How does Pike taste?  I've always wanted to try it but living in the south, never had the opportunity.

Ammo its a very light tasting fish. The nice crisp batter really worked with how mellow the fish was.  We fried it covered in a corn meal batter using cast iron over a propane burner. Delicious!  :rock   I'm not sure of the batter recipe because it was "secret".
The rules are simple:  Don't be a dick.

We drove up to www.pineclifflodge.com which is on Big Sandy Lake just north of Dryden, Ontario. Long damn drive from Texas! We fished for five days and caught some many pike that I lost count.  This was my first experience pike fishing. The pictures below were 31 to 34 1/2 inches long.  The ole lady caught the small mouth and it measured 15 1/2 inches.

Cool pic's .

Properly cleaned and cooked I dare anyone to tell it from walleye or Perch. Small Pike is a great tasting fish. Many years ago I used to go to the same lake in MN. and was one of the first to troll with Planer boards. Well I used to catch limits of Pike as well as 'eyes and would give the Pike to the resort owner for our Fri. night fish fry. Many a time I was told by another angler, eating a plateful, "thanks for contributing the walleyes".

Just finished a "Cast for Kids" event - fun day taking special needs kids fishing - caught a few stripers, had an awesome day. Ended up with 2 volunteers on my boat due to running out of kids, or having too many boats for the day.

One of my crew had never fished before, watching him fight a 2 pound striper on light gear was cool, and the other had fished before, but never from a boat. There were a lot of skunks being handed out, so felt pretty good landing a couple when others hadn't.

Awesome day, lots of laughs, lots of fun. Next one will hopefully be a wounded warrior event on Perris (early next year).

Only got to fish for 3 hours or so, due to the slow start to the day, marked some fish on thurs/fri - hoping they would be there for the saturday - took ours on free lined anchovies, as the fish wouldn't take it on a drop shot - snipped the weight off, good to go, let it drop down real slow under its own weight, and bam, 2 fish in the last 15 mins. Got lucky really, but hey, I'll take it.

Very cool Wurz!  :salute

Heading out bass  fishing myself this morning.  It's 40 degrees out there though. Where did summer go?  Actually I don't think it was ever here this year.   :(

Nice pics Tec.  :aok

Bug, how'd you get on fella?

Well pretty much froze my arse for the first 2-3 hours.  I shudder to think that in about 2 months I'll think 40 degrees sounds "warm".   :)

Fishing was slow, couldn't find 'em. Was a little bit of excitement when I caught a pretty good size pike and couldn't find the pliers to get my crankbait out.  But luckily he was angry enough to throw the hook, while I searched the boat.  Other than that only got two bass and they were both small.   :cry

The cool thing of the day happened just shortly after we arrived at the first spot.  We noticed what we thought was a group of ducks or geese swimming with their arses up, like they were feeding, but cruising fast.

Turns out as they get closer, was foggy so hard to see, they weren't birds at all.  But a group of 5 whitetail deer out for a swim.   :O

We watched them swim out past the middle of the lake and assumed they were just taking the shortcut to get to the other side of the lake.  But then 20-25 mins later they show up again and head for the shore where we first spotted them.  They got out, crossed the road and took off.  Seems they were just going for a swim.   :)

I've heard of people finding deer swimming before, even out on Lake Ontario, but I've never witnessed it before.  They were swimming pretty damn good too.  Hell of a lot faster than I could.

Very cool Bug. That is why fishing is not about how many fish you catch!

Had a great trip up to Lake Vermillion MN. Caught some good weather so late in the season, the last day was the first of 3 days of really stable south wind and I wish we could have stayed longer. Lots of walleye tho most were small or to big and we didnt want to kill them, "actually you cant keep a slot fish". My brother caught a big northern that we threw back. Tied into some really fat perch and came back with some nice fish for a fry or two.

Mid Lake reefs were best and only a few boats were out. I lost two BIG walleye, the fish were just sucking on the baits and you had to give them a minute of free line before hooking them. I'd have just thrown them back anyway but it would have been nice to see them.

Sunset on a Lake in the north country. It just doesnt get any better. Vermillion is an excellent lake.

Nice pics Bug.  I have seen that once on Lake Martin in Alabama.  Just one little buck in felt crossing a slough.  We didn't get to close -  he was already upset with us and snorting.  Very cool.
