What are you fishing for? That is all it depends on. Crappie and panfish need 1-6lb test. Bass require 8-15lb test. Walleye and sauger I've heard need a lighter tackle so maybe 8lb? Catfish and drum require at least 20lb mono. Carp I would say at least 20 lb. That is just a guess though, if you can tell us how big and what kind of fish you want to catch, we can help you much more.
Landing is overrated.

I'm not fishing saltwater till may of next year  :(, but I mainly fish trout, bass, carp with the rods I'm putting line on. I'm re-lining three other poles sometime in the next month for catfishing, wonder how my saltwater poles will do.  :t

An uncommonly fished species. Google only brought up two hits when I typed it in...

I use 10 lb test mono on all our rods (we fish bass, trout, catfish) and have never had an issue with it that wasn't caused by me.  I have 2 extra spools with 30 lb braid that the wife and I use when we fish for bigger stuff on the lake like stripers but we haven't caught any yet so couldn't say how well it works.

Had a great day yesterday.  Started walking down the river at 1300 with my little orange/white Kastmaster lure.  Went downstream about 1 mile and quit at 1800.  Caught (as in had to handle to unhook) 1 large bluegill and 22 small mouth bass!  Most in the 7-9 inch range, typical shallow river bass, but 2 that were 12 inches and 1 that was 14.5 inch.  Lost 5 others including one that was big enough to snap my line and take that great lure :(  My fault for not checking the line often with all the work it was getting.

Man, she needs to tone those floats.  They're gonna hit her knees in 5 years or less. I prefer smaller bobbers.

The rest is prime casting area though.

Catch enough fish for 400 people?  Do they not have possession limits where you fish?

Spikes, when you say Yamamoto's are any of them Senkos?  If so Texas rig and fish without a weight.

Yes, we do have possession limits, but I also have two guys as back-up and we're not catching all the fish in one day. We WILL take them home and clean them, then it will be legal to harvest more.

That's your daily bag limit.  Possession limit refers to total fish, on your person + in your freezer.

That is cheating , lol . I do the same thing, lol . One good thing about living by the lake . There is a possession limit but not at your home in MS on fish .
I'm going to flame now : On Possession limit's , The lake I fish is a flood control lake . The state put a creel limit of 20 Crappie that has to be over 12 inch's . Now come on , this is a FLOOD control lake and it is drained down every year . So why is there a creel limit on a lake that get's all the water sucked out each year . The game warden's are pure red neck's here too but all I can say is catch me if you can ....and you can't ..not in my own stomping ground's . Why , because I seen those game warden's give a 90 year old man a ticket for a fish that was 1/8 under the limit size and then through the man's fish back . That would have been when I would have tore the ticket up and said WHAT FISH ? I don't like them and I'm sure they don't like me because I'm just as much red neck as they are , with training .
