Whether they actually ARE the least dweebish to fly or not I think most "new" players will psychologically be drawn to the P51 and the Spit. Mainly because our North Ameican/Wesern European culture has built those 2 up to be the "saviors" of WWII : the Battle of Britain-Spit and the Strategic Air war over Germany-P51. Also they are pretty forgiving in flight for those who are new to this.

I agree the Spit is a great begginers plane because you can kill stuff sooner with less skill.
It Turns, It Climbs, It accelerates, Lethal gun package, good e retention and recovery, predictable at the stall with godd visibility. Anything goes
"The best close in fighter" (Johnnie Johnson) in the allied camp. (Not the 14 its virtually a new plane in its characteristics no where near as well balances as the others)
51 is no turner and that is where most start and the guns need more than a couple of hits.
