People love the late war planeset.  The funny thing is, in our effort to balance out the late war mania of the arenas, it's a period that seems under-represented in scenarios and FSO.  Battle of the Bulge would be awesome. :aok

Interesting...

So would this be the first Major AH GV scenario?

Let's see;

  • Watch on the Rhine [Ground]
  • Siege at Bastogne [Ground]
  • Operation Bodenplatte [Air]
  • Operation Northwind [Both]

All very cool. This should be a GVers treat.  :aok

Cheers...

Stalin's Fourth holds that claim.

However, a lot of folks weren't happy to sign up for planes to be shunted into GVs 2 of the 4 frames.

This is and always will be primarily a flight game. GVs don't work very well in most cases (they're shoe-horned into the game structure, bugs and flaws and all) and any scenario with primarily GV action is going to suffer on numbers, and on players that want to participate.

Bulge would include a LARGE air component, so it could be possible. However, I would strongly advise you put out of mind any scenario that is only ground-based.

Battle of the Bulge would be great, but it would depend, in my opinion, on having the right map for it. Is there one?

I know we have the Rhine map, but that's too far east, and I haven't seen any other winterized Euro maps. Bulge map would also specifically need denser forests than we now have, and having the right road layout would be critical for immersion in things like the Bastogne siege and the heavy Jabo phase of the battle once the skies cleared.

I personally wouldn't mind an all-GV first two frames with the final two frames being both air and GV. But I may be in the minority on that.

But overall, pretty please on the next scenario being Late War, either Western Europe or Russian front.

Actually, we HAVE (or at least, had) an ardennes terrain. It was very woody, with custom bases for St. Vith and Bastogne. I don't think it has been update, though.

Relax guys, its designed (relatively), has a terrain custom made for it (the one you are talking about) and only is waiting on the right combination of items to allow it to be ran.

Artillery could be used as well as most of the bases on the Ardennes08 map have shore batteries. Yes I know there shore batteries but it could be fun for the use of artillery.

Kuban might be a good option. Although the battle of Kursk involved more planes the airwar over the Kuban bridgehead signaled a shift in fortunes that the germans never recovered from. Interesting read from a german aces perspective. I'm curious in the "operation neptune" and/or similiar operations would make a good scenario.

HMS staff is working on something, but we are a long ways off.

We are trying to learn from problems (and overcome) from previous GV based events.

Krusty is correct for the most part, this is meant to be primarily a flight sim, but GV based events do have merit, granted there any many hurdles to jump.
