For accuracy's sake, I think Palin's position is that schools should teach curriculums that the PARENTS want them to teach... in this case, creationism alongside evolution.
I happen to agree that PARENTS should be able to customize curriculums for what the local majority feel is important. We shouldn't allow a liberal unionized centralized partisan federal institution to deny feedback and decision making on curriculums by parents.
No biology teacher of any worth is going to let a majority of parents tell him/her to teach creationism alongside evolution; they should quit their jobs rather than comply with such a mandate. If it's so important to parents to ruin the scientific education of their children, they can homeschool them.
There are constitutional protections against a local majority of parents customizing the curriculum at their local public school, e.g. no religion except as a study of demographics or cultural customs. That is how we protect minority rights, or better, the rights of the individual against the herd.
