IL2 ballistics vary repeatedly at the whim of the developer, who has swapped lethality values around so much they have no credibility anymore.

There was a period where 50cals did little damage, and the community started screaming for more, so IL2 punched the lethality through the roof, and any hit would bring a target down, then folks started screaming the other way, and so they nerfed them back down again. They've done this with other calibers of weapons as well.

The game is totally arbitrary IMO, and the damage model is kinda messed up as a result. You can unload 1000 30 cal rounds into a target and not do anything but "put holes" in it. -- May disrupt lift, but frankly that's a poor substitute for a decent damage model.

Just to point out I'm not some HTC fanboi, I don't think HTC's is perfect, but Oleg's is as screwy as they come.

You can barely shoot it down with 8 303's in IL-2. The 303s make more holes in the wing. The craft falls out of the air because it loses lift rather than sawing through the wings.  :frown:

I saw an interview with some surviving 111 crewmen who said it was a tough plane, said it always brought us home no matter how shot up.  I reckon if you made it home you loved it, if you didn't you went down cursing its design and engineering.

I suppose .303s were not adequate for it except at 200 yards, but 6-8 .50s and cannon would be.

We most certainly do need an He-111 for the historical realm of this game. As has been mentioned before, the He-111 would also help fill a few gaps preventing some scenarios from being played or being played accurately.

If I recall correctly the HE-111 was the most produced German bomber of the war. I am surprised it was not in the game years ago. I would like to see it in here some day soon.

I'm suprised that the Ar.234 got in the game before it.

I don't believe it was the most produced. While it was more elegant than the later bombers, it took a MUCH larger number of parts, manhours, rivets, etc, to build than the Ju88 and other models that replaced it.

It was inefficient to build, I mean. That's why I don't think it was the most produced. I think the Ju88 and sub-variants might hold that for "most bombers made by Germany"

EDIT: If you don't quite understand what I mean, look at the curves. It took a lot more parts to make up a smooth curve, a lot more time to fashion/shape them, and a lot more folks to make them and get them onto the plane properly, whereas the Ju88 has a straight-walled (almost square) cross section along the tail and could be created with much less bending, folding, and less parts overall.

The JU-88 had just over 15000 produced. While 7300 HE-111s were built from 1935  to the end of the war by Germany. Spain built another 300 or so until the HE-111 was pulled out of Spanish service in 1965. At over 7600 HE-111s built it should have been in AH long ago.
