Strange inopportune screen hangs
« on: October 05, 2010, 04:28:08 AM »
Recently, as of the latest patch, sometimes when in a fight with many cons, the screen will occasionally hang for half a second or so, causing all sorts of challenges when flying (and I'm sure causing me to warp to my opponents too). Has anyone else been experiencing this?

I would normally file a bug, but I'm not sure it's a bug in the game... interested if others are experiencing it before I file something.

Thanks

Same here. Thought I was going to disco twice. After a sec or 2,  it just came out of it.

I have noticed the "hang" the very first time I press the ALT + R keys to start the recorder.  It hangs the screen for just a second or so.

Try cleaning out your AH2 folder of old films - put them somewhere else.  What happens (especially with screenshots) is when you take one, the program needs to scan your folder for existing files to determine what name/number is available for the new file.  AHSS001, AHSS002, etc.

Hi Traveler and friends.

Hangs, when pressing Alt+R(to star AH film recording), usually is caused by too many films in AH films folder.

If you want to keep those films, I suggest you create a folder AH Backups anywhere and under that create FILMS_01, FILMS_02, etc folders under that one.

From time to time, move all your films from AH films folder to those folders, keeping number of files low in AH films folder.

that's not the issue, my folder is empty.  I empty it after I review the files.    But I only noticed the issue, it's an issue, not a problem because I just do an ALT + R in the hanger and it hanges for a bit, perhaps a second, and is not a problem after that.  No matter how many times I ALT + R.  So it doesn't happen to me in flight.

I only noticed it after change to the new field layouts.

I've had this happen lately too.  Just cruising along on auto pilot, and when I make a move to look under or behind myself, the screen pauses for a second or two.

Roger that same here. Also had my screen hanging when I released my vox transmit buttons. I switched my headset from a usb port to the mini-jack on my computer and that seemed to help but still get the pause (not long enough to effect  the framerate counter) when looking out of the side of my cockpit and banking.

I get it too.  I hear a like a beep sound and the screen will freeze for half a second or less.  Then normal for 30 seconds to a minute and then again.  It happens even if there is no other traffic around

Two questions...does it happen in offline mode, especially flying low...and are you using an Nvidia GeForce graphics card?

Havent' tested the first, but yes, I have an Nvidia Gforce GX275. When I get home, I'll check and see if the driver is crashing and windows is reloading the driver. I have the latest x64 vista/7 (258.96) driver though... IF it is a driver issue, maybe if HTC can isolate the issue, maybe with some sample code, etc..., the issue can be filed with NVIDIA if its a driver issue.
