I first signed up a couple of years ago it seemed like the <S> flew around like it was nothing.

I give them when I get a good fight and I'll throw one out to the friendly people on 200 whenever I see them. That's all there is to it.

You'd think that after holding your own in a Ki-61 against a P-51B, a P-51D and an La-7 for about five minutes you'de get a salute and a "nice fight".  I guess not.

I guess that was the old days.

I ALWAYS SEND OUT salutes after a good fight.....if there's time. if i'm in a furball, and need to get outta dodge, or onto the next target, i don't.

i got in a quick fight with crims the other day....and he had sent me one on 200, but i never saw it since i don't have 200 on anymore(sorry bout not returning it sir!)

but anyway, i wouldn't worry aboutg it.
