Sure it would.  A lot of good sticks would end up only in jets as the second they got spotted, folks would run.  They'd need a jet just to keep up and get a kill now and then.

And folks like myself would die even more as my name would scream 'easy kill!"

correct, in Fighter ace people would run the moment they saw somone whos name they feared, to the point that the good sticks would go weeks without dieing (do to the fact no one but noobs fighting them)

In WW2 they had player names at 6k in bright red :old:

In WW2 a plane wasn't a dot at 6k (yards?).

I don't care who I'm fighting against. But I'd sure the heck like to know who the friendlies are in shore batteries.. You know, the ones who just camp it out, not firing as the CV racks the base.

Heres how it would work:

Known aces get many fewer kills

upper-average and high-skill but unknown players reamin relativly unaffected

Noobs get slaughtered even more than they do now

tank-ace unless everybody remmembers a couple of hundred players i the top skill rank, you cant tell the noobs from the og's.  except for a few players and even then you remember the names but not the skill and even more you would have to remember which plane they're good in and which one they suck.

This, and the fact if they see bruv119 for example they would either run away or a mass group of people may be hunting him down

For quite a while in Fighter Ace, not only did we know who we were engaging, but we also had a good idea how many kills said pilot had "under his belt" because for every 5 kills the "ace" achieved he would carry around a * following his name...   So Joach1m nailed it....   it would be a "hunt fest" that basically necessitated the "Ace" would have to have several guys covering his six.   Just imagine seeing.....      DrBone****    (basically meaning he had achieved 20+ kills without being shot down)  and how the enemy's eyes would light up with visions of being the one to knock down such a nemesis.

In WW2 they had player names at 6k in bright red :old:

This actually does have historical similarities when you think of Erich Hartmann's 109's Black Tulip paint job or Manfred Von Richthofen's Red Dr1 letting the enemy know they were about to engage in battle... provided they saw them coming at all.

In the case of Hartmann, both of Joach1m's arguments manifested themselves.  Once it became common knowledge who was piloting the 109 with the Black Tulip nose... the pace of Hartmann's kills slowed and did not pick back up until he reverted back to a more generic paint job.  While the rank and file soviet fighter pilot avoided combat with who they knew to be Hartmann, the Guards Fighter Regiment (soviet top guns) were dispatched to rid the skies of the dreaded Black Tulip nosed 109 and very nearly succeeded on one particular occasion.

I think this would work if it was an option for the pilot to choose.  If you want your name displayed to the enemies set it in preferences.  Might be kinda fun.  Might be kinda fun to go on a patrol with your squad letting all the enemies "know" whom is doing a sweep.

Now this would be nice.  :aok

I would love to put my name out there, if it attracts the noobs, ok, if it attracts the veterans, even better.

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.
