Either my rig went to crap in a month, or there i something up with these new versions. Track IR hangs, voice hangs. log into arena hangs.
Not much fun to play.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having these kinds of problems... however I'm not, so that kind of leads me to think there is something going on with your system and not AH.

So next I must ask... what are your intentions?

Are you quitting because of this and just wanting to troll us one last time?  In that case... I'm sorry to see you go but good luck in life!

Are you wanting help to correct these issues?  OK how about some more information then.  You can start with some system information (dxdiag), a description of your AH graphics settings, and maybe even perhaps a pingplotter chart...  I would have assumed by your post count that this should be obvious, but you know what happens when one assumes!

Or are you wanting something else?  Come on... we can't read your mind...

On the surface it sounds like resource issues.  Are you running with a large texture size and both shadow options enabled?

Well, I intend to fix it.
Skuzzy, I will look at those settings. You may be right, I had been playing on the 42 inch tv last time I played and when I started on Friday I was on my 22 inch and I had to mess with the video settings. I will tone everything down and see what that does. I did get a bit aggressive I think with the eye candy settings.
Flying last night and seeing the same kinds of things, I started wondering about Track IR. Cause it was locking down with regularity. But I will try the video settings first.

Hey Pongo,

Try to turn "other self-shadows" off. If that improves things greatly, your choice is to either step your self shadows setting down a notch and turn it back on, or just leave it off.
I went from 4096 Self Shadows, to 2048 Self Shadows with Other Self Shadows turned on, and that's with a 1GB video card.

Also, another thing that I noticed is that the game runs a LOT better if you don't use the "custom application" settings in nVidia's control panel. If you have Aces High set to override things like Anti-Alias setting and stuff, that doesn't seem to play nicely with AH all the time.

I turned off all shadows. most of the other candy too, that seems to have worked well. No issues, and there where plenty, joystick, track ir, full crashes.
Thanks for the help all.
Ill be back in another 10 years with another question.

Shoot me a DXDIAG output and I will be happy to make some recommendations on game settings.  Running out of resources causes all manner of bad things to happen in the game.

Well.
Turned off shadows and some other stuff.
The problems lessened but did not totally go away. Voice channel was still repeating and locking up for short periods. The last idiot to speak on voice would repeat about 30 times, the plane locked up the whole time.
So I left AH to look at the dx diagnositcs.
and my mouse was locking up on the desktop..
Little hangs right in windows. I was looking at direct X diagnostics. and the mouse would lock up.
hmmm HT is evil, but he cant kill my windows desktop.
So I ripped the case open, its a big cooler master HAF case with big fans all over it. I had been dusting it out pretty regularly. But I unplugged everything from the back and took a good look.
The fan intake on my Gforce 285 was jammed solid with floor fuzz.
That cant be good.
Cleaned it up, plugged a dozen usb things back in. Booted up the game and golden.
I think it was getting just slowly worse and that made the PC flakey. Too much dwarf fortress.
So thanks for the help, looks like I am good again.
