Definately a fun night for the 353rd. We even got a tad bit of revenge on the 68th for last weeks cruiser tangle!

353rd was assigned CAP for A15 in A6M2's. We set up in a box search grid around 8-11-3 at 20k. At approx T+20, the 68th approached from the SE at approx 15k. After the bounce, we scored 3 kills to our one loss.  :salute to the 68th for not turning to fight and using your speed to get to the target. The attack appeared unsuccessful however, as only one building was left burning.

After the 68th cleared the area, 353rd provided CAP for our returning Ki-67's, and we re-armed as well. Timing of it was perfect, because this is when A19 got hit. 353rd began to rally when we saw the A19, A18 and the A16 start flashing indicating a sweeping southward attack.

Our initial bounce was peacemeal, we were still trying to rally when the B-24's approached A16 at 18k. We destroyed one B-24 and then began tangling with the escorts. Everything seemed fine for the moment and it even looked to have cleared out, when what appeared to be over 40 F4U's appeared out of no where. the VF and VMF guys literally stumbled onto the perfect bounce. We gave as good as we could. In the end though, we couldn't match the numbers.

Most excellent bounce guys. I have lots of film to study from it.

 :salute

That was VMF-251 with elements of VF-10 and Rolling Thunder. Some of us got held up over 19 by the CAP there so arrived late, but just in time to clear the guys you were on.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

<S> to the 353rd and 352nd.

Our order were changed a bit mid-week. Initially we were flying escort for the strike on C49, but it was then realized there was a danger A15 wouldn't be hit by T-60 so we were re-tasked with hitting A15 hard and fast, then sprinting north without engaging A15's cover to provide escort to the strike package hitting C49.

The strike on A15 was OK - a couple of our tail-enders got caught and had to engage but most of us were able to blow through and drop on the base. Unfortunately, it appears most of us were too busy concentrating on the defending zero's and our best egress routes rather than where our bombs were going. I personally missed fighter hanger two by a good 50 yards.

We met up with our bomber force just as they reached C49. At this point, we were a bit spread out by the attack at A15 and the need to get north quickly. We were also a bit low, which meant when the inevitable zero's appeared above us a very exciting couple of minutes ensued. Given our initial situation, we actually did not bad. As far as I could tell we killed more than we lost and certainly kept the bad guys busy. I've no idea how our buffs did - apart from one quick glimpse, I never saw them.

Having cleared the immediately visible zeroes, we tried to regroup and RTB to A9 rearm and refuel. Along the way, we were harassed by small groups of enemy and the constant skirmishes got us spread out again. However we were quickly learning that our P38's were a worthy adversary for the enemy machines. Our lead elements found A9 under heavy attack and whilst we able to hold our own in the air, losses were starting to accumulate. Fuel and ammo was also becoming a major issue. The constant stream of attackers made disengaging difficult and eventually we were forced to make risky attempts to land and rearm. We lost a lot of aircraft that way.

A few of us did make it to A10, but again got caught on the ground by the Muppets. I was 6 ft off the the runway when approaching zeroes were spotted and despite 68Raptor shouting at me to tower out and save my aircraft I made the fateful decision to do a touch and go thinking that with the help of the field ack I could hold off the two bad guys long enough to let some more of our guys get back in the air. Unfortunately, those two bad guys quickly became 4 or 5 and with a low slow P38, the inevitable coup-de-grace was quickly applied.

Fun frame, but where are the Japs breeding all these zeroes?  :D

I implemented a "special" breeding program for frame 2.  I stumbled on it accidentally when one of the Emperor's zeroes was parked for repairs.  Someone had let a flock of sheep into the repair yard and we initially tought nothing of it.  However, the next morning the sheep were all gone and the field was full of shiny new zeroes.  I quickly issued orders to round up all sheep on the island and put them into teh repair yard with the original zero.  Looks like it went well.  :noid

LOL , yeah I had the same thing happen to me. I got a pilot wound from Jennifer of FATE. I nursed my bird back to the A-10 area. The base was flashing and I should have ditched but decided to try and save the bird. I came into the area and didn't see a plane anywhere. So I decided to sneak in. As usual with a pilot wound I got a black out on final approach. As I come out of it I'm over the runway I attempt to set my bird down and start taking hits. My bird come apart and I managed a bail. I got Muppetized. :D

Actually I think the lurking around enemy bases picking off people trying to land is a sound tactic. Being a one life event every bird you take out won't be back for the night.

Well to be fair, it's not like we were lurking around waiting to kill off rtb planes. We had already been in two or so large large engagements. We were flying from sector to sector looking for anything to kill!

Last frame we fought 39's, 38's, both variant of hog, b24's, and I think an sbd or two.

It was alot of fun. However the japaness need to have thier forces limited to 15k or less. Getting jumped from 25k flying a P-39 didn't happen and it shouldn't here. That over give us unlimited number of 38'g and f4u's and allow us to get into the stratosphere.
