If it isn't the Pacer, it has to be the Chevy Vega,,what a piece of ,,,,,,,,yech

The Vega had a very nice chassis, with superior handing in its day. It was undone by its unsleeved aluminum engine. The Cosworth Vega showed the rightness of the chassis when powered by a good motor.

That said, for completely unrelated reasons, I will never buy another Ford.

My Toyota has been quite reliable, my Fords, not so much, thank you.

I guess some people have different luck with different makes.  Every GM product my family has ever owned has broken down (and a LOT of transmission trouble).  Since '01 we've owned nothing but Fords.  Other than a tree falling on my dad going down the highway, none of them have been towed or needed to be taken to get worked on.

I drive an 03 F-150 4WD that we've had since 03 (bought it used), and I've never had to replace anything on it.

Pinto also had a flaw that made it prone to popping into reverse....

not necessarily true. i know of a 1999 ford e-350 that went nearly 10 years(although no more than about 19k miles) without an oil change. we fired the person responsible for that vehicle too.

When it comes time to replace my 2001 Tundra, I expect to be getting another Tundra.

That said, when somebody asks me what kind of pickup I recommend, I tell them to get a Ford or Toyota.  I've owned a Nissan 2WD, the Chevy buses at my last job blew their transmissions so often each one cost us three times what our Fords cost us in maintainance.  None of the Dodges I've been around have done well.

So, Ford or Toyota.  I just won't be buying a Ford, but I acknowledge that they make good trucks.

.....or the Dodge's from 1989-1997 that "left Park and rolled away"?

I've had 6 Ford trucks/cars and not a major problem.

The Pinto 'Fire Ball', it had an unprotected gas tank (as in it was just beneath the metal siding) and if you got rear ended- KA-BOOM!

I really enjoyed my '76 GT with 5 speed.  Mine was undone by a Crown Vic T-Bone.   :cry

Nothing to do with the stats, I just HATE seeing these things. Don't know why, but I despise them.

I saw a TON of El Caminos growing up in the 80s, and they ALWAYS annoyed the hell out of me. Is it a car? Is it a pickup truck?! I DON'T KNOW! MAKE UP YOUR MIND!!!

Had a PT Cruiser with a turbo-charged SRT-4 motor in it.  Best sleeper car I ever owned.

Ford is the undisputed king of vehicles that would not stay in park. I forgot how much they lost in lawsuits due to people being run over by Fords they put in "Park" and got out of. Ford even had to give aftermarket repair shops the same decal they had to install in all of their cars that were recalled for the problem. We had a box in the office at the transmission shop that had 5K of the decals in it. It wasn't just one transmission, either, the C-4, the C-6, and the FMX all three did it, constantly. They all ended up with a black and silver metal foil decal installed reminding anyone who drove it to set the parking brake anytime the vehicle was left unattended.

Funny you mentioned it. Had a woman with Hyundai minivan complaining about ticking noise  Found out she never changed oil since she bought it,  33000 thousand miles ago:)

Gotta say I owned a 74 Vega,,,and lived. The wind from even a medium truck would blow the thing off the road. Turning was an exercise in futility at any speed above 40 and taking a trip more than say, 30 minutes would leave me drained and sore (at the age of 18). If it weren't for the fact that the engine gave out at a very early stage I may well have driven that car long enough to die in it.

On the flip side, I could change out a sparkplug during a traffic stop without missing the light. Out of necessity came excellence! Usual distance to sparkplug changout.....15 miles. Rarely did I need to change more than one or two at a single stop.
Yea, simply because I can
