The black line is a marking used to identify where one is allowed to walk on the wing without damaging the structure.  Stenciling would be adjacent to the line instructing 'Walkway Inboard' (at the wing root) or 'Walkway Forward' (along the wing leading edge).

Gun and ammunition access panels were secured with camlock fasteners similar to the 'Dzus' fasteners that hold the cowling on a Cessna.  Screws were used on most of the fillet section that covered the area where the wing joined the fuselage.

Look here:

Stenciling.  The dashed lines around the cannon bay are non-standard but you can see the camlock fasteners.

 :D

One thing to keep in mind, I use 'standard' stenciling on my skins, there were always exceptions to the rule.  For example, a lot of RCAF Spits carried very little in the way of stenciling.  Photo references of the aircraft you are skinning is obviously the best way to go.

One other thing, the nationality markings on the wing would usually be painted on after the stencil line and would covering that portion of the line.

I should really finish things before starting others... story of my life.  Off for a couple days, maybe I'll get back at this one.

I have to say I've never been a fan of "prop holes" in the spinner. It just doesn't "fit" the way it's modeled in-game. I much prefer skins don't do this, because in screenshots and when it's spinning, it just doesn't look right. Only looks right when engine is off and looking at it from F3 mode.

Thanks for all your input Jacko, it was a great help!

Would you happen to have a close up shot of the camlock fasteners?

I'm not a fan of them either, at least as they are now.  I'm using someone else's template as a starting point, replacing the original layers with my own as I go.  The skin file has two spinner textures, one for engine off, and one for engine on.  I'm going to change the engine on version you see here to be more of a soft blur where the holes are.  This is something I wish AH did have, IMO it looks dumb having prop blades magically sprouting from a solid spinner when the engine off.

Guppy, the August 2008 issue of Aeroplane had a great write up on Terry Spencer, including a pic of MB882, which he was flying when he shot down Emil Lang's 190.  But of course you probably already know this.   ;)

Anyway, we now return you to your regularly scheduled, non-XII-hijacked thread  :D

Kazaa, the camlock fasteners look like a normal slotted screw head, slightly domed.  I need a scanner... The ones on the big ammo door just outboard of the cannon bay are slightly bigger diameter, about 16mm.  The ones on the other access panels are about 12mm.  This really won't be an issue until we have 2048x2048 skin files  :devil

IL2 doesn't have the Spitfire Mk.Vc but the Mk.Vb. would I be able to use this 1942, Spitfire Mk. Vc camo on a Mk.VIII just like this guy has done?

Guppy,

I'm just trying to line up some more Mk.VIII camos first, once the panel and rivet lines are done I should be able to get the ball rolling.

Please let me know if you have some pictures of Mk.VIII's with unique or interesting camo.  :D I’ll move onto the Mk. XVI after that as it really could use a few more.
