This has wandered off topic.  To address the original posters issue.

I have no idea what would happen to a WW2 plane if it landed at 120+ MPH as I have never been in one nor flown one in real life.

The choice made in game is to help prevent gaming the game by requiring everyone to land at reasonably safe air speeds.  By doing this it prevents people from plowing in without paying any attention at all to landing correctly.  It adds to the challenge of landing a sortie and makes that "name in lights" mean just a little bit more.

There's no "LANDING" in AH....

Is there?

Does anyone go to the TA and try to learn the very basics of this game anymore? Am I the only one that sought out a trainer, read the literature, practiced gunnery, and worked on taking off and landing?

When missing landing gear, the way the plane lands at super low speeds is not realistic at all. For some reason you can be going 120, tap the plane really softly and you die instantly  :huh . I've seen crashes without the landing gear in the war and now and it doesn't blow the plane up from a tiny tap on the ground.  Plz fix it HTC
If you don't mind me asking, what realistic experience do you have sir. Also, what war were you in where you witnessed several crash landings? Or are you referring to a John Wayne movie you seen on TMC?

WWII of course, crashes of pilots coming in to fast on a cv landing and/or runway without gear, all you see is broken propeller, maybe wing damage, not an explosion from hitting the ground hard. I have never seen a plane blow up from hitting the bottom of it on the ground before, don't even know if it's possible to do that. That's the realistic I'm talking about

I have no trouble belly landing at will.  Have you considered the fact that either your speed or rate of descent may be too high?

And so it happens in Ah too. I am frequently doing "combat landings" on bases under attack to avoid vulchers. No problems at all. But of course you can't expect to love, if you are slamming your plane on the ground at 120 mph with a vertical speed component thats getting too high...

How can you ask for realism when you don't know what is real or not?  Your only basis to measure realism is what you perceive to be 'realistic' and not what truly was realistic.

For example, you decry planes catching on fire during a hard landing as unrealistic because in your own words you don't think it's possible for it to happen.

Here is a picture of a passenger jet airliner that caught fire after a hard landing.

Here is a picture of a Hellcat on fire after a hard landing on a CV

B-29 after it exploded and burned during a crash landing after a mission

B-26 burns in a field after forced to ditch short of the airfield

ground crews spray foam on a B-24s engines that started to catch fire after the Liberator came in for a hard belly landing.

Another B-29 that exploded and burned while crash landing after an aborted mission

What are you on about AKAK? Where are the pics of broken wheels, where are the pics of bent propellors with Ben Afleck leaning against the fuselage smoking a cuban?

Wow, already knew that they can catch on fire, thx for telling me that, your only the 500th person to tell me over and over. If you didn't see, I said "BLOW UP" on impact on the runway, not catch on fire. Films of it work a bit better than pics.

In game, your plane simply "blows up" if your pilot is killed. And your pilot will be killed, if you slam your plane on the ground too hard. And again, level airspeed is only part of the equation.

Way to "Help" and "Train" this recruit. I have this feeling that some of you have forgotten that this is NOT the general forums or O'club.

That is all I wanted to say, I'm sure the OP's question was answered somewhere in this mess of a thread.

This thread has been moved here. All those replies you are probably referring to were made while it was not in the H&T forum.
